Why doesn’t she want a compact, is this a home defense gun? She needs to get some trigger time before trying to select a gun. Even then she will probably be like most of the rest of us; changing guns all the time.
-
Is she anti-gun or was she just making conversation? A lot of people don’t want houses/cars/whatever that have been involved in a death.

Frangible ammo has an application in hostage situations, or situations where over penetration or ricochet could be a problem. Great for steel target shooting. But it’s a terrible choice for defensive ammo.

Ferguson is going to be a dangerous place. Innocent citizens will get caught up in this. Obama and Holder are using their power to further their racist agenda in Ferguson.

No, it depends on the throat erosion and what the muzzle gages. I take it you don’t have a CMP cert, have you checked the “numbers Matching” or is that what he told you?

$630 for a Field Grade, $730 for a Service Grade from CMP. http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/rifle_sales/m1-garand/

They were $500-$600 from CMP. But I know they are low and they may be going for more now. The guys at the gun shows were buying them for around that price and trying to turn them for a grand; I didn’t see many selling at that price. But the supply is becoming less so you might find someone that would give you $1300, but I doubt a store could get anymore for it.

CMP was created by an act of Congress, so I guess you could say they are “The Government”. The Marine Corps didn’t sell rifles. If it came from CMP it should have a cert with it. Hard to say what it’s worth without checking the condition, but if you want to sell it and a gun store offered you $1300; they were offering you a very fair price. If you don’t want to sell to them please post the name of the shop because I’m sure there are some here that would sell theirs for $1300; I know I would.

It a crime to carry a gun in our state; until it becomes a right the state doesn’t have jack to say about what a business does. Us buying a privilege from the state does not trump the rights of property owners. Now if the state wants to recognize it as a right they can start having a say about what businesses do; until then if they are properly posted it’s a criminal offense. Trespass is a misdemeanor for which you can receive jail time. Carrying past a sign is criminal also, but as I understand it; it’s a $500 fine only.

Nevada Couple Denied Right To Foster A Child Because They Have Gun Permits
DaveTN replied to waynesan's topic in General Chat
They aren’t being turned down because they have carry permits, or even guns. The way I read it they are being turned down because the weapons are not secure. The only way they could know that is interviews or home visits. I can’t get too upset with child and family services; they are doing their job. The same people that whine about this would hang them out to dry if something happened. -
Maybe he was just making conversation? What was he asking you about your AR? Did he accuse you of doing something wrong?

If they want to help the poor, they should invest that money into manufacturing in the area that will employ people. Now that the word is out they are passing out money, they will have all kinds of freeloaders, scammers, and criminals from all over the country headed their way. Some of those locals are going to need to take jobs as cops.

It’s been shot (all S&W’s have), 30 years isn’t really old for an S&W revolver, and it’s been polished; shoot it and enjoy it. Properly cared for you could shoot hundreds of rounds and it wouldn’t look any different. Stainless guns can be returned to near new condition unless there is physical damage.

I had mine in the early 80’s. I don’t remember what they cost, but they weren’t a fantastic amount more than a 66 or 686, I think they were around the cost of a 27. It wouldn't have to. My company makes aircraft parts and we make them better than they did in the past. And as far as quality, I can have a part checked on a CMM while they were setting up to check it back in the day. (I know because I was there.)
-
We have the ability to make handguns every bit as good as they did “back in the day”. But the market is price driven. A Python today would cost as much as a high end 1911. Would they sell? You bet. Would they sell enough to justify the tooling costs? Apparently Colt doesn’t think so. But Colt doesn’t appear to be real interested in the civilian market anyway and haven't been for many years.

My point was that the people that believe you shouldn’t have an “assault Rifle” aren’t going to change their mind no matter what “name” you put on it. I think it sounds silly to make an argument that an AR-15 is somehow less deadly than an M-16; it’s an uninformed stance. Yes, my .223 AR is deadly; my .308 AR is even more deadly than an M-16 in the hands of a skilled marksman. But I have a right to have them. I don’t hunt either and I don’t want to have to pretend I do.
-
I don’t let the term assault rifle bother me; that’s what it is. The fact that because it’s not a machine gun somehow makes it less deadly is ridiculous. If anything semi-auto fire will results in more lethal hits. It won’t make any difference to the people that worry about stuff like that. A shooter at elevation above a target rich environment with a scoped heavy caliber bolt action hunting rifle would rack up a bigger body count than an AR or AK shooter. Of course those folks would have hunting rifles banned if they thought they could get it done.

Help Overturn 18 USC 922(o) & NFA
DaveTN replied to JohnC's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
I don’t expect machine guns to be legalized and if they were states would still have a say. I think some legislators might support the legalization of suppressors but I’m not sure how they will break that out of the GCA. The state of Tennessee has addressed suppressors in the Tennessee Firearms Freedom act. No test of that yet, that I have seen. I still live in a state where it is illegal to carry a gun. I’m more concerned about changing that. -
Several of these on GB. The only one that has actually sold went for $3900. They are a novelty piece.

First thing I install is Acronis. Then I do backups as I go before I do something like install a browser that hoses the whole system. Then I can go back to just before my last stupid act without having to reinstall the whole system. Then I have it doing daily incremental backups.

My WAG is that it is a Pre Model 10 made between 1945 and 1948. Open the cylinder and tell us if anything is stamped on the yoke. Post a pic if you can.
-
WAG would be either the extractor rod is backing out, or its bent. Or the yoke is bent. Is the extractor rod tight? Are there any shims in the cylinder?

There will be some people made examples of. Ripping you off is one thing; but when they start ripping the Gov off they will turn the IRS dogs loose on them.
