"Impossible to get legal gun carry permit in D.C."
DaveTN replied to The Legion's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Federal judge considers holding D.C. in contempt over gun laws http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/nov/20/federal-judge-considers-holding-dc-in-contempt-ove/ -
You can do that in GB. If you create an account and sign in you can do an advanced search of the completed auctions and see what they actually sold for, if they sold.

“Secret†and the Internet are opposing terms. The internet is all about the transfer of information. To some people (like me) that is a good thing, some people fear that. I’m a technology junkie; I (and I think most people) are crystal clear on the fact that people with the desire can monitor, track, and gain information about us. My vehicle can call for help if I am in an accident and unable to do so. I can ask my phone how far away somewhere is and it will tell me. If something happened to me or I needed help I can be located with pinpoint accuracy. Am I willing to give that up because a criminal may try to get my data or because today’s technology is used to capture a criminal? Nope. Privacy is a choice; but it’s not an all or nothing choice. Don’t do stupid things on the internet; don’t click on stupid things or open emails that are clearly questionable, don’t commit crimes or do things you don’t want made public out in the open where they are more than likely being videoed.

Thanks for the info. Have you shot the Jack West stock?

My “go to†guns are handguns, but the rifle I keep ready in case I need one is a .308 Panther.

Hold off on the collection; Obama will forgive his debt by Executive Order.

Someone hit my car while it was parked. A State Farm adjuster called me while I was at work and ask if they could come and take care of it. I told her I wanted it fixed at the dealer’s body shop. She said she was going to cut me a check and I could take it wherever I wanted. When I asked what happens if the estimate is more than the check; she said call us. The check was more than the dealers estimate. I was getting the car fixed and it couldn’t have been easier. The body shop manager tried to rip me off when I picked up the car, but that didn’t work. The work was good and I just chalked the incident with him up to him being a thief.

Why would any of that disappoint me? Other than the revolver comment (which was humor) we haven’t disagreed on anything. I didn’t say or imply you couldn’t put thousands of rounds through a quality 1911 or that you shouldn’t carry one. You paid for quality; good for you. The OP wanted to know what the difference was. The difference is you get a finely tuned mechanical device that is better in fit, form, and function.
-
The difference is the ability of the barrel to lock up in the same orientation to the slide every time. Mechanically that is a fine line between success and failure. If you can machine the barrel, barrel bushing, slide and frame to a perfect fit; you have success, but if you tighten the fit to perfect or near perfect you may be in trouble when you apply the coefficient of thermal expansion. Therefore you need enough clearance to repeat but not so tight it locks up or drags when it heats up. Use to be those guns were machined “one off†and hand fitted. Today those can produced in much higher numbers. Will a custom built target 1911 operate perfectly with Bubba doing mag dumps? No. But he will blame the magazines, ammo and everything else before he admits he’s using the gun for something other than it was designed for. The biggest factor is the shooter. People who don’t have the ability or don’t shoot a lot will spend $3500 on a handgun and expect it to shoot 5 shot touching groups at 25 or 50 yards. So what will happen if you spend $3k on a 1911? You will tighten up that group to as tight as you have the ability to do. Is it worth it? Not to me, I don’t shoot in competition anymore. If I did I would probably do it. But that’s your call. So the bottom line is you get the physics, metallurgy, and ballistics that you pay for, the rest is dependent on your skill. Your revolvers don’t suffer from the problem of the barrel and the sights moving separately; so you shoot it better; we all do.

In the case of an armed robbery I would think the cops would call the carrier and ask “Where is this phone?†Do they not do that?
-
I could get that stuck.

