  1. Isn’t that Michael Moore on the left? I think most of these idiots including our own local idiot are pro-gun control and doing everything they can to make it happen.
  2. Tennessee Die Supply will have what you need. You might want to have a discussion with them about your heat treat capabilities. That will probably drive your selection more than steel properties. http://www.tndie.com/ Tennessee Die Supply Company 725 Massman Drive • Nashville, TN 37210 PH: 1-800-251-4038 service@tndie.com
  3. No it’s not a law that you keep a record. It is a law that you are responsible to know that the person you are selling a gun to is not underage, a resident of another state, or someone you know to be a convicted felon. Most of us have no way to find out if a person is a felon, but we are responsible to know they are not underage and that they are a resident of this state (handgun). I think most responsible people won’t sell a gun to someone that refuses to show ID. I know I wouldn’t; but then I have always made that clear up front. I’m sure there are some people that will sell to anyone that has the cash. I know of many cases of guns that were tracked that didn't go through a dealer or background check.
  4. So find someone to test it. I don’t know all the legal ins and outs, but a trust can’t make a machine gun, a person would have to do it.
  5. Growth, mass marketing, and competition. My first home PC cost $3500 in 1989 (according to goggle that’s $6800 in today’s money) a comparable PC today would be less than $1000.
  6. But your name will be attached? With so many people looking to jack someone up on a private sale (underage, out of state, convicted felon), how many legitimate sellers will sell you a gun without you showing an ID? I’m sure there are some, but I would think your purchasing would be pretty limited.
  7. M&P is one of the most popular guns on this forum. I’m sure some members would appreciate letting us know where these cheap M&P’s are being sold. I don’t expect to pay new price for a used gun, so lately I have just been buying new. I don’t want a gun that has been dry fired for thousands of rounds or one that has been shooting steel case ammo; a few bucks isn’t worth the risk.
  8. If you sign up on GB (it’s free) and log-in it’s real easy to search what has actually sold. Do we really want people that aren’t even buyers to start deciding what’s a fair price? Is this really even a problem? I’m just wondering out loud about groups that would use it as an attempt at gun control.
  9. You know you guys can’t fix stupid? This is the interweb, rip-off sellers and stupid buyers will find a way to get together.
  10. Dateline did an in-depth story on this that was aired last night. (12 minutes on Elm Street) It was pretty good, they didn't seem to take sides or try to turn it into a gun issue. This guy obviously had mental issues. But between his statement about a “good clean finishing shot” , waiting 24 hours, and the audio recordings he didn’t have a chance in court. It’s an example of what we have discussed here many times; you can have all the “castle doctrine” laws you want, but you can’t execute a person that is not a threat. That’s what the evidence showed he did. I don’t feel sorry for those two kids. They were in the act of committing a forcible felony. It’s too bad that investigators found that recorder. Sorry if that sounds harsh but he could have laid in wait all he wanted, if no one had burglarized his home it would have been a non-issue. If you don’t have on-demand, I think this is a link for on-line. http://www.nbcnews.com/dateline/full-episode-12-minutes-elm-street-n107981
  11. I’d be curious to hear what happened, I bet alcohol or a weapon malfunction was involved. You can have all the guns on you that you want, but if a person knows they are going to rob you at gunpoint; it would be a pretty easy task for most people.
  12. You are going through what all new gun enthusiasts go through. You are looking for the one gun for all applications. … it isn’t out there. But the good news is you don’t have to choose between revolvers or 1911’s or Tupperware guns. Finding the right guns becomes an addiction. And like all addictions there is a cure; but as with other addictions it won’t be cheap. But there is hope, a light at the end of the tunnel if you will; many of us here have found the cure. Here is an example of what it looks like.... k
  13. Someone put those pictures together in that little “flip” thing that makes it appear he pulled his hands away and was resisting. But I don’t know. Hindsight being 20/20 he should have been taken to the ground and subdued. However, I have been in that situation and in a split second done something some might think brutal. I was not big on choking or going hands on, I was more into stepping back and using a weapon that would cause more immediate compliance. However, I had a more compassionate fried that use to say “They can’t fight if they can’t breathe”. Pull away or resist and you roll the dice. As I said, if the department has a policy against what the Officer did or if the perp thinks his rights were violated he has recourse.   If he was standing there doing what he was told and not resisting being cuffed, and the Officer choked him out for no reason; you are absolutely correct.
