  1. I’m confused. You think he’s guilty but a not guilty verdict will be justice?
  2. You mean zero evidence besides Zimmerman saying it and it being on the 911 call?
  3. Was Zimmerman’s medical report not done the next day? Wasn’t there an autopsy report that showed no DNA from Zimmerman under Martins nails and no blood on his sleeves or cuffs?
  4. I’ll play….. Because you can’t provoke the attacker or be engaged in criminal behavior.
  5. Many statements have been made implying that those of us that think Zimmerman acted reckless and is responsible for Martins death are saying so because of race. I can be color blind to this issue. I can’t get past the fact that Zimmerman bailed out of his truck and started chasing a kid that had done nothing wrong. I don’t care if Martin was kicking his ass; Zimmerman created that situation with his recklessness. Martin could have been scared to death, we don’t know we can’t ask him; Zimmerman killed him.   If someone jumps out and starts running at you and you pull a gun because you are in fear of death or great bodily harm, and they see your gun and pull theirs and kill you; they don’t get to walk free by saying you had a gun and they were justified. They will go to prison for murdering you in an unprovoked attack.
  6. No, I have spent too much time in the courtroom to believe Justice is served there. I have already said I think it will be a hung jury; I don’t think you can 12 people to agree on this case. Should the state decide not to retry the case; I’m fine with that. I just wanted to see this go to trial; this man murdered a kid that was doing nothing wrong except maybe defending himself from a nutcase. If a jury puts their stamp of approval on that I’m okay with it.   This case isn’t about Zimmerman and it isn’t about race. It’s about some folks thinking that if Zimmerman is convicted they will somehow be losing some level of self-defense; I think that’s laughable. Others are making it about race because of the racists who rushed to Florida. If this guy murdered my son I would take all the help I could get to get the killer to court. If that meant getting Jesse Jackson here; so be it. (I don’t think Jesse would help a white guy, but you never know)   I doubt it’s over with a verdict. A hit was put out on Zimmerman publically and all involved law enforcement that had jurisdiction stood silently by and watched it happen while doing nothing. Shame on them.   Zimmerman can’t lead a normal life regardless of the verdict; he’s a target.
  7. People saw an injustice taking place and they complained to their elected officials. Just because those people happened to be black doesn’t make this a race issue. It’s now in the hands of a jury to decide if justice will be served.
  8. Don’t know, but the housing complex settled a lawsuit with Martins family that is rumored to be over a million dollars. My guess would be they have some real security there now.
  9. A store owner in Nashville ran outside and started shooting at a car after he was robbed. Two Police Officers were walking out of a restaurant and yelled at him to stop; he didn’t and they killed him.   Situational awareness; lose sight of it and it can cost you your life.   No one is taking sides with the thieves; but killing an innocent bystander or ending up in prison isn’t protecting your family.   What if one of us was walking in front of that store when this nutcase pulls a gun and starts cranking off rounds? If I have nowhere to take cover; I’m engaging the shooter.  If he starts to turn that gun towards me; one of us is probably going to die. Over what? Over property of a store that probably has a store policy that doesn’t even allow them to chase after a shoplifter?   This guy has no business carrying a gun; he can’t think fast enough. If he had the mental ability to process the situation; a shot would not have been fired. I doubt he did it intentionally; it was a real life test and he failed.   This isn’t a video game or a TV show; know the laws and the rules or quit carrying before you get someone killed.
  10. I wonder what the legal requirements are for a new state breaking away from an established one; or if it can even be done, since it never has?   I know downstate Illinois has talked about making Chicago its own state all my life.
  11. I can’t believe it was 65 ignorant people that didn’t know the gun was there. Either they were willing to risk the very high probability of arrest and convictions on weapons charges; or they had other intentions.
  12. I don’t see how the federal government can justify violating the rights of innocent Americans who are no threat to this country when the courts routinely let criminals go because they claim their rights were violated when they were arrested? Criminals who are clearly a threat to the wellbeing of those around them.
