I believe you are free to do whatever you are ready to take responsibility for. If you want to take action that will get you negative attention from the cops...go for it. If you want to burn a flag in front of American Patriot’s...go for it. We have people of all generations that think their actions are protected or have no consequences; they are wrong.

Concealed Carry on Military Installations - Possibly
DaveTN replied to Omega's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Drinking and guns should not be an issue; it would be a violation. As I understand it DUI now can lead to a discharge; same could apply. There will be stupid incidents that will make the news; same thing happens now and most aren’t young. -
After seeing that video I would have arrested the truck driver for felony aggravated assault and child endangerment and given the other bike rider a warning for misdemeanor battery (although I believe it would be upheld in court as justified). I would have turned around and followed that truck also after he tried to kill me and there is nothing in the law that says that is escalating the situation.

I saw them in 88 at the St. Louis arena. Great show. Neil Peart is the best rock drummer ever. And that’s saying something considering Bonham was with Zeppelin.

Is this the guy you work with? http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/12/06/austin-cop-sure-shot-stopped-crazed-gunman/

Always good to see an American Company. The BeltMan uses Bull hide and they are by far the most popular gun belts made. I would give a company in the leather business the benefit of the doubt; I doubt they would lie about what their belts are made from. Their prices are less than The BeltMan; be interesting to compare side by side.

I think we will be okay with .22, we are seeing it on shelves again. CCI (The only one I care about in .22 ) and Federal among others are owned by ATK. ATK is a monster corporation, if they thought the demand would remain; I’m sure they would make the huge capitol expenditures it would take to increase production. But that would cause them a loss if the demand drops and we are knee deep in .22 ammo. Part of the shortage is because of many new people getting interested in shooting; but most of it is panic buying and some trying to make a buck. It will level out and if the demand stays high I think we will see increased production. But yeah, all you guys switch to air rifles and the rest of us will shoot up your share.

I believe a local FFL could do it on a long gun, but I doubt they will.

Part of my Police training that has stayed with me is that I don’t ever let myself get boxed in in traffic with no way out. Stay in a lane with an escape route and don’t pull up on the car in front of you so close that you can’t cut the wheels and go. We didn’t do it because of a carjacking; we did it in case we got an emergency call we could go. But it will help you in this type scenario. From the narrative that video was part of a series on self-defense. That would require training and practice. But you should always go through scenarios in your mind of how you would handle various situations. Simply having a gun doesn’t protect you if find yourself staring down the barrel of a gun. Think what you would do to stay alive. Don’t assume that all criminals are dirt bags with no training; they may have far more training than you. Cops, trained Military and self-defense experts get killed all the time.

Has a small issue yesterday in Cookville!
DaveTN replied to bersaguy's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Doesn’t matter if his gun left the holster or not, and it’s not about filing a Police Report or trying to have someone arrested. The advice given by most here is so others can maybe stay out of jail or court. If I had been dispatched to one of those kids homes and their parents were going nuts because someone threatened their kid with a gun (That’s what he said he did), and I was only able to get one side of the story; I would have put out a pick-up on him for aggravated assault. Once I went home and he was stopped; he would have been arrested and jailed. If he wasn’t stopped in the area, a felony warrant would have been issued and his hometown PD could pick him up. I had discretion in misdemeanors; I didn’t on felonies. However if I believed he was justified; no crime was committed and everyone goes about their business. But that can only happen with both sides present. No, they wouldn’t have done anything to the kids if he had called; they hadn’t done anything wrong. But nothing would have happened to him either. In this specific incident the point is moot because the cops have not contacted him. But maybe it will help others. As a former cop I can tell you the first to call is the complainant the second to call is the suspect. But if both parties can be dealt with at the same time; it may not need to go any farther. Hope this helps. Just arm chair quarterbacking as that’s what we do here. I assume that’s what he wanted or he wouldn’t have posted the story. -
I agree he is getting off easy. If his threats were creditable he should be going to prison for the rest of his life. Everyone gets charged with some kind of “terrorist” type stuff anymore. This is a clear cut case of it, so I would guess he may have some mental problems (other than the obvious) that caused the deal. Facebook? Really? Freedom of speech does not cover threating to kill people; we need to either start throwing these azzhats in jail or sending them to the mental wards. Did he have an M4 or an AR?