I got one of these free with a new computer, but at $249 they are pretty cool. It’s a full Windows 8 OS and even comes with full MS Office. It’s not as simple as a reader, but has almost all the ability of a laptop. Just another option... http://www.dell.com/us/p/dell-venue-8-pro/pd?oc=FNDNV8P01H&ST=pla&dgc=ST&cid=262076&lid=4742362&acd=1230980731501410

I don’t see that when I look around. I have a pretty substantial gun collection and the only foreign gun I have is a MN that was given to me by a friend. I don’t buy foreign guns; I don’t need to.

http://www.gunsholstersandgear.com/2013/10/22/colt-re-introduce-double-action-revolvers/ Sounds like it can. I work in machining; we can make anything and we can make the best in the world. We just can’t (nor can anyone else) make the best and make it cheap. A Python target market wouldn’t be price buyers. With S&W at or over $1K for their high end revolvers the market is obviously there. Gunsmiths can be trained just like we train Machinists, Mold Makers and Die Makers; we don’t have as many, but we can still train the best. Advances in CNC machine tool accuracies coupled with technologies like EDM, CNC grinding and laser; can reduce hand fitting.

Colt manufacturing hasn’t been a serious player for a long time. Colt defense still is. But Colt's own choices killed them in the civilian market; not the market. Remington is owned by Freedom group. They make the most popular shotgun of all time and make the most popular bolt action rifle of modern times. Marlin is also owned by Freedom Group and they pretty much have a lock on the lever gun market at this time. Smith & Wesson is always at the top of the heap. Sales are good for them and they continue to give customers what they want instead of what they think they need. They are the most progressive firearms company in the world. Ruger is off a little bit, but they are correcting course to what the market wants. So with all due respect I don’t see hard times ahead for any of the American giants. The market is good at this time.

I thought the same thing at first. But I will be over 12 feet from the TV in this room. I’m only 10 feet from the 65†when I’m lying on the couch and it looks great. The other bedroom has a 42 in it. I’m 10 feet from it and have to wear my glasses to see real detail, 10 feet from the 65†I don’t have to wear my glasses. Well, and if I’m understanding what they are saying the 4K standards may still change. Not sure what impact that would have on TV’s already out there though. I just don't see the $300-$400 difference being of any value to me.
-
I need a new TV for a bedroom. I already have a 65†in the living room so this won’t be my primary TV. For the size of the room I think I want to stay at 60†or below, maybe down to 55â€. I want a smart TV with all the internet capabilities. I don’t think I really need 4K, but some I have looked at are. My budget is around $1k. Most I have been looking at are around $800- to $1K with the 4K TV’s running in the $1400 range, I don’t have a problem with that if I could justify it. (I’m on the fence on 4K) I have waited because I expect some pretty good deals during the next few weeks. I have always thought the best picture was plasma, but most mfg.’s are or have discontinued them. So it looks like most will be LCD? Anything I need to look for in options or connections? I guess all I need are HDMI and Ethernet connections? I assume some are wireless? When the deals come; I’ll need to move quickly so I’m just trying to get ideas. I want the best technology and quality; the wife wants the best price. Thanks.

Is the facility in Alabama up and running? Aren't they also expanding a facility in KY? I haven't kept up on this much lately. Remington is a great American gun company; I wish them luck and will continue to buy their products.

This is the last bullet you’ll ever need — watch and see !

They only way they will do any good is if marketing can trump physics and ballistics. It’s just another frangible round. But it might help the economy if they are making them here. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/75241-destructive-9mm-ammunition/ -

There are no laws on what information an employer can give out (unless there is some Tennessee state law on it). Most big companies will do no more than verify employment, but that’s because it is what their attorneys tell is best to do. If you were fired for cause they can freely say what that cause was. As long as it’s true they have no problem; if it’s not true or they can’t prove it they could be sued. -
Exactly, if we throw that $700 figure out the window we open it up to everything. I assumed he didn’t want to get into the price range of S&W, Kimber, etc. The Ruger, the Remington and the lower end Springfield’s are the only thing I can think of without dropping down into the imports. So at that price the Colt seems like a good option to get started.
-
Since they didn’t design or manufacture it, and are only the importer; I’m thinking... no.
-
Is that $100 “Customer Loyalty Card†something that can be spent as cash, or something you have to spend with them? Nothing wrong with a Colt at that price, jump in; you probably won’t keep it anyway. Also take a look at the Ruger SR1911; it should be very close to that price at a LGS. Most everything else is going to hover around the $1K range give or take.

Recently on new I have had good luck finding forum dealers that will match or beat on-line prices. The guns I order are ones they don’t have, and most can’t tell when they will have something coming in.
