I use Mike Patterson at The Saddle Shop 5101 Murfreesboro Road College Grove, TN 37046 615)395-7555 mpatter2@bellsouth.net I also check with him before I order, he sometimes gets better prices than I do.

With the guns you listed put all your rounds in the 10 ring of a "NRA Official Pistol Target B-16 25 yard" target and you will be an extreme shooter. Start at 7 yards and don't move to the next level until you perfect the one you are at.

Maybe one of these? https://news.tn.gov/taxonomy/term/65

A guy at work had a problem with his DL he was asking me about. It was in an envelope from DHS.

I have a Remington VLS (Heavy Barrel Varmint, laminate stock) in 308. Also have a Mossberg MVP in .223. The VLS in in your price range, The MVP is about half the price. In fit finish and feel the VLS is far superior to the MVP. I can’t make a direct compassion on them for accuracy because the glass on the VLS is far superior to the glass on the MVP and I haven’t shot the MVP much. My question would be why do you want to spend that much on a target rifle that will do 600 yards and then pick .223 for the round? That will be your weak point on accuracy for long range shooting. Sorry but my recommendation would be a Heavy barrel Remington or Savage in 308.

Supply, Demand, Pricing and the future of rimfire shooting
DaveTN replied to graycrait's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I just read a story that CCI is adding capital equipment. In this economy manufacturers are leery of making capital equipment expenditures for a demand that will not stay high. Unless there is some political intervention; supplies will return. Now whether or not prices will return is anybody’s guess, if folks are willing to pay the price they won’t, unless stock is sitting on the shelves. The gun haters didn’t create this pricing and hording; gun owners did. The firearms market will have to straighten it out. -
As most of us have found there is no perfect gun; it is application driven. That’s why so many of us have multiple guns, because we have multiple applications. It sounds like your main concern is concealment. To get concealment you have to give up capacity and barrel length. There is a chance you will be in a shooting AND need more than five or six rounds, but it’s up there with winning the lottery or being struck by lightning. It also won’t be a target gun; that is a different application and requires a different gun. You can’t go wrong in a revolver with a steel or stainless J-frame; it has owned the revolver concealment application for decades. I have a model 36 I have had for nearly 40 years and still carry. However if I were buying today I would get a model 60 so I could use .357 if I wanted to, it also won’t have finish issues. You also mentioned the Shield. As you can see from the replies and other threads it is very popular. It’s my favorite “Sub Compact†because I could get it in .40S&W. Neither will impress anyone as a target or range gun. If you want that get a S&W 686 L-frame, it will shoot the center 10 ring out of a target at 25 yards; then you just have to find a way to conceal it. You are going to need more than one gun. Just decide if you want the carry gun or the range gun first. You can buy and sell guns without losing a dime. The only other hobby I have had where I could do that was Corvettes.

The key to photography is light and controlling it. Have you tried a Cannon Speedlight that is compatible with your camera? Does your camera have the ability to trigger a remote flash?

90 yr old S&W Fails to Function
DaveTN replied to HvBikeWlTravel's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I would contact Smith & Wesson first; they are the best in the industry in handling support issues. -
As a former cop I would recommend that your friend go to the HQ of the department the officer worked at and ask to speak with a Command officer. If going in person is an option it usually produces better results than calling, and the issue can be dealt with right then. If they can't fix the issue the DA can, but I wouldn't wait for the court date, he will be going to traffic court and the DA may not have any knowledge of the gun issue. We can make wild azz guesses all we want about whether or not there is more to the story, but it does sound strange that an Officer would take his gun. Did he have his carry permit on him? If the Officer thought he was violating the law, he isn't required to make an arrest right then, he could tag the gun as evidence and forward the report to the DA for possible charges. Hindsight is 20/20, but I would have taken the ticket and drove straight to the HQ and talked with Command. The longer the gun is in "the system" the less chance he has of getting it back without a hearing. But as I say, I wouldn't count on the gun issue being dealt with in traffic court unless he has had contact with the DA handling the case. Let us know what happens.

Minn. man convicted of murder in home invasion
DaveTN replied to midtennchip's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Goes to show there is no “free shootâ€. This was a burglary not a home invasion. I doubt these guys expected to run into the home owner. I have absolutely no compassion for a burglar and can remember when we could shoot them in Illinois. There should have been only one side of the story; his. But by executing them and then admitting it, plus recording it; he convicted himself. A 17 & 18 year old aren’t kids they are men. Two dirt bags got exactly what they deserved and now a home owner gets to go to prison for it. Justice….. not hardly. -
You don’t paint guns… ever.