Can the POST commission not give you the info on where to qualify? You will need to do it every year. Requirements: https://www.tn.gov/sos/rules/1110/1110-10.20100616.pdf Guns & Leather has a LEOSA class that I would assume is a qualification. You might want to call them. http://gandlacademy.com/classes/leosa-class/

I have no idea if the information on this page is correct or not; but it addresses your questions and makes reference to the laws. http://www.identityhawk.com/Who-Can-Lawfully-Request-My-Social-Security-Number Or from the DOJ... http://www.justice.gov/opcl/social-security-number-usage

I read this this morning and didn’t comment because I think my info may be outdated. I went through boot camp and Machinist School there in 71/72. Things have probably changed.

I’ll take that bet. But we need to find someone to volunteer to get shot with both and not call the cops.... And no crying!

I thought they collected road kill because a deer may not be safe to eat if it’s been hit by a car?? But then I hear about giving them to shelters....what’s up? Back on topic.... I would shoot a deer if it was suffering and take my chances.

Has a small issue yesterday in Cookville!

Because if one of those kids called the cops and said a guy threatened them with a gun and gave a plate; he would have either been stopped and arrested or picked up on a warrant. When the cops only have one side of the story; they act on what they have. The rest will come out in court. I don’t disagree with what he did, but he sure put himself at risk of arrest by leaving. -
Taxes were paid on the computer you used to take a poll, or the paper it was written on, the pens and pencils used to write with, the internet access, the books you buy. If you speak publically and use any equipment; you will probably pay tax on it. Other than the .010 a box tax on ammo in this state that goes to the TWRA I don’t see any more tax on guns than anything else. I don’t hunt or go traipsing around in the woods; but I’m okay with that tax. Maybe I should feel that the Hunters and Tree huggers should pay their own way; but I don’t. I’m not getting hot on you. I just hate to hear people claim rights they do not have. Carrying firearms in this state is illegal. The state does not recognize the 2nd amendment as an individual right and they have claimed States Rights in doing so. You have the right to “keep” arms; you do not have the right to “bear” arms in this state. I support States Rights, but don’t support gun control. So until the state of Tennessee decides to recognize the 2nd amendment as a right for all; you do not have that right. We pay around .40 a gallon tax on gas. That is robbery and impacts the costs of all things. But I doubt much will be done to reduce that.

There is plenty of front door, in your face gun control going on. You don’t have to look for it where it doesn’t exist. :) Plenty of folks can’t afford to buy their gun privileges from the state, but I don’t see them getting a break.

Sheriff's employees may have profited during ammo shortage
DaveTN replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
They didn’t get the County discount, and no County funds were used. So all this is about the fact that they may have used County computers during working hours to make the contacts? Who hasn’t done that at one time or another? Is it a violation to be on the net on those computers? RCSO has some big problems but I doubt this is one of them. If they were violating tax laws; they need to deal with that. But then there will be a bunch of people caught up in the investigation. I find it interesting that we watched a video of Deputies embellish a K9 hit on a car for PC to search and the Sherriff approved their actions. But we are supposed to be upset because the Sherriff’s family is involved in a business with the jail, or some Deputies bought some ammo on-line. Some people’s priorities are messed up. -
Have you got a target revolver yet? If you need sights on a J-frame…. Don’t take the shot.

As has been stated, Tennessee law doesn’t address “open” or “concealed” carry because it does not differentiate between the two. Open carry is perfectly legal anywhere you can legally carry. Does that mean you won’t be stopped, have people call the Police, or be asked to leave a business? No. Carrying a gun in this state is a privilege you buy from the state; not a recognized right from the Constitution. If you don’t feel comfortable with what you are reading here; stop by your local PD or Sheriff Department and have a talk with a Command Officer. I’m sure they will be willing to fill you in.

What political gain? Zimmerman should be in prison.

Despite new law, guns still banned at Memphis in May
DaveTN replied to The Legion's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
While the park is “leased” is it no longer open to the public for free? Who is responsible for injuries that occur during the event? Responsibility and control will be the questions a court would have to answer. However, I doubt anyone will sue; because they will have no loss.
