Obama told the Men in Black (or maybe the Chinese) to shut it down.

ATF Copying 4473 information in bulk
DaveTN replied to FreedomGunCo's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Sounds like BS to me. If they were going to do it they would just have the FFL submit it. -
That's why I would like to carry a full sized scoped rifle. If I can see the shooter; I can take him out. Even in CA I don't think a shooter would be out in traffic shooting for long before he caught a bullet in the head.

Shots fired at Academy on Kingston pike cedar Bluff.
DaveTN replied to G27ATT's topic in General Chat
That sounds pretty serious. -
I’m trying to buy a new truck this week to take advantage of all the big year end discount they are claiming. You would think as aggressive as these salesmen are they would respond to my requests. But when I email them with want I want all get back is a canned “Hey, come on down” email with no specific inventory listed.

I talk to a lot of officials and legislators in Illinois. I tell them to look at the Constitutional carry states; Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Maine, Vermont and Wyoming. With some of the Illinois court rulings; they could be the next state added to that list. Tennessee and Kentucky are not on that list.

The Smith & Wesson 617 is a K-frame Model 66 just with smaller holes in the cylinders and barrel. The 66 isn’t made anymore, but the 617 carries the same MSRP as a 686. It uses the same grips and holsters as a K/L frame. I think it is a great choice for those that have K/L frames that want cheap trigger time or want to train with a full size revolver. Ruger is doing the same thing for their revolver shooters, except I see the .22 barrel is .5” shorter than the .357 and .2” overall. So something besides the barrel is different. I also see they priced the .22 at $829, the same MSRP as the 617 and 686, but the .357 is $50 less. IMO they should have made it the same size and cost. But it still will probably be a hit with Ruger users.

I wanted a S&W 617 because it was a full size that could give me cheap trigger time for revolver practice. This will be a big hit with Ruger revolver shooters.

If this is true this guy should never walk free again. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/san-bernardino-shooters-friend-enrique-marquez-charged-with-aiding-plot/ar-BBnFZo7?ocid=spartandhp

There is a thread on arfcom with a bunch of folks that have sent theirs in for refund. They received an email that says they will be refunded “as soon as possible”. I’m thinking about doing this, but that could mean they are waiting until the court case is settled. It could be a long time.

Are you going to get busted refinishing or repairing stocks? No, we all know plenty of people that are selling guns as a business; they haven’t been busted. Is an FFL required to be legal for what you want to do? Yes, regardless of how many guns you sell. The BATF can inspect the area of your home you define as the business. Can they search your house? If they suspect you of something they will get a warrant and search whatever they like; license or not. I have a C&R and it would not help you with what you want to do. Since you are doing all this research, go have a chat with your codes department and let us know how that goes. I suspect it will end right there. If it doesn’t I doubt the BATF will be any problem. Good luck.

An 01 FFL only costs $200 (or did) I think many of here would gladly pay that. I know I would...in a heartbeat. But it isn’t the BATF that stops most of us; it’s the local laws.

I wouldn’t waste the money for sights on that gun. Don’t get me wrong I like the M&P C and have one, but they aren’t target guns. When you get a target gun (and you will) then get some good sights. And then I certainly wouldn’t pay much for sights that aren’t adjustable. Point instinct shooting doesn’t require sights. Do you practice that?
-
Off that list I’d go with the Ruger SR. But if I was doing that I’d look at the M&P Shield or M&P9/40C. Is that a model 15?

I can’t remember buying any that didn’t have two, and if I was buying a LEO SKU; three.

Does anyone here paint motorcycles or have someone they would recommend in the MidState area that does? I just reacquired a 1976 Kawasaki KZ900 that I owned 25 years ago. The last person that had it painted it with a spray can. These are highly desirable collectables, but not painted with a spray can and a skull on the gas tank. I say vintage or not because I haven’t decided if I am going to paint it the original color or the color I want. It is my understanding that the original paint although still available isn’t used anymore and is special order with a two color coat (Diamond Brown). That probably involves me sending the parts off to someone. If I decide not to go original I’ll have it painted high gloss black, which should cost much less and any motorcycle painter should be able to do. It would be painting the tank, two side covers and tail. This isn’t it, I haven’t seen it for years (and bought it sight unseen), but this what it would like original.