[Motorcycle Electrical Problem] Any motorcycle electrical type folks here?
DaveTN replied to DaveTN's topic in General Chat
Okay I think we found the problem. The back of the instrument cluster had cut through a wire and was shorting out. The trouble finding the problem was that the wiring that was connected to a relay was not in any of the electrical diagrams in my service manual. The parts guy at Harley thinks it was added as part of an ignition switch recall that was done many years ago. My issue now is that the wire that was shorting showed 0 volts with the ignition on and common with ground with the switch off. The guys on the Harley forum thought that it should have voltage. With the relay plugged into the harness it would kick the main fuse and the relay and wires were so hot you couldn’t hold them. When I found the short and fixed it seemed to be fine, ignition on it didn’t kick the fuse, nothing was hot, and bike would start. The mystery is that with the ignition off that wire still shows common to ground. It runs from the relay in the faring, splits off under the instrument cluster and goes down and connects into a fuse panel in a terminal that doesn’t have a fuse in it. I’m not electrician so I would like to know if that wire and relay can be 12 volts with the ignition on and common with ground with it off? -

Thanks Frank I’m in the process of checking all the wiring. I’m no electrician, but just can’t figure out what could be drawing enough to kick a 50 amp breaker when I plug that relay in. I even turned out the lights in the garage and tried it, thinking if I had a bare wire somewhere touching something I should be able to see a 50 amp short; but no luck, just this relay clicking. -
I know this is a long shot for a gun forum, but I’m desperate. I’m trying to get my bike ready for a trip next weekend. I started it for the first time this year last weekend and rode it about 50 miles. The next day I was going to ride it to Clarksville… would not start. It was kicking the 50 amp main breaker as soon as I turned on the ignition, even before I tried to start it. I found that a relay in the fairing was the problem. When I unplugged it I could turn the ignition on without blowing the main breaker. The Harley store was closed so I replaced it was an automotive relay they said was the same. (BWD R681 from O’Rileys). The bike started fine and I took it for a ride. Stopped back at home went to start the bike and it wouldn’t start. I heard the main fuse (next to the battery) kick out before I hit the starter. Only this time I heard a clicking noise in the fairing. I took the headlights out of the fairing and it was this relay clicking before the main fuse kicked out. It was very hot to the touch when I pulled it. According to a picture in my service manual showing the two relays behind it, the one on the left is the brake light relay and the one on the right is the starter rely. It doesn’t show this relay. The two other relays are mounted to the fairing; this relay was just tie wrapped to the cable going to the other two relays. I don’t know what gage wire it is, but the three red wires that this relay plugs into are pretty heavy compared to everything else around them, it has one smaller black wire. I’m trying to get this fixed for a trip next weekend and of course the Harley shop isn’t open to get a Harley relay tomorrow. But I don’t know that a new relay will fix the problem???? 1995 Harley Ultra TourGlide FLTCU

That reamer looks like it has the leade on it. From the description it is what you need unless you are trying to change the angle of the leade. The leade and the throat are the same thing. That reamer appears to have the leade on it. To lengthen the leade I think you would have to change the angle. I would email Dave Manson at David@mansonreamers.com

That’s why I don’t judge the parents for anyone’s actions. I’ve done a lot of things some people don’t think is right, but it wasn’t because my parents didn’t raise me right; they were good parents. I take responsibility for my actions; right or wrong. In your case you apparently turned out okay in spite of messed up parents.

People that don’t understand why other people carry have never experienced firsthand the violence people will inflict on each other. If someone like your grandsons friend is making those kinds of statements I would assume he has led a very sheltered life. If they are being a smart azz my response is “I can shoot a criminal and go eat lunch; I know that because I have done it.â€

I’d be interested in seeing a documented case of someone that was committing a forcible felony suing their victim and winning. I just can’t get on-board with the idea the state can make carrying a gun a crime, but then raising those who pay for the privilege to a level above the rights of the business owner. I’m not a business owner, but I would tell the state to go pound sand. It’s a threat they can’t back up.
-
I learned long ago not to make a threat I could not back up. Threatening business owners with civil action in a state where carrying a gun is a crime is ridiculous at face value. Many businesses post because of liability concerns. So now we want to tell them they are hosed either way. Can we hit ourselves in the head with a hammer some more? I support carry and I do. But I feel the same way about this as I did about the parking lot issue; this reeks of a thug government. With the state not recognizing a right to carry, there will be a showdown with business; we will lose.
-
More hypocritical non-sense from legislator’s. If the state doesn’t recognize carry as a right; they can’t force it down the throat of business. (They can, but it shouldn’t hold up in court)
-
I don’t carry much, depends on what I’m doing or where I’m going. I don’t carry at home but have one within arm’s reach most of the time.
-
Of course it would be a better round it’s faster. Surface area and mass mean nothing; only velocity. (New Physics) However, you should never carry anything that holds less than 25 20 17 15 rounds. 15 rounds of .50BMG is too heavy to carry around all day, especially if you have to swim during your evasive maneuvers.

I wouldn’t get a touch screen unless you have an application for it; we are all still using a mouse. Win 8.1 is fine; the interface is easy to get use to or modify if you don’t like it. Fastest processor you can afford, 17" on a laptop, good graphics because what you get you are stuck with. Intel Dell built on-line. Had a Toshiba laptop that lasted a long time.
