I’m not talking about holding the employer responsible; I’m talking about holding the city responsible for the ordnances they pass. I’m taking about a crime victim suing the city for not allowing the employer to run a background check that would have disqualified the applicant. Everyone wants people held responsible for what they do until it comes to a criminal that made a free will decision to be a criminal. These are criminal hugging politicians that are just trying to keep their costs down at the expense of the public’s safety. The dirt bag criminal may not have any money to get, but the city has money for the victim to get when they were injured because of a hiring practice forced on their employer by the city. How do these idiots get in office? The citizens of that city should call for the immediate dismissal of any city council member that voted for that. They shouldn’t be running a widget factory let alone a city.

It might stop over a liability issue. I wonder what would happen when one of the office girls is raped by a convicted rapist that the company would not have hired, except for the fact they were banned by the city from doing a background check.

It doesn’t surprise me; you will always have the entitlement crowd. Part of the deterrent of committing a felony is that it stays with you for life.

Kid Rock Issues Warning to Burglars..."I'll Shoot Ya."
DaveTN replied to waynesan's topic in General Chat
A guy on crutches forces the gate open with a van and then tries to get into a building on the property? That doesn’t sound like your typical burglary to me…. What’s the rest of the story? -
Unless you work in security or a secure location they may or may not find out about past arrests or convictions. But many places ask specifically if you have ever been arrested and to list the circumstances. They will make the determination if it’s important to them. Even if you don’t work in a secure location there are misdemeanor arrests that could keep you from getting a job. DUI and Domestic Violence are worse than Bank Robbery in a job interview. That is until being a criminal becomes a protected class. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/68570-background-checks-off-limits-to-employers/

Only 12 states revoke your right to vote permanently and even in those it depends on the case. 23 states allow you to vote after time served and parole or probation. 13 states allow you to vote after time served. 2 states do not take away voting rights and allow convicts to vote by absentee ballot while in prison.

Watch this trend closely. Keep in mind that a large voting class will want this to become the norm. Should they decide to climb off the couch and go get a job they don’t want a trivial detail like being a child molester or having done time for selling heroin on the corner to be held against them.

Exactly, it’s insane. So how can anyone justify it? Because the people that live off handouts from the government have a deal with the politicians; you keep sending us a check and we keep you in office. A bunch of those hard working middle class people you know; won’t go vote. People voting on their income make sure they vote.

Can anyone answer this about Florida Carry?

I bet they ask applicants for the Police and Fire Departments about their criminal history; and I bet they check.

I have an SR1911 I haven’t had a chance to shoot it for grouping yet, but I don’t think it needs a trigger job. How do those groups you shot compare to before the work?
-
It’s made up. Lenny wrapped some plastic (Kydex) around an AR to make its shape obvious. He and some others think that constitutes a case. I don’t know if it does or not, that’s a question the court will have to answer.
-
I’m talking criminal court; there is a good chance civil court is going to happen unless (in this state) you have a court ruling you were justified. You aren’t going to end up in criminal court because of the ammo you used.

Interesting commentary on the decline toward police state
DaveTN replied to Jonnin's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
So you want us to believe that if we randomly pick X number of cases of shootings where the Police Officer was justified in shooting, and compare those to the same number of cases where a citizen was justified in shooting; the Police will have a number that is 5 times higher than the citizens numbers of shooting a person they did not intend to shoot? yeah, okay facts... -
Don’t try to bring facts into this. Either North Korea is going to fry all our electronics or some terrestrial event is going to knock them out. Otherwise all the preppers’ crap they have will go stale, rust or rot. I wonder if North Korea will says “oops!†when they think they have knocked out our electronics and those ballistic missile subs start lighting their azzes up.

When asked about it; he refused to answer. I doubt they found or read that paperwork until after he was arrested and they got to HQ to fully examine the weapon and the case. It isn’t their responsibility to go on a hunt for the paperwork; it’s his responsibility to display it upon request. Of course he is arguing that unless they are ATF or IRS agents they don’t have the authority to even ask to see it. Because Tennessee state law outlaws suppressors unless a person has Federal paperwork I think he will find out he is wrong, but we will have to wait and see.

This. Common sense is sometimes overlooked as being the obvious factor. Don’t be stupid and you won’t be in court.

I’m not big on paying for someone’s name of the side of a production gun. So if I wanted a true custom 1911 I would go to one of the custom builders here in the state, sit down with them, discuss what I wanted and have them build me a custom. I have not researched this because I haven’t wanted one, but I think G&L (or one of the gun shops) has a custom 1911 builder with a good reputation. I would also want to see how one of their guns performed against my out of the box S&W SW1911 or a Kimber so I could see if it’s worth two or three times (or more) the money.

An hour and nine minutes of this guy? I don’t think I can stand that.
-
Doesn’t sound to me like they are very limited in what they can do. Sounds like they make case law as they go.
-
Link them to his website and see what they think of him.

I think a better question (for the Feds to answer) would be how did a guy whose own state revoked his HCP saying he was a danger get an FFL? I have no idea what the Feds can and can’t do as far as pulling an FFL; you obviously have access to laws that I have not seen. I know a lot of people here said the state of Tennessee couldn’t pull his HCP because he had committed no crime; but they did.
-
I doubt it will go that far. Sounds like Lennys job is on the line; he needs this over. For as smart as some here seem to think he is; I don’t think he thought he would be arrested. The issue is the suppressor and his refusal to present the paperwork. I’m guessing he surrenders all NFA stuff and the Feds yank his FFL.
