  1. Many years ago I could run a tag for both owner info and DL information. I got back the same info for the registered owners(s) I would get back if I had their Driver’s license in my hands. And I could do it in seconds; can Officers not do that today?
  2. http://www.tricities.com/news/article_76a869e5-f9ef-5f57-8f72-db0b346bcf54.html Why do they even print something like that.
  3. The dealer might have a legal obligation to give you a refund since he sold the gun at a location other than his place of business; but it’s been more than three days so that probably doesn’t apply.   I wouldn’t mess with the dealer unless your wife wants a refund. If she wants to keep the gun I would send it to Ruger myself. That way you will be in communication with them and can even give written instructions on the problems.   Just reread your post, since the dealer is sending it in I would contact Ruger and talk with them so you don’t have any surprises when it returns and they will get the straight story on what you want.
  4. Here is a link to the story and video this genius started. You have to watch it all the way through. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dr-gridlock/wp/2013/10/08/ga-trucker-sets-internet-abuzz-with-threat-of-beltway-shutdown/ Oh by the way…. This is so important to him that now he is saying he doesn’t know if he will be able to make it or not. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/trafficandcommuting/capital-beltway-shutdown-all-a-ploy-trucker-says/2013/10/08/1e446572-3033-11e3-bbed-a8a60c601153_story.html
  5. Terrorism? These aren’t terrorists, you don’t want a Police state yet you want the Police to take freedoms away from some people because they ride motorcycles. That’s the same thing some are trying to do to gun owners.   One ricer decides to brake check a car. I’m sure he thought he could accelerate out of the way, his skills were not what he thought they were he got his azz ran over, and all hell broke loose.   I’ve been in many motorcycle rides that may have been intimidating to some people. But we never hurt anyone.   How many posts have you seen on his very forum where members have said they will brake check people?   How would you be responding if this was a story about cops stopping this group and telling them to get off the road?   One person put this in motion and emotions snowballed it into a stabbing. The guy who started it needs to be charged with what he did, the guys that damaged that vehicle need to be charged with what they did and those that pulled that guy out and stabbed him need to go to prison for the rest of their lives (of course that won’t happen).
  6. It’s time to make people do their jobs. Is a kid bringing a knife to school in a fishing tackle box the same as a thug carrying his switchblade in school? No, they are not the same and should not be treated the same. Take discretion away from teachers and law enforcement and this is what you will get; zero tolerance. It sucks and it’s because some people are too lazy or scared to do their jobs. Felony my azz, the Police officers and the DA (if this kid is charged) should be ashamed.
  7. They are. But it won’t make much difference in a lower. Who does the final machining and their quality control is far more important than billet vs. forged.
  8. I think it’s great he took the time to make that that young man’s day. Of course he will probably be suspended if he takes that letter to school because it has the word “gun” in it.
  9. Best bang for the buck in a low cost hunting rifle? This time of year Dicks usually offers a Remington 700 heavy barrel with an ugly camo stock and a cheap scope for around $449. I looked at it and it appears to be the same barrel and action they use in their higher end heavy barrel rifles (less the finish). I’ve not seen anything close in that price range for what you are getting.
  10. Concealed carry and high capacity do not go well together. I keep an M&P 40 and an extra mag in the car regardless of what I’m carrying.   However, since you are concerned about the motorcycle attack I will offer by 2 cents on that. The best weapon may not always be a gun, especially if you have your wife and children with you. The victim in the bike attack rendered the best weapons he had (his vehicle and cell phone) useless when he took that exit ramp. I’m sure he was scared, but he let that fear cause him to lose situational awareness and defensive thinking.   He had already shown the bikers that he would not hesitate to run over their sorry azzes if they attacked him. So as long as he was moving on that highway he was safe; they weren’t going to get in front of him. He exited and put himself in a traffic jam; his vehicle was no longer a weapon; it was rendered useless.   Would a gun have done him any good? We don’t know, but if you have a large group of people after you in a carry state like Tennessee and you start shooting people; I would bet rounds would be inbound. While we are all 10 foot tall and bullet proof our wives and children are not.   I don’t blame the guy for being scared; but he had a better weapon than a gun and he panicked and gave it up. I think that’s the lesson to ponder here.
