Was it Robbery or burglary/theft? Robbery is an act of violence by definition.
-
I doubt that felony vandalism and discharging a firearm charge would end well for anyone; so much for your HCP. I’d hate to be a kid with an RC helicopter or plane in you guys neighborhood.

Like Patton I would go for a steel frame in a J-frame. Even then though, my girlfriend shot it (Mode 36) and handed it back, wanted nothing to do with it, and that after I told her it was a handful make sure she had a good grip. If you want an M&P Shield why not just get it? It won’t cost any more than a good J-frame. Is she going to carry it? If not and it’s for home protection a 4†686 L-frame makes more sense to me. With .38’s it’s a cream puff, even with .357 it’s more controllable, easier to shoot and absolutely more accurate than a J-frame, plus she gets an extra round (or 2 if you get the 7 shot). It’s also an excellent Range/Target gun. It will cost more than a Shield, but it is the original point and click interface. Don’t get me wrong I love my J-frames, but I don’t leave them out for my wife when I’m not there.

I don’t think I would call them a “second chance†for the person convicted because they are generally just on points of law. However, that may give the person a new trial. In this case though it’s not about a conviction, instead it’s an argument about whether or not Tennessee is required (by state law or by either the Tennessee State Constitution or the U.S. Constitution) to restore his gun rights. I did some checking and it appears this will stand; The Tennessee State Supreme Court has refused to hear his case.(10-16-13)

I gave a friend of mine the name of a good gun lawyer. He paid a big retainer and after a few days the attorney told him he couldn’t get his gun rights back with drug charges. He kept a good chunk of the retainer. There is (or was) a case going through the Tennessee courts of an Alabama or Georgia guy that had a pardon from the Governor of the state that convicted him; Tennessee still recognizes him as a convicted felon. But I don’t know what happened with the case; if anything yet. The story I heard was drugs or violence and you don’t get your gun rights back in this state. Expungement doesn’t mean the record is gone. But it’s about the only option he can try.

I watched Captain Philips last night and the obvious question is why they just don't have some crew members that are trained marksmen? Is because of laws against firearms? I’ve been on cruise ships that offered skeet shooting. I would be fine with shooting attacking pirates. And even if that bothered them a .50 cal round through those boat motors would end the drama pretty quickly. So what’s up; why do they not arm or protect themselves?

I agree. But it would require taking some money from the war on drugs and building prisons with it. Most are overcrowded now and no one wants more. Most criminals don’t have money or property and can’t pay fines. So all that can happen is lock them up or let them go.

Boro Officer ... bullet proof vest, person-to-person sale = trouble
DaveTN replied to Peace's topic in General Chat
Why did someone call it in? Because they thought it was suspicious. It happens all the time and is one way criminals are caught. Why did the Police respond? Because it’s their job. When a citizen calls in something suspicious the cops go check it out. When dispatchers get to start deciding what’s suspicious; there is a serious administration problem. The Officer is now suspected of felony theft. With his suspension and decommission I assume there is evidence that the vest belonged to the department. If the accusations prove to be true; a bad cop was taken down. I think that makes it pretty clear why the call was made and why Officers responded. I paid for that vest. I don’t like people stealing from me. Good job by the investigating Officers. -
Happened last night. I didn't see anything posted. http://www.wsmv.com/story/24585997/2-bodies-found-in-walmart-lot

No shop I have ever been in would allow WD40 around any machinery. It’s okay as a cleaner, but it’s not something you want on your guns.
-
I’m okay with that. Is that pending legislation; do I need to write letters or send emails to my legislators?
-
I believe you are; but I would have to go back and read the statute. I wouldn’t want to put my HCP at risk by testing that. I'm notifying anyway, but I'm certainly not implying its required by law.

Predator drone helps convict North Dakota farmer
DaveTN replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
Sure he can. The 4th amendment protects us from unreasonable searches. When asking for a warrant the Judge decides if it reasonable, then later in pre-trial hearings it could be challenged. But if you pull guns on cops that have a search warrant you should go to prison; if you live through it. Legal arguments are heard in a courtroom; not at the scene. -
Predator drone helps convict North Dakota farmer
DaveTN replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
This is exactly the opposite of ruby ridge. LE armed with a legal search warrant was threatened by armed family members when they tried to search the property. Instead of LE engaging them and people getting killed; they backed off and waited. What would you have had them do, because they were threatened with deadly force drop the whole matter and act like it didn’t happen? Drones are just tools. As the technology evolves the cost will come down to a fraction of what it costs to operate a manned helicopter or airplane. If you are out in the open you have no more of an expectation of privacy than if a cop was driving by and saw you. So don’t do stupid or illegal stuff when you may be on seen. -
confiscation in California pretty bad..from the NRA
DaveTN replied to Dustbuster's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I don’t see anything there from the NRA even though that is in the displayed name of the links. Those are all links from a CA attorney seeking business. Are there some legitimate links or stories to back this up? -
A nuclear powered assault rifle. The press is going to love this.

