I don’t want to see background checks, but since that are all the politicians can get; they will continue to go for it. If they were serious about background checks they would be free, and they would be done at local state offices. Oh wait, you can’t have guns in most state facilities, so that won’t work. Felons are easy to weed out, but how are the mentally ill and people with mental problems going to get in a database? I don’t see even the liberal gun haters going along with that. (Too many of them would be in that database)

Because actions have consequences. They had to draw the line somewhere. It was drawn between Misdemeanor/Felony. Then the FEDS added in misdemeanor domestic violence and many states followed suit. How many people do you know that have been convicted of a felony that didn’t know they were committing a crime?

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think these nut jobs are OUR people. I think they are anti’s using a different approach.

I agree. And there may be a problem if an Officer said that and his department supported it. But many people will feel that the Officer has done something wrong if they are disarmed. Is it something the Officer should worry about? Well, if something tells them they should disarm someone carrying a deadly weapon on a traffic stop, and they ignore that due to some fear of repercussions; they probably should find a different line of work. And the state legislature took away that right.

http://www.tn.gov/safety/handgun/reciprocity.shtml Pretty clear cut. Yes, Kwick did obtain an out of state permit. But he is a TN resident and his carry privileges have been revoked by the state. He could carry in his car now, providing the rules of his bond don’t keep him from having guns. (Unless his case has been settled).

Nothing in the law keeps an Officer from making the scene safe. Probable cause or RAS is not required to disarm anyone. If an Officer wants to make the scene safe it sound be pretty easy to articulate that; if required to do so. Although I doubt this will be a problem; what law do you think they would be violating? If the state legislature wanted to recognize your right to carry; they would do so. They have not done that.

URGENT - Permit-less Car Carry in the Senate Tomorrow
DaveTN replied to wk05's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I carried a copy of both the Criminal Code and the Vehicle Code in my pursuit case. If I wasn’t sure; I read the statute, if someone was telling me the law had changed, I would have simply asked for a Command Officer. All seems pretty simple to me for someone that does their job. My point is that if a law change as big as allowing guns in cars to all citizens takes place, and an Officer is not aware of it, there is a serious problem, either with that Officer or with his Department. This is the information age; there is no excuse for not knowing something this major. I wouldn’t care if I was handed a copy of the law from a 20 or an 80 year old, if I don’t know what’s in it; I’m not doing my job. Now I will say this… you may not agree with the Officers interpretation of some given law; that’s a case for the courts. But not knowing basic law (gun possession is pretty basic) is unacceptable. -
URGENT - Permit-less Car Carry in the Senate Tomorrow

When I was a cop we had two very large binders that contained Departmental Operating Procedures and notifications. When we had major changes in the law every Officer received an envelope with the changes and how they impacted our operating procedures documented. They were discussed in the daily squad meetings and at training seminars. We were required to keep them up to date. Does that not happen in your friends departments? Is it a case of the Officers not being notified and properly trained or of them just not paying attention to the information they are given? -
Since I haven’t priced ricers in many years I just cruised through the Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha websites. If you look only at heavy cruisers and baggers that are in the same size class as a Harley I don’t see a lot of difference in price. That article says Harley is doomed because the upcoming riders won’t be able to buy a Harley. If that is true (and I have long said our kids won’t have the money for toys we had) then it will be true for all other manufacturers. It’s a product for those that can afford a $15K-$25K toy; the name on the sales contract won’t matter if they can afford the bottom line or not. What I saw on those websites was a bunch of bikes trying to look like a Harley. The one exception I saw was the Honda Goldwing; it’s not trying to copy the Harley look. I find it amusing that so many people see an addition at Harley as a sign they are in trouble. That’s no more than wishful thinking on their part. Harley Davidson is an American icon and for that reason alone many want to see them fail. http://blog.motorcycle.com/2014/04/22/manufacturers/harley-davidson/top-selling-motorcycles-us-2013-harley-davidson-street-glide-special-breakout/ http://www.sturgismotorcyclerally.com/news/read-more-news/the-worlds-best-selling-motorcycle-company-is .

Idaho Universities gearing up for guns on campus bill
DaveTN replied to JohnC's topic in General Chat
10% of the population of Boise is Boise State University, and they don’t have a Campus Police Department that carries guns? I find that odd, I wonder if Boise PD handles the calls on campus. -
Did Everything Weapons in Franklin sell me a used gun as new?
DaveTN replied to wtl's topic in General Chat
Yep, I would guess at the very least you will get a new mag out of the deal. -
Did Everything Weapons in Franklin sell me a used gun as new?
DaveTN replied to wtl's topic in General Chat
I bought a new gun that had obviously been fired from one of the top dealers on here. I even ask if it was used. They told me no; it came that way, its brand new. I had no reason not to believe them since guns are fired at the factory. That powder in the bore wouldn’t bother me but I don’t think manufacturers test with new magazines that go with the gun. That magazine certainly looks used. During your conversation did he ask you what you wanted done? -
I got a ticket and missed my court date! Freaking out a little!
DaveTN replied to Ladyhay's topic in General Chat
It’s just conversation. Engaging a person in conversation can tell you a lot, and possibly keep you alive. He may also be asking so he can let his partner (who is walking up on the passenger’s side of your vehicle) know what’s going on. Everyone has their own style of how they handle a traffic stop. If I was stopping a vehicle as a possible DUI and it comes back he has an HCP; my first concern would be determining if he is armed and separating him from that weapon. As any cop that has been on the street for a while can tell you; a “routine†“minor†traffic stop can quickly turn into something much more. -
It’s an hour (depending on how you drive) but Terry Waldens range at Manchester is 330 yards.

Unless Tennessee is 30 years behind other states (I'm pretty sure they are not) he is wrong. I could run a plate and get the registered owners, and their DL info, also showing convictions for the last 12 months, with one query. That’s how we did it. That’s why our dispatchers would simply replay with “Owners revoked†sometimes when we ran a plate. I’m not sure why this is always such a big deal here, but if an Officer was stopping a car, or looking for a car; that would be a good piece of info to have. -
No information, no waiting for the investigation; just lash out. I’ll bet if they catch the people that made the deaths threats or threw the drinks, they have no remorse and will give some lame azz excuse for what they did; hopefully as their being walked into the booking room.

I could if I was running it though Illinois database (not a separate check). Are you saying Tennessee doesn’t have that ability? I think multiple TN Officers on here have said they can. -
Those aren’t hunters. A real hunter couldn’t do that.

I have to laugh. I got sent on a call one time about a counterfeit bill. I told my partner unless they spelled something wrong or had the wrong person on it; I wouldn’t have a clue. Now here you guys are looking at a picture of a bill on the internet and deciding if it a fake.

I carried a model 36 (all steel) in an ankle holster for years; you get use to it. Just make sure its snug against the leg and not flopping around.

The Judge said he is too dangerous to get bond. I wonder what info he has that caused him to make that determination.

Is it the ammo or is the cylinder gap too tight?

I doubt they will do much. They quit making 9mm revolvers because they didn’t sell. The .357Mag is far more desirable than the 9mm and if that’s too much you can shoot .38 in the same gun; that’s a pretty good selling point. On the other hand a generation that grew up on Tupperware in 9mm and now has to pay through the nose for .357 (if they can get it) might make a difference. S&W gives people what they ask for.