  14. You have no idea what I think. I was commenting on some here claiming choking someone out is a violation of department policy. If it’s a criminal act; charge him. As I understand it this case was given to the DA. Without seeing video or hearing the interviews of the Officers and witnesses involved I cannot make an intelligent decision. I understand that all we are doing is arm chair quarterbacking and that our opinions mean nothing, but all we have is some pictures with no statements from anyone. As I said, if it’s a clear cut case of criminal assault the guy will have no problem finding an attorney to take the case.
  15. I don't have much information on this, but from what little info we do have, the Deputy was fighting the dismissal. Maybe JJ didn’t want to run the risk of having his decision overturned. If Knoxville County allows a Judge that was committing a felony that caused a family to have to go through a new trial about the murder of their children, and they let him keep his pension, why not a cop that was acting on a suspect resisting?
  16. I don’t know the whole story, but it appears to me deal was struck that lets the Sherriff still say he fired the guy and lets the Deputy have a retirement he earned. Taking his retirement wouldn’t be justified unless he committed a criminal act; not a violation of department policy. The perp is free to sue the Deputy and the Sheriff’s office if he thinks he can win. Wasn’t it Knoxville where they let a Judge keep his pension after pleading guilty to official misconduct and then having Federal charges brought? The one that was using illegal pain killers during a big murder trial. I would guess if a deal was struck with this cop it included no criminal charges.
  17. Is the XP update site still up? I know that Microsoft is no longer updating XP, but have they taken the site down yet? I don’t have an XP machine available right now to try it.
  18. She told both Fox News and the Tennessean she is not running.
  19. The driver’s insurance company for them and the City insurance for the Officers medical…. But that’s just a WAG.
  20. Welcome to Tennessee; I moved here from Illinois 16 years ago. As has already been stated, once you get your HCP; don’t worry about it. Although it is hotly debated here you can carry however you like (for now). However, make sure you get your HCP within the time allotted; carrying a gun in Tennessee is a crime just as it is in Illinois. With an HCP, You can also carry a loaded rifle in your vehicle as long as a round is not chambered. I was in Illinois last weekend for the annual Motorcycle Freedom rally and the ride on the capitol. That event is one I use as an example of what a gun rights rally should look like. (Of course everyone doesn’t need to be on a motorcycle. ) You must have been one of the first to get an Illinois permit. My daughter sent me a text of hers last month along with pictures of her new carry holster. I use an OWB holster covered with a shirt.... no need for big azz pants. No way would I pocket carry a gun, but that’s just my opinion.
  21. In this day and age some companies tend to put more emphasis on the background of a person instead of looking at their proven performance or qualifications for a particular job. Race, religion, or sexual orientation should always take a back seat to qualifications or proven performance. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. Education should certainly be a factor if the employer so desires. Without a college degree to back it up I don’t know why anyone would be surprised that homeschooling could hold them or their kids back. If they already have a proven track record I don’t know why it would be an issue.
  22. It’s a $100 knife (if that). Here is what the price tag is for. http://www.giovanelliengraving.com/index.php?dir=pagine&file=home&id=1
  23. I thought someone posted here that Tennessee requires homeschooled kids to pass tests? Don’t they get some kind of diploma?
  24. The patch is from Mississippi, you are in Kentucky and the question is posed on a Tennessee board. The only law I can think of (other than some agency claiming ownership) that would affect you would be impersonating a Police Officer. That term gets thrown around a lot, but I think you will find that in most states that requires intent, not simply wearing something. I think you will be fine, just don’t accept any free donuts.
  25. In my opinion Federal Hydra Shok is the best SD ammo there is and has been for 30 years, but I wouldn’t carry it in a .380. I would stick will ball ammo, at least you will get some penetration.