  13. What good would creating new borders do? We have a national border now that we can’t (won’t) defend. Our economy is being destroyed in part by the cheap labor and drugs that freely cross it. The same thing would happen with Liberal/Conservative borders. We (conservatives) don’t have the numbers to support what we want, and that imbalance in getting bigger every day.
  14. Doesn’t sound to me like Alabama law allows it.   The shoplifters will now probably come forward so they can sue the guy.
  15.    It’s confusing. The bill is veto proof, but the Governor doesn’t have to sign it. If he refuses to sign it, they have to wait 60 days for it to become law. I don’t know if this extension means that 60 day clock won’t start until July 9 or not. I don’t think there is any way Madigan or Quinn can stop this bill from becoming law. They don’t like that Chicago is not allowed to keep their anti-gun laws in place and are trying to find a way around it. As I said Quinn and Madigan are both going to be running for Governor next year. They couldn’t get done what Chicago wanted, so it could hurt them in the election. That’s a good thing. It shows how arrogant the Chicago machine is. The SCOTUS has ruled their gun ban illegal, the legislature has passed a carry law, and still they are looking for a way to ban both guns and carry. The sad part of this is that the good people of the state of Illinois see what’s going on and don’t like it, but the people living off the government in Chicagoland have the votes. (Same thing is going to happen everywhere else)
  16.    Would have probably been drug out for a long if it went back to the 7th and they shot down “May Issue”. In 2011 the 2nd Circuit upheld NY’s restrictive carry laws sayings it’s not unreasonable for a person to show a need to defend themselves above that of an average citizen to get a carry permit. The SCOTUS would have then had to decide if they were going to hear it or let the Federal Districts handle it. They turned down the NY case without comment.     The AG is Lisa Madigan, who fought hard for gun control. She is running for Governor next year; this defeat may have helped keep her out of that office.  (Even though daddy is the Speaker of the House and leads the Democratic Party in the state.)
  17. It wasn’t the NRA it was the Second Amendment Foundation. It passed because of the pro-carry legislators that stood their ground against the Chicago machine. If all they wanted to do was block carry; they could have easily passed a “may issue” bill.
  18. Never has been a felony.
  19. Angelina does it better.
  20. If the following days we will get specifics, but I think an example of what they meant by public gatherings is that many cities in Illinois have yearly celebrations where bands play and liquor is sold. They can prohibit carry in those areas, but you can still drive through. Knoxville invoked a no carry zone when the Klan had a rally downtown; so it can be done here also. Until we get specifics it does seem vague and open to abuse by local governments.
  21. This isn’t a loss for Illinois. They could have chosen to take this to the SCOTUS; they didn’t. Until a few days ago they were still talking about “Shall Issue” at the whim of the County Sherriff; they didn’t go that route either.    Chicago fought this tooth and nail; they lost. And they lost on a gun control issue. Why so much hate for the people of Illinois you want to see them killed? Illinois is a good state filled with good people.
  22. JayC, you know yourself that is not what I said. I said that the Feds can’t say everyone can strap on a gun and walk down the street without restriction; some states would refuse; I would bet Tennessee would be one of them. The SCOTUS has not specifically ruled on the “bear arms”; leaving it up to the states and Federal Districts but have indicated States Rights. They will eventually have to specifically address it if there is disagreement between the Federal Districts. How long will it take? Well it took over 50 years for the court to acknowledge and individual right to own.
  23. This is great news for all the people that worked so hard. But is funny that the deciding factor came from a very unlikely source; the 7th Circuit Court. The 7th has always ruled that the 2nd was not an individual right, but fell in line once the SCOTUS ruled it is. This legislation also appears to make a car a “Safe Harbor”. A secured gun could be kept in a car even if it’s parked in a prohibited place. Unless if by “secured” they mean unloaded; that’s always been legal other than Chicago.
  24. Defamed him? You have got to be kidding me. Suing the wife of a murder victim for something her husband said to defame him would be laughable if it wasn’t for the emotional distress it will cause the widow. I can’t believe a Judge will allow this 30 seconds of a courts time.
