What's in your pocket most often?
DaveTN replied to Handsome Rob's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I have never been a knife guy; I have always been the guy bringing the gun. But now that I am old I find a need to have something to open all the packaging they use now. I have some nice knives and recently got some low cost auto knives, but I don’t carry them; too big or too heavy. I do carry a Gerber Mini Paraframe with me all the time. $10 most anywhere, super sharp and well made. Heck of a deal. http://www.gerbergear.com/Activity/Everyday/Knives/Paraframe-Mini-Knife_22-48485 -
I don’t have any experience with this; so just a question. I always thought a dissertation was to test your knowledge on a subject, your ability to put your thoughts on paper and your ability to do the research. Is that not correct? What does a consulting service do for you?

If you drive a Land Rover you would have the help pick that stuff up.

Exactly. I would never do anything to take away from an American manufacturer, but when we already have a better product it would be crazy to build AK’s here and put a giant price tag on them for the government. The CIA has no problem with bending (or breaking) laws to fit their needs and then saying it is the name of “National Security”. So have them buy a boat load of AK’s from Russia, China, or even North Korea; I don’t care. I’m sure Obama will sign an EO to allow them to do an end run around his EO. He has no problem doing an end run around the Constitution; I see no problem with this.

I think most of them want to sell; but don’t know how to. They get so use to tire kickers that they don’t know how to handle it when they talk to or get an email from someone that says they are ready to buy today. At least that is how I appeared to me. Most are unfamiliar with the inventory and unfamiliar with the vehicles and their options. Maybe if they spent more time on the lot learning what they have and less time cold calling people that aren’t interested; they could close deals. (Just my opinion) This is 2016, we can easily find the prices and who is offering the best deals at the time. With me it was just finding the truck I wanted. I sold cars many years ago; I would hate to be doing it today. I bet the turnover is pretty high and the quality of salesman is pretty low. The internet has helped us locate and price; not much for the Salesman to do but deliver the vehicle and write up the paperwork. I sat in the Chevy showroom in Murfreesboro and wanted to shout out “Does anyone here want to sell a loaded Silverado today?” I didn’t though, like most buyers I just moved on to another dealer. I enjoy buying new vehicles though; it’s still fun.

So the CIA and SOCOM are worried that if their allies will have weapons that work, it may make them targets, so their plan is to make AK’s here instead of giving them rifles better than the POS AK? And then stick us with a big azz bill to make junk? Sounds like something the government would come up with.No thank you.

Certainly States have Rights. They just have to be willing to stand up for them. Caving to 55MPH speed limits to get your Federal money is a lot different than letting the Feds tell you whether you can/can’t carry guns. The Tennessee Firearms freedom act hasn’t been tested either. The state says its law and the Feds say they will arrest violators. Someone has to fold; right now it’s the state.

We knew it was coming to this. The SCOTUS didn’t do their job. They split the 2nd in half and didn’t address “Bear Arms”. They didn’t do it (IMO) because they knew there would be states that would not comply no matter which way they ruled. They may address “concealed” and still not answer the question…. “Can everyone in this country strap on a gun and walk down the street?” The answer is “No” it violates States Rights. I’m a staunch supporter of States Rights. The worst war our nation has fought was fought over States Rights. The 2nd violates States Rights. The Feds are not responsible for local law enforcement so they don’t get to tell you whether you can carry a gun in public or not. If California wants to tell their citizens they can’t carry guns, and Tennessee wants to tell theirs they can; that is exactly what is going to happen. We have had great success in gun privileges/rights lately, and have blocked the libs attempt to legislate unreasonable bans. But forcing states like CA and NY to allow carry? Not going to happen; and they would not comply. I believe I have a basic inalienable right to carry a gun; I do not believe that right comes from the 2nd amendment. The state of Tennessee agrees with me (somewhat, although they call it a privilege and want paid).

I have driven Chevy’s all my life. But I don’t give the Ford guys a hard time anymore, it could be worse;they could be driving rice.

