Congress passed the Veterans' Access to Care Act in August. He should try again.

I have been in a few of those situations. A K9 Officer shows up and gets a dog out and it’s nothing but azzholes and elbows. Why? Because criminals know those dogs do not give a damn; they are color blind and can’t be intimidated.

That guy resisted because of the taunting from the thugs. Once I had him in the car I would have cuffed and stuffed the loud mouth, and he would have taken the ride with him.

One of the worst calls (emotionally) I ever responded to was a home invasion. The perps grabbed the home owner while he was trying to put a magazine in his unloaded handgun. They beat him, tied him up and made him watch while the raped his wife. They both lived, but as you can imagine they were devastated; I’m sure their lives were never the same. It made me understand that I need to be able to get a functioning gun in my hands, a gun that I can trust my life and the lives of family members to, and be able to engage a suspect in a matter of seconds. I know reading these stories on the internet don’t have the impact of being on the scene; but I use it in conversation with friends and family in the hopes it will make them think. Home invaders are a much different criminal that a burglar. They want you to be there and they are fully prepared to engage you when they enter the house. You need to be able to counter a fast attack.

He murdered a kid that was trying to defend himself after being chased down by a nutcase. He also likes to abuse women. He is a punk. Since he obviously also has a death wish; they need to quit putting him in protective custody. Yea sure; he’s being picked on by the press.

Conversation about buying & selling reloads.
DaveTN replied to Sidewinder's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
1. Would you shoot any ammo that's been reloaded by an unknown source? No. 2. Would you allow "just anyone" to shoot ammo that you have reloaded? I don’t reload. 3. What are the liability ramifications when shooting reloads, if someone gets injured? You get sued, and possibly charged with a crime if you are selling them without the proper licenses. 4. Are all reloads safe to shoot, and how do you tell by looking which ones are and which ones aren't? No, and you can’t 5. How should reloads be priced, in relation to factory sealed ammo? If you priced it cheap enough you might have some buyers, but probably not many. 6. How can a potential buyer spot reloads listed on a gun site for sale? They can’t, other than asking. 7. Have you ever known of anyone getting injured shooting someone else's reloads? Not personally, seen the results on forums many times. 8. Have you ever known of someone's gun getting damaged from shooting bad reloads? Yes, bulged the barrel on a S&W Model 66 with a squib. 9. As a reloader, buying used brass, do you just take the seller's word on how many times it's been fired? I’m not a reloader and don’t buy used brass. 10. How can someone not knowledgeable in reloading tell if the reloads they got from someone is too hot of a load for their gun? They can’t. -
Pit Bull's are not to blame for their attacks...owners read !!
DaveTN replied to Ron_TN's topic in General Chat
I don’t care if they are pit bulls, Dobermans, Labs, or poodles; you should not have to be concerned about the safety of your children because of dogs running loose; especially on your own property. Your neighbor is irresponsible and should have his dogs taken away. Unfortunately the dogs have to pay the price for the reckless acts of owners. It shows that we have to have laws because of the people that can’t act responsibly on their own. -
Probably what he was saying to you is that Tennessee is a “physical Control” state. If the keys were on the dash; and you were in the passenger’s seat with no one in the driver’s seat; you were in physical control. Unless there is case law (I don’t know if there is or not in this state) each DA will have their own standards for determining if they will charge DUI. The one I had never heard of until I came to Tennessee was that if you and I are out drinking and have my car and I decide I’m too drunk to drive, if I let you drive and you are drunk; I can also be arrested for DUI if we are stopped. Don't drink and drive seems pretty simple to me.