  11. Because you are making contact from an ad on the internet. Read all the stories of people busted.   However, in most of the stories I have seen an investigation was triggered either by an incident involving the gun used in a crime, or suspected drug dealers that also traffic in guns (gun buys are easier to make than drug buys), or crossing state lines.   Like this ... http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2011/01/31/Ohioan-charged-illegal-gun-sales.html
  12. Wow, sounds like the guy really freaked out after shooting someone.
  13. Enterprise Car Rental will make sure she doesn’t starve to death.
  14. It won’t be, felony is not even an issue in your case. That statue also specifically addresses the crime of misdemeanor domestic violence. (If that is what you were convicted of)
  15. Here is a link to recent stories of two men, one given a Presidential Pardon by Obama, the other given a full Pardon from the state in which he was convicted. Tennessee refuses to allow them to purchase guns. http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2013/apr/15/whats-a-pardon-worth/   Both those cases are felonies, but the statute the TBI is pointing to also covers DV convictions (39-17-1307). http://www.lexisnexis.com/hottopics/tncode/
  16. Here is a link to a 77 page document on the placements of signs in Murfreesboro. It appears to cover most anything having to do with a sign. http://www.murfreesborotn.gov/DocumentCenter/View/81
  17. Glen, it boils down to this… You were convicted or you weren’t. We are all speculating based on what you are saying. If it was dismissed, you don’t need an expungement. If it was a conviction for DV; you need to talk to a Tennessee attorney and see what he tells you will happen with your guns rights if he can get it expunged.   It may just be a case where a disposition didn’t get entered. Dismissed, lesser charge, whatever. You can find that out yourself or you can pay an attorney to do it.   The fact you were allowed to buy guns at other times, or you aren’t sure what you were convicted of won’t help you if you are arrested with a gun and a DV conviction shows up. I’m making no judgments about you but your story is confusing. I’ve never heard of Judge convicting someone when the victim says in open court that they lied and falsified a Police Report. Yes, the state can prosecute you without a complaint from the victim, but if you were in court that was already happening; they didn’t need to “pick it up”.   But none of the story of how it happened will have one bit of impact on what happens to your ability to buy a gun. In my case I knew the gun charge was dismissed, in your case you don’t for sure what happened. You need to find that out first; and it’s not hard.   If you have a DV conviction it is addressed by both state and federal law concerning your gun rights, and you will need an attorney to try to get them restored.
  18. Wow....that’s bizarre. I wonder if that happened or if they are just trying to make the pro-gun people look bad? If that happened those people need to be arrested. I still don’t know why the cops are involved. I would think they would have a street department that handles this kind of thing?
  19. Since the estate is substantial I would assume the son is already in contact with an attorney. My WAG would be that if the son can show the relationship with the girlfriend was over the court will rule in favor of the family (son).
  20. Or convicted of DV with court supervision for a period of time ending in a dismissal when completed? I’d make a call to clerk of the court before I contacted an attorney or paid for anything. It doesn’t cost you anything and you will know how to proceed.
  21. Of course they will recognize it if it was a dismissal. They won’t recognize it for a conviction on violent crimes or some crimes involving drugs. There is a case in the courts here now where a guy from (Alabama?) had a drug conviction and has a full pardon from the Governor of that state; Tennessee won’t restore his gun rights.
  22. If it works you can pay for an expungement, but I went through the same thing on a misdemeanor gun charge that was dismissed. The dismissal wasn’t recorded. The TBI couldn’t tell me what was going on. The BATF told me when I applied for my C&R. Contacted the Circuit clerk’s office and they fixed it; cost me nothing.

  24. You don’t need it expunged if it was dismissed. Yes, it can be expunged. Tennessee does not recognize expungements to restore gun rights. I don’t know if the feds do.   If you are worried about losing the HCP $125 + cost of class; apply for a C&R license; costs $30 and you will know.
