They approved the act, but I will be shocked (and it takes a lot to shock me) to see the Obama administration release 100K handguns to the streets. I don’t think he has realized it yet, and he won’t let it happen when he does.

What killed them?
-
I just can’t imagine how intelligent people believe that background checks will have any impact. I think eventually they stop private sales without background checks; and the killings will continue. Farrok; like most of the other shooters would not have been stopped by a background check. So what will stop these people? Well it won’t be gun control, and they aren’t afraid to die for their beliefs, so obviously the threat of death or jail doesn’t impact them. Stopping their shooting spree immediately is the only thing that will lessen the body count. That will require some type of force. An active shooter needs to be made unwilling or unable to fire his weapon. What part of that do these people not understand? How can they believe they can stop anyone from getting guns? If we had a way to do that wouldn’t we have done it with drugs? Drugs kill a lot more Americans than shooters.

I think for most of us it has nothing to do with what a lawyer will say and everything to do with performance. Federal Hydra-shoks have been proven performers for nearly 30 years; you couldn’t have a better carry round. Any round could FTF, but I have never seen it happen with a Hydra-shok. It was the department issued round when I was a cop many years ago and I still use it today. There are some others out there that may perform as well; but I have no reason to switch. I buy reloads from Freedom munitions; because its proven range ammo, but I wouldn’t carry it. I wouldn’t use reloaded ammo from an individual because I would be concerned about it not firing or damaging my weapon. Reloaders get to experiment with loads, but they are kidding themselves if they think they are more reliable than the top manufacturers of ammo. We see the stories here all the time of mistakes. If you think seriously about having to have your life depend on your weapon and your ammo performing flawlessly; you probably want the best performance you can afford to buy in both. I know I do.

Only a very few. Mainly we make large structural components; bulkheads, ribs, beams, etc.

How to thank an officer for going far beyond the C.O.D.?
DaveTN replied to Randall53's topic in General Chat
Good for you; I’m sure the Officer will appreciate whatever you do. -
Yes, we mainly make large 5 axis parts for Gulfstream, Lockheed, Airbus and Bombardier. I tell people we create paperwork, and occasionally make an airplane part.

Ha Ha Ha,same here. I’ve worked in the industry most of my life; I have to smile when I see all the “CNC” stuff, “CAD Designed” or “Aircraft Grade Aluminum”. However…. I have to disagree with you on the “things aren’t made like they use to be” idea. Things are made exactly the way the manufacturer wants them or the way the price of the product dictates. Guns are very good example. You get what you pay for. The cheaper a gun the more popular it will be and the more forgiving the reviews will be. My company makes aircraft parts. You would not believe the checks, documentation and certification that go into those parts. That costs a lot and takes a lot of man hours on top of the hours the part is actually being machined. Machinist, Toolmaker, Moldmaker, etc. is a dying breed; the tech schools are putting out machine operators and too many of the companies don’t have training for them once they start work. I suspect that will cost us dearly later.
-
That’s may all be true, but why would you want a CNC mill for finishing an 80% lower? CNC is not always the best tool for the job; it could be done on a manual knee mill while a CNC was being programmed. And chances of him finding someone that would do the job or let him do it on a manual mill are a lot better.
-
Look for someone that works in a small shop or has a knee mill or even a good drill press in their garage. You don’t need CNC or CAD files. I doubt you will find any machine shop owners that will risk the liability of letting you do your own, but it shouldn’t be that hard to find someone that will do it for you.

If it's family it's a family issue; not a gun issue. Deal with it. If it's not family you respect the owners wishes or you don't enter. One of the Southern states (can't remember which one) requires that you notify the home owner before carrying into a private home. We don't need to have that law added here because some can't respect the homeowners wishes.

People who would open fire on someone in their driveway would be in prison. Walking out to a vehicle in your driveway at night; you are either not in fear or you are suicidal. If they were there to hurt you; you would have zero chance of survival, leaving the rest of your family to deal with them. It's no wonder the laws on the use of deadly force keep getting harder to justify using it when you need to. I heard that!

t's called impeding traffic and its been around in other states for years. I would take out a driver impeding traffic over a 10 MPH speeder any day. If you aren't moving with the flow of traffic get over in the right lane where you belong. It causes people to start jockeying for position to get around someone blocking traffic; and has more potential to cause an accident. The other thing that gets me is that some of them are just inconsiderate azzhats that get to cause a problem; but many of them are talking on a cell phone and are completely oblivious to whats going on around them. $50 isn't enough though; those people should get a ticket that hurts. It's a shame that there have to be laws that make people comply with whats right. Think how much less stress there would be in the world if people drove with courtesy and respect for other drivers. :)

Gun Rights groups going after Gun Free Zones!!!
DaveTN replied to bersaguy's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I hate to see property owners and gun owners pitted against each other over rights (gun owners) they do not have. The state of Tennessee has decided that it is a crime for anyone to carry a gun in public, except those they deem acceptable. The state is the one violating your 2nd amendment right; not the business. HCP classes in this state are for information and in no way make a person any safer than your average gun owner for carry. The only way the state is going to tell business owners they can't ban carry is if they exempt those businesses from lawsuits when people get shot. Of course the attorneys don't want to do that. Years ago I would say it defies common sense that a business that bans the carry of deadly weapons could be sued for something hurt on their property. However in this day and age; who knows. The only winners here will be the attorneys. City, County, state, and Federal buildings would have to be opened to carry if one of these suits were successful; that won't happen. What's next? Your employer has to allow you to carry in the workplace? Never happen. If I were a business owner I would close my business and move out of state before I let a thug state government that outlaws carry (except to those who pay them) tell me I had to allow anyone to carry a gun on my property. -

Norton blocked a malicious attack when I clicked on that link. -
Eotech has stood on their own merits against Aimpoint, Trijicon and others. I doubt the government filing a lawsuit against them will change anything. Cheap Eotech's? Like to see them sell againist that. That wouldn't make the competition very happy.