No, it wasn’t retaliation on my part and it wasn’t them exercising their rights. It was them committing a violation and me exercising discretion. If you read my post you saw that I’m talking about where there is a violation. You have a right not to cooperate when you are caught dead bang and the cop has a right to use your decision in determining how to handle the situation. My point was that your decisions and actions have consequences. Refusing to cooperate or refusing to make a statement is not a magic bullet that will allow you to walk away. As I said I had never asked to search a car I didn’t already have probable cause to search; my request was just a tool in the investigation. Does that mean that everyone that is honest and cooperates with the cops that has something illegal in the car gets a break? Of course not. But how many teenagers have had a cop call their parents or take them home when they were drinking or had a bag of weed instead of towing the car and taking them to jail? I know a few. DUI, Liquor, and drug violations can be career ending charges for some. People (especially young people) need to know that bad choices got them in that situation, so they need to know that when they are standing on that roadside making choices about their future, not cooperating may or may not be the best course of action; they have to live with the consequences. They both should be treated the same? Well welcome to the real world; it doesn’t happen that way.
-
Two areas that I like to talk to young people about; DUI and traffic stops; they deserve to know the truth, not a load of garbage from someone that has never done a traffic stop, doesn’t know the requirements or procedures for a vehicle search, or is a lawyer that wants everyone to refuse and invoke so they can make some money. Parents owe their kids more than telling them to refuse a search or invoke Miranda. There is a time to do that, but it’s the kids future that the dice are being rolled on. You are responsible for your actions; you need to be educated about what happens to make informed decisions. BTW… I’m talking about the situations where there is a violation.
-
That’s not right. I never asked to search a car I didn’t already have probable cause to search. My request was merely conversation to determine how things were going to go down when I found what I was looking for. I had discretion on misdemeanors. If you know you don’t have anything and you want to refuse, that’s fine; do so. But if you have something illegal in the car; you have a choice to make. The difference could be whether a minor in possession of alcohol was released to his parents at the stop location with no charges or the car was towed and they were taken into custody. Same thing with someone with a bag of weed or a gun. Choices; you and the cop together will decide what your future will be. You can cooperate, remain silent, or turn into a roadside lawyer; your call.

Off Duty Officer Accidentally Shoots Self
DaveTN replied to tennesseetiger's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
It’s still just a dwarf planet. But Obama could change that by Executive Order. -
Dogs attack joggers and kids/adults on bikes/motorcycles all the time. Even if they don’t bite; the people can be hurt trying to get away. Allowing dogs to run loose should be a criminal violation. It’s pretty easy to get a civil judgment from them, but most of the people that are that irresponsible don’t have anything to get.

How to Renew your C&R License
DaveTN replied to ironsniper1's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
The CLEO of all counties in Tennessee is the Sherriff, with the exception of Davidson; the CLEO there is the Metro Chief. Your C&R does not require the CLEO to sign off; it is more of a courtesy from the ATF and an opportunity for the CLEO to let the ATF know if you are a nut case. The only requirement is that you send the CLEO in your area a copy. If you are in Davidson County; send it here. What they do with it is their business. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/76389-gun-rights-can-we-make-a-difference-for-tennessee/ It was attempted but lacked the required support. I don’t think it had anything to do with revenue generation. More people would carry, which would mean more people would want an HCP so they could carry in other states. I think the revenue would increase. But it would allow those that can’t afford to buy the privilege from the state to have the same ability to protect their selves and their families those of us who are fortunate enough to be able to afford it have. I don’t buy the “baby steps” nonsense; It is time for Tennessee to enact legislation that recognizes the 2nd amendment as an individual right. (Not just the “keep” part, but the “bear” part also)

This is from a Tennessee DUI attorney website; but I am unsure of Tennessee laws. In the state I was in .08 was a legal presumption, but you could be charged down to .05 with supporting evidence. If you refuse, BAC will not be an issue and you will take the fall anyway.

Like most others; I don't care one way or the other. I don't want a light on a weapon. I too was trained a light is a target. But I also am bringing the bad guy to me (if I am sure someone is there); I'm not going hunting. Like everything though its personal preference and how you were trained and is based on the situation/layout of your home. Our requirements will vary.

I have owned three Dobermans in my life, my last one past a year and a half ago. I was a responsible dog owner, had control of my dog , and controlled who was around him at all times. I have little patience or sympathy for those that do not. The worst are those that allow their dogs to run free off their property. We shouldn't need laws to make them control their dogs, but obviously we do. Any dog can bite, but unless someone is breaking into your home or attacking you; it is your responsibility to make sure it doesn't happen and your liability if it does.
-
Sounds like the only "freak" in this situation was the owners. One paid for his stupidity with his life. This is like carrying a 1911 cocked with the safety off, and then calling it an "accident" when someone gets shot. Deaths by Pit Bulls speak for themselves. Don't own a dog that you can't control if it turns on you or someone else.

No it has to be fit. If you don't fit it properly it might fail.
