Protecting your job in Tennessee has nothing to do with guns. This is an “Employment at will “ state. They don’t have to give you or anyone else a reason unless they are disputing your unemployment claim, or unless you have an employment contract.

Pulling up to a busy 4-way stop in a Police car is also funny.

gauging interest on stippling and other grip mods

Well… reminds me of an old guy that I stopped for speeding. He had never had a driver’s license…. ever. So he had to go to HQ to post a cash bond on the ticket. I’m making small talk while we are waiting around for the desk clerk to do the paperwork. I ask why he never got a driver’s license. He replied “I never needed one until now.†-
If I had a clear shot at an active shooter; I would probably take it. If the cops have him pinned down, I would not. If I saw a cop pinned down I would help him. Of course common sense and the situation apply. If at all possible I would be trying to verbally communicate with the cops. I would not put myself in a position to be shot by the cops. Keep in mind most cops have never been shot at, they won’t be calm and cool. It’s a good thing to run through these types of scenarios in your head so you can decide what would be stupid and what would not.

What happens, medical condition with a CCW
DaveTN replied to runco's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I’m sure every department has their own policies, but when I was a cop if we were towing a car from an accident scene and guns or valuable property was in it; we tagged it as “Personal Property†and placed it in evidence. The owner could then come and claim it. I was never sent to the hospital to recover anything, so I assume they deal with the family. When Officers were hurt their firearms were turned over to either family members or other Officers at the hospital. Paramedics will disarm you as soon as they see a gun. I would guess they treat it the same way they treat your other personal property. However, if they don’t want to try to clear it they would probably just hand it to a cop the scene; they have more important things to deal with. Theft is always a possibility at an accident scene, just as it is anywhere else. -

Look up the licensing statues and not the definitions. The first two paragraphs both start with the words “Each person intending to engage in businessâ€. My point was in addressing Trekbikes question is that intent to engage in a business is an element. He isn’t going to be charged for changing sights or a set of grips. -
Now it’s running guns to the cartels? Amazing.

I guess he felt the need since the former President of Mexico was invited here to rip on Arizona’s crack down on illegal immigrants and to tell Congress they need to stop the flow of guns into Mexico.

My Comcast internet and TV both rock. But I pay a high price for it. That is what happens when the government protects companies from competition.

29% Think Armed Revolution Needed
DaveTN replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
An armed revolution would probably be the end of America if it was big enough to cause any real damage. When it was over and the rebels were dead or in prison, it would also be the end of the Constitution; it would be rewritten from scratch by a new group of “Founding Fathers. That poll is ridiculous. Where did they find those 800 people, in prison? Very few people give any real thought to what would happen. Sure it’s good hype to get people all riled up; but no one is going to participate. We have a way to get people out of office and it isn’t killing them. They are there because they were voted in. Instead of flapping non-sense about a revolution that never is going to happen; step up and run for office. I would do it, but I’m a hard line conservative republican that would bring jobs back to this country; so I already know I would lose. -
Cop pulls gun on person 'holding up' McDonald's line
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I could be wrong, but I think all that happened. Apparently he was on paid leave while the investigation was going on; then he was arrested, jailed, and charged with felony aggravated assault. So far I have seen nothing to indicate this case was handled any differently that if the guy called the cops and said you pointed a gun at him. -

Those laws use the wording “intending to engage in businessâ€. -
Usually when I have to maneuver around a vehicle, it’s not an old person; it’s some azzhat talking on a cell phone. Are they trying to be an azz? No, they are completely oblivious to what’s going on around them. Every once in a while someone will ask “Do you ever miss being a cop?†My response is “Only when I’m driving.â€

The Tennessee Constitution conflicts with the 2nd amendment. That makes it a States Rights issue. Who wins when that happens? Well, unless the Federal government wants to take over law enforcement in the state; the state does. I think the recent SCOTUS decisions did a good job in maintaining a balance. They could not rule that everyone can slap on a gun and walk down the street. The states would not stand for it, not even Tennessee. They also didn’t want to rule it was not an individual right, if they did it would open the door for some states to totally ban gun ownership. Everyone has an opinion on the 2nd amendment; and they are free to do whatever they are ready to take responsibility for. I thought I had a 2nd amendment right to carry a gun; I was wrong, they threw me in jail. Same as they do to people every day in this state. I know with absolute certainty that the 2nd amendment will not be recognized in a courtroom if you are in violation of state law; therefore it isn’t a right.

