  1. You didn’t. Like the rest of us you spent your time defending the rights of the American people. I blame Congress. They have stood by and watched this dictator wannbe spin out of control, trying his best to destroy this country. The Democratic Party is united and is targeting those that are voting their paychecks freeloading off the government and have probably never served. The working people that think the way we do are split with special interests and divided parties. God help us.
  2. When we have to allow a disgusting group like WBC to hold protests at funerals; we truly have misinterpreted the Constitution and the intent of our founding Fathers. Send them the message that they have been barred from these funerals and if they show up they will be arrested and jailed.
  3. I could care less where or how he got his guns, or what type of gun he used. Gun control, arming the military on base, nothing will stop a person set on killing a bunch of people. Most of these shooters know they are going to die; and are okay with that. It’s simply a matter of how many people they kill before someone kills them. Of course the anti-guns nuts are going to use this. But you know what? It’s not working. We aren’t having our gun rights reduced; they are being expanded most everywhere you look. Illinois now has carry and Tennessee allows carry in a car without an HCP. I think most people, even if they don’t want to carry, understand that the risk of being in a mass shooting is increasing; they want some chance other than waiting on the Police to respond. I see the only chance of being able to slow this down is for law enforcement to be proactive instead of having to wait for a shooter to start dropping bodies.
  4. I’m pretty sure the Whitehouse is well aware of the shootings on military installations. A petition at Whitehouse.gov is kinda silly. But hey, it may work! Obama sees 100k people think the military should be able to carry and he does something about it. Sure... Is there some kind of Federal law limiting Base Commanders on who they can allow to carry?
  5. The internet has changed how most things are bought and sold. You need to have good internet skills. It’s not logical to be pizzed at the seller. If they can find someone to buy it; so be it. If they can’t; it will sit. Not that many years ago I was going through a lot of used guns; it gave me the opportunity to try a lot of different ones. Now I pretty much just buy new. Too many people running a gun business as a hobby. If you see a gun at a price you like, you better move on it right then or they will jump on it and you will see it back up at a higher price. I’ve also had good luck a couple of times using the WTB option. I’ve had people contact me with reasonable prices on guns that weren’t listed or forum members giving me a heads up on who had good deals on new.
  6. I’ve said it many times before and I’ll repeat it again... The only way to stop an active shooter is with another shooter. When will people learn? Prayers to the family’s.
  7. What was the courts disposition of the firearms after he was convicted? What does the DA say about the guns? I doubt the cops can release the guns in a criminal case without the court or the DA authorizing it. But I don’t know that for sure about this state. That’s and easy one to find out; go to the PD that took them and ask for them back. He may not get an answer he likes, but he should get an answer or an explanation of the procedure. If the cops or the DA can’t give him a direction he will need to talk to an attorney. There is no way any of us could know if he can get his guns back or if any court rulings apply to him if we don’t know the details of the case.
  8. No, they were complaining about its inability to make an armed opponent unable or unwilling to fire his weapon at them. Same for the 9.
  9. I don’t have any experience with it, but when word gets out there probably won’t be any left. A lot of folks can justify anything if it’s cheap.
  10. Then unless you are a lawyer looking for a payday, or an anti-gun activist looking to lay blame; how he got a gun is really a moot point isn’t it?
  11. AutoCAD is one of the things we need to run, but it’s a kitten compared to CATIA and PC-DMIS. We don’t use AutoCAD for much except detailing shop drawings, the version we have is pretty old, it will run in 7 but not 8. I don’t remember what the issues were when I tried CATIA in 8, I think it installed but wouldn’t run, not sure. Runs fine in 7. We have maintenance on it and could probably get it to run in 8, but all our PC’s are 7 Pro.
  12. When they traced the gun. I think that story was from family or friends that said his Dad bought him a gun for his birthday. His Dad may have given him money, but it seems pretty clear at this time that the killer bought the gun.
  13. I don’t think we have enough information from reliable sources to know what happened; but we will. At first I thought the FBI wouldn’t admit making a mistake unless they made one (the questions surrounding the arrests/convictions/accusations) with plenty of folks looking for someone to sue other than the only person responsible. But then I thought maybe they would if they think it would help their agenda to toughen up background checks, increase their budget, or help with gun control. After all, if they are sued they don’t have to pay the money; we do. I've never seen an answer to: Does SC have private party gun sales with no background check or permits required?
  14. Driver’s License, HCP, and THP all are under Department of Safety and Homeland Security.
  15. We use some software that just won’t run in Windows 8 and isn't supported for 8 without an upgrade.     I have thought about it. It’s been a long time since I’ve tried to use a VM but it wasn’t good for running graphic intensive CAD and solid modeling; ran like a slug. Has that changed? Is there a free VM? I already am finding that I'm going to have to spend more on Windows 7 than I told him. So spending more money on a VM to run it won't help?
  16. It’s an MSI gaming Laptop, it appears they have all the drivers available on their website and may even have them (Win 7) on a recovery partition even though this is Win 8 (still checking that out). Another OS isn’t an option. I’m doing this for a friend because he wants to run versions of CAD\CAM programs that won’t run in 8. I’ve seen all kinds of legitimate deals for Win 7 Pro cheap in the past (Newegg, etc.); now that I need it I can’t find any.
  17. My window AC unit came with a sheet showing the size opening and how to build a support for an installation where there wasn’t a window. I will assume you don’t have a window, so that’s about your only option.
  18. I need to put Windows 7 Professional SP1 on a laptop that has Windows 8.1. I can’t do the Microsoft “downgrade” because the 8.1 isn’t PRO. Since retail support ended in January all I can find (at a reasonable cost) is OEM or system builders versions. (Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack (For Refurbished PC Installation). Can I do a clean install with that after I format the drive? I’m not clear on the limitations of this? I found it on Amazon for $79. Everything else I have found is around $140. Anyone know of better prices?
  19. Hindsight is 20/20 and armchair quarterbacking is what we do. From the way I’m reading that account our card carrying badazz had a gun in his hand (inside the purse) and waited to see if the guy was leaving. He didn’t need to get shot. But.... other than the three bullet holes in him it all worked out.
  20. All you have arguing about it is people with a “Special agenda interest”. The facts will come out, but we don’t have them now.
  21. Why is this big deal? Does SC not have private gun sales? Was there disqualifying information that the FBI had at the time of the purchase? I’m sick of seeing everything and everyone blamed for this. The perpetrator is the only one to blame. He is a nut case and there couldn’t have been much done if that fact had been known. Wringing of hands and “What could we do?” Give me a break. Nothing can be done unless we are willing to make it a crime to make violent threats against non-specific individuals. I don’t have a problem with that; it’s not protected by free speech. Though I’m sure that will cause some folks heads to explode.
  22. You must be; I see it.
  23. They missed the important story. That guy was a small child at the end of the war. How did he get a tank and an AA gun? Were they hidden at his house by the Germans? Did his family take them during the war? Unless the guy did something to it himself; that AA gun looks pretty functional. Museums would pay a lot for those. The old guy should get the money. But of course the government will lay claim to them.
  24. Yeah, what type of work are you going to be needing? What caused you to pick Tennessee?
  25. What? The military needs to do something to improve the 9mm? Say it ain’t so Joe, say it ain’t so!
