Fortress 24 gun safe from Lowes. Any opinions?
DaveTN replied to Tennjed's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
What happens when people that think they are buying an American Made safe find out their claims of being American Made are fraudulent? -
Have the manufacturers raised prices? I don’t think so. These price increases seem to be from middlemen and retailers.

If that plane was headed North, and it turned West and flew for “hundreds of milesâ€, would it not have been on the radar of some air traffic controller somewhere? Would no one have questioned it, attempted contact, or had any normal verbal contact with it? Could it enter India airspace with no contact or flight plan?

I think the U.S. built Military M9's have steel guide rods. My M&P’s have steel, but I‘ve seen people wanting to change them to tungsten. Some people will buy anything.

It’s going to be a long race if they race until Memorial weekend.

I can’t buy the “stolen†scenario. Too much technology involved, too many people would be required to keep their mouths shut, flying below radar with no citizens reports, killing 239 people; nope. Short of an explosion I can’t imagine any mechanical failure that would cause the plane to crash without an opportunity for someone to broadcast a message. I think it exploded at altitude (35K feet) and the debris is all over the ocean or a remote part of South Vietnam and just hasn’t been found yet. The purpose of terrorism is to cause terror. A plane missing only cause’s terror in the families of those on-board; not the general public. I would think terrorists would have claimed responsibility of taking out a large passenger jet even before it was discovered missing.

It is an inconvenient truth.

Over the next 3 or 4 weeks it is going to get very warm. You won’t have to wear a coat and you will be needing the AC in your car. Global warming is real.

No Robert, I don’t believe the state can take away any of the other rights you have listed. And I don’t think they could take away this right if the people weren’t all right with it. I am absolutely sure I have a natural right or a “God Given†right to carry a gun. We see every day that there are people out there in our community that will kill us if we can’t defend ourselves. I am equally as sure that the state of Tennessee does not agree with my beliefs or assessments and is fine with creating laws that give these killers the upper hand. If you carry a loaded gun without their permission they will put up in jail. Local Police, County Sheriff’s Departments, THP, and TBI are tasked with law enforcement and maintain public safety. Therefore, the Feds don’t have jack to say about who can carry and who can’t. The 2nd amendment hasn’t applied to the individual from the civil war to the Heller decision. We now have a right to keep arms but the state will control where we will bear them. (Until there is another ruling on exactly how much the state can limit the bearing of arms.) Don’t look for that to be happening anytime soon.

Robert, I’m a realist. Maybe someday you will get your wish that everyone in the country can carry a gun, but being a realist I’m pretty sure the only way you or I will see it will be if our government collapses. They only way you will legally be able to carry a gun is if the state you are stranding in allows it. Call me lazy and stupid if you like but that is the way it is and the way it is going to be. We have legislation on the table right now to allow all citizens to carry. But according to you it can’t pass. So who being stupid and lazy is causing that? Time for a nap.

I’ve never hidden the fact that I believe in States Rights and believe they trump the 2nd amendment. The Federal government does not have the authority to say whether or not you can wear a gun; that’s up to the state legislature and those responsible for maintaining order. If the state says you can all walk down the street wearing guns; that is the way it will be, if they say you can’t; same thing applies. We fought a war over States Rights that no one wants to fight again. The Feds won’t be calling the shots on who wears guns. Good for the cops that refuse to participate and are trying to make a change.

Gun Companies Moving Out Of Anti-Gun States
DaveTN replied to waynesan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Why would they leave Illinois? The Illinois Supreme Court just ruled that the 2nd amendment protects the right to carry a gun outside the home. Illinois could be a constitutional carry state before Tennessee. Tennessee has that legislation on the table right now, but I’m told by members here it can’t pass. Unless of course you mean the weather. -
Gun Companies Moving Out Of Anti-Gun States

This is what smart state governments are doing. Not just with gun manufacturing but with all manufacturing. The only thing that will fix economic problems is money; jobs is money. In Tennessee it appears to me that many times when someone wants to build here; residents in the area start fighting it (legal action, etc). Seems everyone wants the business here; as long as its not in their area. -
I hope you are right. But putting over 200 people on the ground at another airport with no electronic contact and no one reporting any visual…. That’s the stuff movies are made of.
-
Why? There are a lot of easier ways to steal a plane than with 239 people on-board. They may have hijacked it and killed everyone including themselves. Still seems like some type of message would have got out. This plane could not have landed at an airport.

You will hear good and bad about any gun you choose. I would say that since you are talking about two manufacturers with top of the line reputations; it won’t be an issue. However, one of the guns you are looking at is used. Don’t ever pay near new price for a used gun. What if Bubba had it? What if he “tweaked†the trigger, fitted a new safety, polished the feed ramp with a Dremel tool, dry fired it 5K times while watching TV, or shot a bunch of junk steel case ammo through it? You already said you budget was higher than the extra hundred or hundred and a half it would take to get new. Even a Glock or an AK can fail to fire after Bubba has tweaked it.... and you will be blaming the mfg.

I have no personal knowledge of the technology involved but I refuse to believe that no one (No country) was tracking that plane and knows when and where it went down. Obviously if it was the U.S. they aren’t going to say. But you would think North Korea or China would step up. That plane didn’t blow up at 35K feet or drop like a rock without someone noticing. Now just where did I put that tin foil hat.....
-
You haven’t even got the gun bought yet and you are changing the type. See how we all end up with so many guns and why there is no “One gun does everything†?
-
Could have been from the TBI check. We used to get calls all the time that an off duty Officer or a complainant called in that a wanted person was in a store; could have been something like that also.

I’d pitch the Colts and wouldn’t want anything but stainless. The GI’s weren’t made by SA; they were imported from Brazil. I don’t think they even offer them anymore do they? On your list that leaves the stainless Kimber’s; can’t go wrong there. If they don’t have a stainless Kimber where you look; I would check out the S&W Stainless SW1911. I also have a Stainless Ruger SR1911; it would be a couple hundred less than a Kimber or S&W and much nicer than the GI model.

There are no safe guards. The Posse Comitatus Act is probably what you are referring to. It doesn’t apply to National Guard units. It also wouldn’t apply if Martial law was invoked. If someone tries to take our country; our military will be used. No matter where the attackers were born or where the attack comes from.

My 79 TA had a 6.6 403 Olds. It was yellow though, so it took an extra day to sell it.

Unless these so called “experts†have some info on the pilots I’m not buying it. 53 years old, 33 years with the same airline, 18K hours….. Nope… he gets the benefit of the doubt until there is some evidence. I’d guess bomb or lightning strike before a suicidal pilot. But we are all just guessing at this point. The only fact I am sure of is that the plane is down somewhere. And since no airport has reported it; it doesn’t look good for the passengers.