If you are trying to get an HCP here and the county clerk (or the equivalent) in the country where you were arrested says they don’t have anything; I would call the TBI and see what they tell you. Obviously you were arrested, apparently you were not charged. I would guess your problem is that arrest records were sent to the Feds, but “Dismissed” was never sent. No one gets rid of arrest records; especially one that is only five years old, I don’t think you have talked to the proper person there. FOIA isn’t going to do you any good; you need someone that can do follow-up. If the TBI can’t tell you what agency is reporting; I would try this next.

A couple of weekends ago I had a puncture in a tire that could not be repaired. It was a Cooper CS4 that I didn’t know at the time had been discontinued. I was out going to places and couldn’t believe that some tire stores were closed on Saturday. I bought the tires at Sears but they didn’t have them in stock, they said they could order it. I needed it that day. The wife was calling around and called Discount Tire, they told her they could order it and when she told them I needed it that day; they told her to tell me to come in and they would put a used tire on that would be safe until the new tire came in; that’s what they did. Tires are like guns to me; I know what I want and it’s just a matter of finding the best price on that particular item. I replace my tires every 50K, so next time I will find out if they have the best price. They told me on Saturday the tire would be there Wednesday; it didn’t come in until the following Monday. That pissed me off a little until I found out it was discontinued; so I guess that’s okay.

This. And so can a Probation Officer. When you agree to probation you give up some rights and privileges. A long time ago someone posted a link to a site that listed the people that had been refused and why. I remember seeing several possession of marijuana charges on there. I assume they were misdemeanor charges or the reason would have been convicted felon.

I agree. I have a DPMS GEN 1 AP4 LR-308 Carbine that won the NRA Golden Bullseye Award for Rifle of the Year in 2006. I bought mine in 2007 and it’s been a great rifle, no problems, and almost as accurate as my Remington VLS 308 bolt. I have a pretty good collection of M&P handguns and rifles. I want to add the M&P 10 to the collection, but I want a heavy barrel and a quad rail on it from the factory.

Thinking about moving from .40 to 9mm ...
DaveTN replied to Peace's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
It’s always been true; that has never changed. What has changed is manufacturers saying it’s okay, and Gunsmith’s who have no experience with it or any background in machining and metallurgy putting their comments on the net with zero experience. I talked with an old time gunsmith for one of the largest manufactures in this country. He told me he hated it, but their company policy was changed to answer that question with “Yes its okay, if you damage your gun dry firing it we will fix it for free.” He said that came from another manufacturer saying it was okay when they knew it’s not. The bottom line is that it can be explained; but it won’t do any good if someone wants to do it and is looking for someone to tell them its okay. Will it hurt your weapon to dry fire it occasionally, like testing the trigger pull or release? No. Will it damage it to do it hundreds or thousands of times in practice? Possibly, as possibly it will fail when you need it the most. Is it rare? Sure because most people take better care of their weapons than to do that. -

DaveTN replied to Peace's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
9mm is a proven round; the military and many Police Departments use it. But it has never been a “better” round than the .40 without a qualifier. Your qualifier seems to be your wife wants it. “Girly Round”.... that’s as good as reason as any. I guess if you don’t think 45% increase in mass and 27% increase in surface area (before expansion) will make a difference; go for it. Absolutely shot placement is the key. Have you been able to do it in real life? But shot placement doesn’t really have anything to do with caliber choice; physics does. -

GunTV shopping channel to start its shows in January
DaveTN replied to Pete123's topic in General Chat
Here are my questions for those that may know. It appears to me the big issue in buying guns is inventory? The price of used guns is near that of new; (The only reasons that can happen is because new guns aren’t available, the buyers can’t pass a background check and will pay more, or the buyers don’t want a record of the transaction.) so I mostly just buy new anymore. I want to buy locally, but usually can’t. Either they don’t have what I want and tell me they can order it but have no idea when or if they will get it, or their price is much too high. On a $500 gun I’ll pay $30 or $40 more to buy it locally (although there is no reason for the extra cost to be there) but I won’t pay the $100 or more some of them want. Isn’t there a level of cost that doesn’t need to be there? Why do Distributors need to be involved; that adds no value to us, the end users? Will this TV show be able to get guns? And if manufactures need to move more product; why don’t they ship directly to the local FFl’s? That way the local FFL could place an order and have a projected shipment date instead of tying the hands of the FFL by making them go through a distributor that really doesn’t want to mess with that. I don’t need to see and touch a gun to buy it so I hope this TV show works out. If they have the guns I want and the best prices; I will order. However, I wish my local shop could get inventory and be price competitive. I don’t think they will be able to stay in business doing transfers; but I could be wrong. 1AM to 5AM? Thank goodness for DVR. I hope you can order the next day.
