How would it be a first amendment violation? Threats aren’t protected speech.

I know we need to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists. (Kind of a dumb azz question) But I’m not for gun control; I’m for terrorist control.

It keeps reverting back to “Everything” when I have selected “Content I have posted in” under “ownership” and keeps reverting back to “content I haven’t read” when I have selected “everything” under “Read status”. I just seem to be spending all my time clicking at the top of the page telling it what I want to do, and then it switches back to whatever it wants every time it refreshes, when before I just toggled back and forth between stuff I had posted in and everything. It took me a couple of minutes to find this thread again, because it wants so desperately to not let me see anything I have already read.

I have been here since the beginning. The political threads we have now pale in comparison to some we have had in the past. (For example the Trump threads are nowhere near as out of control as the Martin/Zimmerman threads were). The attack on our country in Orlando by a Muslim extremist will be followed by an attack by Hillary on gun owners. It’s all gun related and it’s what’s being talked about right now. The new software has kept me from being in here as much. But I just figure as soon as people get use to it they will pass along the knowledge of how to do the things we want to do.

Yes, it would be sacrilege. It wouldn’t save you any money; and you would have to like it because you could never sell it for what you would have in it. There are real M1 Garands that are .308, but they were made for the Navy and are hard to find and expensive when you do find them. You can't convert to magazines, why would you want to convert a 30-06 to .308? The Two weapons that meet your requirements (not expensive top of the line, but not stamped out bottom feeders, 308 caliber and removable magazines) would be the Springfield M1A and the AR10. I would look at these: https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/27445/Springfield+MA9102+M1A+STD+308+WAL+BL https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/90757/DPMS+RFLR-G2AP4+GII+AP4+20+1+308WIN7.62NATO+16" https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/90756/S&W+M&P10+Mid-Length+20+1+308WIN7.62NATO+18"

No, I don’t think you can build a .308 for what you can buy a complete rifle. There is no Mil Spec for a .308 so parts are limited because you have to pick what you will use and stay with it. You can get a DPMS for under $1500 delivered if you can find them in stock. I would suggest you get what you want on the rifle from the manufacturer. I have a DPMS 308 Panther that I want quad rails for, but I can sell the gun used and buy new with the rails I want for less than I can buy the rails and put them on. I just haven’t got around to it yet. At one time Wal-Mart was selling the cheap DPMS for around $900; I don’t know if they still are. 308 AR’s are fun at the range. But they eat a lot and are expensive to feed.

Same round count, only .040 thicker and .35 longer than my .40; might have to take a look. I still haven’t got around looking at their new .22; I need to do that also.

It not as fast to use as the old, too many clicks and picks required. I assume I’ll get it figured out; but haven’t yet.

McCain Wants To Destroy the Govt Surplus of 1911 Pistols
DaveTN replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I was excited to hear CMP was going to be selling 1911’s. But I just couldn’t believe that the Federal government would get in the business of putting handguns in the hands of civilians. I doubt they will. I also was discouraged when I heard they would probably sell for over $1000. I used and carried them in the service and that is a ridiculous price when you can buy a modern, much better 1911 today for less than that. I own an SW1911 and an SR1911 right now and they are both far superior to anything the military has. I don’t think they should be destroyed, but if they can’t be sold; what else can happen to them, they will never be used? I have an M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, and 03 Springfield from CMP. I am glad it was a time when we could do that. I doubt we will see it again. -
Sure the AK’s are junk; regardless of what you compare them to. They were designed to be junk; they were popular because they were cheap. They have a following now so there are people paying close to a grand for them; who would have ever thought? Having said that everything is application driven. They are a great close quarter combat weapon because they use a better round than the AR. They are made with extreme clearances so they won’t jamb; but they are useless at distance. They can’t compete with an SKS or an AR at distance. If you are a sniper or a long distance shooter there is no comparisons between an M14 and an M16; again, application driven.

Very few are in disagreement on this. Both parties, the NRA and most Americans believe that people on a terror watch list or no-fly list should not be able to buy guns. The only thing that is lacking is how due process will be accomplished. If no person had ever been wrongly put on one of these lists it would be a non-issue. But we know that isn’t true. If the government and human beings are involved there will be mistakes. A law banning sales to these people would fly though and be enacted into law if a realistic recourse was available to those accused. That has not yet been presented. The legal system is big and slow to move, so I doubt they could handle a speedy response.