Heads up about the owner of Shooter's Depot in Chattanooga
DaveTN replied to Junkstack's topic in General Chat
I wouldn’t go to a gun show if I was a felon wanting to buy a gun; too many cops around. I would just find them locally on the various websites and Facebook. This isn’t about gun shows; it’s about banning private sales. What laws does John Martin think are being violated at gun shows? -
President Obama declared a state of martial law, what if.
DaveTN replied to RED333's topic in General Chat
I feel confused. Is this a discussion? Or did this come to you in a dream? -
My opinion (which is worth what you are paying for it) is that it would be in the way (unless you are shooting at an indoor range with a platform in front of you). There was plenty of time to reload mags in the class I went to. Shouldn’t be a problem if it’s someone that has problems loading a mag; of course I’m sure it’s up to the instructor.

No. Cops are a curious bunch; it’s their job, and they rely on the help of citizens to do it. No one is suggesting that cops stop these people and ship them off to Gitmo. But we (citizens) have enemies trying to kill us. Cops have ROE that they go by. Nothing in those rules stops them from talking to people. You learn a lot when you talk to people. The people that are stopped have rights. They are free to ask “Am I being detained?” “Am I free to go” “Am I under arrest”. Based on RAS or PC; cops will answer those questions, “Yes/No you are being detained?” “Yes/No you free to go” “Yes/No you are under arrest”. Most of the time you can tell if someone is up to something or trying to hide something. Actionable? Depends on the circumstances, and it will be determined by a DA or Judge if those actions were proper. Nothing in our Constitution requires a cop to put his life in danger, and nothing in our constitution requires them to stand by and wait when citizens are in danger. We aren’t talking about some pot head that might have a bag or weed; we are talking about a person that may be planning on talking the lives of a lot of innocent people. Our freedoms are intact. Our founding Fathers never intend for good men to stand by and no nothing. That’s why they use the word “unreasonable” in the fourth amendment.

Having a bad leg and having to maneuver himself around with his arms had obviously made his wrists and arms strong enough that he could handle the incredible power of the 40S&W. Many lesser men would have had to step down to the weak azz 9mm, which they can handle without limp wristing. Glad things work out for him.

I have a DPMS Panther LR-AP4 in .308. It has been a very reliable rifle that is accurate. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it has a front sight post. I would like to add the M&P10 to my collection of M&P’s but have been waiting for the heavy barrel with a quad rail. I would suggest that whatever you get; you get the configuration you want from the factory. Buying parts for AR10’s costs a lot more than AR15’s. I assume that is because there is no standard (Mil-Spec) and their sales are less. I don’t think you can build an AR-10 right now for what you can buy a compete rifle for.

Why is hollow point ammo more expensive than FMJ?
DaveTN replied to jgradyc's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Someone has to pay for all those attorneys fighting the hollow point bans. Just kidding, as stated above it’s the manufacturing, materials and R&D. It’s more than just a hole in the end of the round. (Although I have seen some that was nothing more than a hole in the end of the round.) -
Care to explain why? (Just kidding) The best shooters in the world (which I am not one) have differing opinions on this. I never use the slingshot method unless I’m clearing a problem. I never want my hand on the slide as it’s trying to go into battery.

No, I can assure you that cops don’t need to wait until a crime is committed to investigate suspicious activity. Court isn’t held on the street and it’s just a case where cops get to be proactive instead of reactive. They can be detained for investigation without being arrested. They have declared war on us on our homeland. We can stand around and wring our hands or we can do something about it. Apples and oranges. You will always have someone upset if the feds track firearm purchases; even when a Middle Eastern man makes multiple purchases at once or in a short period of time. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be investigated. And it doesn’t mean he won’t start dropping bodies after it is investigated. It means they do what they can do. If they feel their rights have been violated they have the same recourse you do; get a lawyer and deal with it.