I don’t know about Toyota, but when I purchased my last two new Chevrolets, I emailed the local dealers with what I wanted. Only two dealers emailed me back with specific vehicles they had, the rest responded with their standard “Come on down” BS. I told them I was buying in the next two days; which I did. Walker Chevrolet in Franklin got both sales. I don’t know that the salesman would want his name posted here, but if anyone wants to know they can message me. The first one was a dealer locate that came out of Alabama. He asks me to come to the lot and he would show me the exact vehicle I would be getting, only in a different color. We did that, made a deal and he had the vehicle the next day. It doesn’t cost you anymore for a dealer locate. They send them a vehicle they want and drive yours back. On the second new vehicle years later, he emailed me back that he had three vehicles that met my request. He took the time to email me the specifics and then called and asks if we could set up a time to come in and see them. We did that and when we got there he had the three vehicles at the front of the showroom ready for test drives. We drove one home. I am sure you can find what you want in a dealer and salesman. I just find it odd that they spend so much time and money trying to get leads and then when you contact them and say “I’m ready to buy today” most seem so unprepared.

NPR attacks Katie Couric's Anti-gun Documentary
DaveTN replied to Moped's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Did you have eggs and tomatoes thrown at you? Were you spit on? I served during Vietnam. Not once was I disrespected walking through an airport. When I went out at home in uniform; I couldn’t pay for a drink. Do I think that may have happened at protests or anti-war rallies? Sure, but the American people did not disrespect our military; at least not that I saw while in uniform in public. But then I wasn’t going to be spat on or have eggs thrown at me by anyone. And I also didn’t go for a walk in uniform around any anti-war protests. Yes, the press can make some people believe whatever they want. But it doesn’t always require the press either; I know people that don’t believe Sandy Hook happened and that we didn’t land on the moon. Some people will believe anything, but that doesn’t mean most of us with at least average intelligence fall in line. -

You would never get a conviction from a jury for anyone involved other than the gun sellers. (This is why I require a state issued ID for gun sales; state of residence and age is on me) -

The press lying or misleading the public is done every day. Just listen to the sound bites for the evening news. It is done on this forum every day; it’s what we do. We all put our own spin on the story based on our beliefs. Many issues are discussed where we are totally clueless to what truly happened; but we fill in the blanks based on how we want the story to end. When you start editing video and audio; it is no longer credible. Yet we see it done here routinely. It is up to the individual to find the facts… if they really care. If they don’t care, then they do the same thing the press does; put their spin on it and call it a day. Lying being illegal? However; it is covered by civil laws if it damages someone. There are some criminal charges, lying to the cops (That wasn’t against the law when I was a cop, but I guess it is now?) and stolen valor is a couple of examples. -

I thought the Outpost was owned by Ronnie Barretts kid? I have more respect for Ronnie Barret than I have for the NRA. They (the owners) can do what they want. I was just questioning if they were going to turn us non NRA members away.
-
So they are going to turn those of us that are not NRA members away?

We had a gun conversation at work. It went something like this: When I arrived the supervisors and the owners were standing around. They ask if I had a gun. I said yes, it’s in the car. They ask if I would please put it on. A co-worker had carried a shot gun into the facility, walked out back, cranked off a couple of rounds and left. He then called and threatened to kill a couple of people. When the cops went to his house to arrest him there was an armed standoff before he was taken into custody. Situations like that will educate people that have never been around real violence or violent people. Luckily no one was killed.

Well it’s good to see those that like to buy American Made products certainly are not lacking choices when buying a cooler.

If a Grizzly attack is a real possibility; you need a rifle. I wouldn’t take on a bear with a handgun of any caliber. Ditch the 3 lb. handgun, get rid of 7 lbs. of other stuff and carry a 10 lb. rifle; problem solved. My first choice would be a 308 AR, second would be a 45-70 lever.

What kind of mill are you using?

What got you to trial where a Prosecutor would have the opportunity to ask you about your training? As far as giving information on the forum people need to get the facts as best we know them. Just like the ammo issue, where you got your training is a non-issue in a justified self-defense shooting. There is plenty to be concerned with, without making up stuff that doesn’t matter.