When I clean guns I remove all live ammo from the area for obvious reasons. (I do use snap caps) I don’t know that “fumes†could do much. But how would anyone know? If it did you would have a fail to fire or a squib and I doubt anyone would think they must have got some fumes in their ammo.

It won’t matter. I worked outside in 20 below a couple of times. But no one that needs shot comes out in those temps. :)

Intent and state of mind. The jury heard testimony that made them believe he knew what he was doing. That is not in that news story. I would like to know more about this story. I’m curious how someone could be convicted for selling a legitimate product even if they knew it was being used for meth. Is the clerk at the store committing a crime when they sell a person rolling papers? How about the people that make those tiny little zip lock bags that crack is sold in; are they committing a crime? I think we all would have acquitted him at face value based on that story; or at least there would be a hung jury. But not a single juror held out. So I want to know what they heard that is not in that story.
-
I will watch his videos if I see a product I’m interested in. If you quit watching people because they give an opinion you don’t agree with on a product you like; you won’t be watching him long. He gives some good information on most stuff but is just way off base on some other stuff. You can’t argue that he doesn’t completely cover an item; he can drag it out forever. Sometimes I just have to hit the STOP button.

Well… I thought I was an educated carrier; apparently not. I’m educated about cops and have done thousands of traffic stops. Tennessee doesn’t require me to notify; it’s up to me. I choose to notify based on my experience, others must make their decisions based on their experience. Please share with us your experiences that make you say those of us that choose to notify are uneducated carriers. Unless you are being searched the 4th amendment has nothing to do with this. Unless you are being questioned the 5th has nothing to do with it. If you have an HCP and being asked if you are armed or have any guns in the vehicle; you are required to answer that.

Convenience Store Clerk With Gun Thwarts Robbery
DaveTN replied to Vistar's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Did the clerk get fired? -
I’m not a LEO now; but I was, I was a Police Officer. Cops don’t have immunity in a wreck. They also don’t have immunity even if running emergency equipment. At least that was the way it was in the state I was in, I will assume it is the same in Tennessee. Getting “written up†is not “fault†in an accident. I explained to people that I don’t determine fault, their insurance companies or the courts will do that; I just write the vehicle code violations I feel occurred. Insurance companies pretty much do what they want. As far as the speeding and turning into a witch hunt; it will always turn into a Witch hunt on the interweb. We had a citizen get on the radio in an Officers Car and start yelling for help saying “There is blood everywhereâ€. An alert tone went out with an "Officer needs assistance". I was on the south side of town the incident was on the North. I hit the overheads, the siren and blew the red light I was sitting at. I told the dispatcher I was a long way off. At the same time a couple of Officers that were closer cleared the call they were on and said they would take it. The dispatcher told me I was the only car she had clear, she told me to move central and remain available. I shut the lights and siren off and slowed to the speed limit. Awhile later I was called into the station. My Sargent was there with a couple that was making a complaint. He explained that they saw me throw on the overheads just to bust a red light and they wanted to make a complaint. We played them back the tape of what had happened; they apologized said they were embarrassed and left. I can’t count the number of times I have blown a light or been speeding responding to a call only to be called off and returned to normal driving. My point is you may have no idea of what you are really seeing. As far as what happen in this story; we have one side of a story. Not much here and certainly not enough to start throwing cops under the bus. I can only say that if I was looking for a reason to stop someone they probably couldn’t drive 4 blocks without me having a reason to stop them; let alone 4 miles. I’m not saying there aren’t bad cops; I know some. But I will say this; if you brake check or instigate a bad cop on a traffic stop you may end up regretting it for the rest of your life. Bad cops don’t play by the rules and if its only you and them; you may not like the outcome.
-
Tailgating is wrong no matter who is doing it. If he hit you it would be his fault. If a cop knows the vehicle code and wanted to stop you I doubt you would make it 4 blocks let alone 4 miles. But it makes for an active thread.