Then don't worry about Texas law, jut abide by Tennessee law 55-8-115. If you aren’t moving faster than the flow of traffic; move over.

They were popular in the 80’s for range or target guns. They aren’t good for carry guns because on some guns they extend too close to the edges of the trigger guard. They can also work themselves off if not properly installed. They don’t make the trigger any smoother they just increase the surface area of the trigger.

Cop pulls gun on person 'holding up' McDonald's line

I doubt he will be a cop anymore; he has been arrested for felony aggravated assault. You would lose $20. -

He may be fired and go to jail. Do you think the incident should be investigated, or just throw him in jail on the word of the kid? -
Murfreesboro Police gun buyback this Saturday
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I have no idea whether it’s true or not, but MTSU only has 30 cops. I doubt they deal directly with any of the manufacturers. Distributors would want guns (other than the junk). -
I think most of us know the law, but I wouldn’t sell to you unless I knew you. With me it’s not really about the law. I don’t want some pizzed off parents calling me and wanting to know why I sold their kid a gun. The other reason is liability if something went bad. Federal law prohibits a licensed gun dealer from selling to you. A jury in a civil trial wouldn’t think much of a defendant that sold a gun to someone a gun dealer can’t even sell to. That could impact punitive damages. In a year you will be able to buy more gun than you have money for, and that will last the rest of your life.

I don’t claim to be an expert on the laws of all 50 states, but I’m pretty comfortable with my own interpretation of the use of deadly force that I think would protect me from a criminal conviction in all 50 states. If me, or someone around me is in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm; the use of deadly force is justified. While I (as a citizen) would not have fired on him I think the argument could be made that the immediate threat of death or great bodily harm was still in play with the perpetrator of a violent felony running with a gun in his hand. I wouldn’t want to have to go to trial to make that argument; but I don’t think a jury would convict. If I was a cop I would have shot him dead just like the manager did and no one but the usual suspects that always question a cop shooting would have said anything about it. Everyone in the area was in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm when the manager shot him. As far as who fired first; unless the news story are wrong the Manager said he fired his weapon first.

Looking at those pictures, it would take a fortune to repair it.

And you think a TSA agent in TX should know that? If you had a passport and a DL, and you handed him a gun permit; I don’t see the “principal" issue in that. I’m not knocking what you did, I may have done the same thing if I was bored just for the entertainment value. Made for good forum story.

This shouldn’t be a game with one side having to play by the rules and the other side doesn’t; unfortunately it is. As a Police Officer if I saw a man threatening someone with gun in an armed robbery, unless he surrendered and put down his weapon I could kill him. If he ran I could kill him and it would be justified by saying that he presented an immediate danger to the public if he escaped. I also had qualified immunity from civil action that as I citizen I do not have. I applaud the DA for not charging the guy. But I wouldn’t take that as an indicator of what other prosecutors would do. Many states use to allow the use of deadly force on “Fleeing Forcible Felonsâ€. Armed robbery is a violent forcible felony. I’m not sure many do anymore. I hope this is over; it was a good outcome. But I would bet that right now some dirtbag attorney is seeking out the family so he can represent them in a lawsuit.

Here’s the list of what they accept. I guess you could make the argument that it’s “Drivers Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)†But I doubt most TSA agents would change their mind. Could be a gun hater that just saw the opportunity to mess with you. http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/acceptable-ids I carry a U.S. Passport when I travel; its accepted anywhere ID is required.