The SKS was widely used in Vietnam. The NVA had them and the Viet Cong used whatever they could find. The SKS cost more to produce than the AK. The AK was junk. A lot of Mosins were also used. Probably the other way around. The SKS was a better, more accurate rifle than the AK. The leader and the snipers would probably have SKS’s if they had them. Mosins and 03 Springfields were also common sniper rifles. Everything available was used in Vietnam. The Viet Cong were scavenger forces; they used whatever they had or could take. The same thing today in Afghanistan; plenty of old azz rifles there. They use what they can get.

I've spent a lot of money at Academy Sports, but....
DaveTN replied to gregintenn's topic in General Chat
I wouldn’t be ashamed at all to walk into Academy and ask them to drag out the EBR’s. (But then I’m not ashamed to buy rubbers either). I doubt anyone working in the firearms section will look at me like I’m “That” kind of guy. But that what’s great about this county and this forum; we can have different views (sometimes even without being called names). DD is wrong on this one; I hope they get their heads on straight. I hope Academy gets back to their “business as usual” mode after they feel they have shown the proper respect or whatever it is they are trying to show. Is this even a real issue to them? Has anyone ever seen a DD rifle at Academy? -

I won’t Judge Academy in Orlando on how they responded to a tragedy in their community. They didn’t quit selling AR’s and they aren’t gathering names of ammo buyers. They didn’t do this for marketing; this came about from a Reddit post (of all things). Corporate decided to follow suit for who knows how long. People struggle with what to do after a tragedy. In the gun debate there are only two sides; us and them. Academy is still one of us. (Until they do something more than they have) DD is just responding like a little biatch. And I think they are doing it for marketing. They need to get back on the right side. -

Oh…. I hadn’t thought of that. -

I hear Academy is going to have a sale on DD stuff. They keep it put away though; you have to ask to see it. This is ridiculous. This is DD using this as a market ploy. DD we need to stand together in the face of this attack, not turn on each other. Put your big boy pants on and get back in the game. -

Wow…. The libs have to be having a good laugh about this; watching the gun folks turn on each other and they didn’t have to do anything. Between this and the election we have to appear pretty divided. Disgusting. -

I haven’t been in here in a few hours. Did Academy make a statement? Have they had a policy change? Have they buckled under pressure? They are a firearms dealer so they get the benefit of the doubt until something is proven. -

They could have just done like Cheaper than Dirt did with ammo during the Obama scare and tripled (or more) the price. Everyone swore off Cheaper than Dirt; but it appears they are doing fine. Price and availability seems to drive most people in the gun community. I have never bought a gun at Academy; they have never had what I wanted. Same with ammo, when I went there they were out. So me not shopping there anymore would have zero impact on them. But I think I’ll wait until I hear from them about what they are doing, and why, before I judge them. -
If your credit score is high enough you can qualify for 0%. That’s real money. Of course it isn’t 0%; it’s a discount, but your bank isn’t going to touch it. (Although you should always check.) I could have paid cash; but pulling $40K from my investments when I didn’t need to would not have been smart.

Resell isn’t even a factor to me. I don’t trade vehicles in, I sell the outright. So 4% difference isn’t a big deal. (The difference between a Chevy Silverado and a Toyota Tundra.) They are like guns; their condition and how they were maintained means more than anything. And can certainly make more than 4% difference. I care that they are as American manufactured as I can get. (Manufactured not assembled) Although I know that is hard to do these days. I choose not to pay cash; so I look when the vehicle I want is offered at 0% financing. That’s real money and a good discount even against the best bank rates. I care what options it has. And then I care who has it at the best price. Finding a Chevy is easy; you can build it and then find it on the web. I assume others do that as well. When I bought my Suburban it was at a dealer in Alabama. When I bought my last Silverado it was on the dealer’s lot in Franklin.

What's in your pocket most often?
DaveTN replied to Handsome Rob's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I have never been a knife guy; I have always been the guy bringing the gun. But now that I am old I find a need to have something to open all the packaging they use now. I have some nice knives and recently got some low cost auto knives, but I don’t carry them; too big or too heavy. I do carry a Gerber Mini Paraframe with me all the time. $10 most anywhere, super sharp and well made. Heck of a deal. http://www.gerbergear.com/Activity/Everyday/Knives/Paraframe-Mini-Knife_22-48485
