Emotions are running high right now on all sides. If you think “they” want to curb open carry don’t you think they would get that done? They ask the Governor and he said “no”. So that’s the end of it unless the state legislature decides to take up the issue at a later date.

What flavor of DTI? What application is your rifle for? Target, hunting plinking, home defense? Scope or dot? What distance do you expect to cover? Do you have a budget number in mind?

As I said in the other thread, with hundreds of Officers from outside agency’s that local Police don’t know on sight, and the two shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge; we have a potential for the perfect storm. This situation requires training on both sides. It requires the cops be trained not to shoot innocent people carrying guns, and it requires the citizens carrying guns to be trained on how to not get shot by a cop. City leaders have said they have it under control; We shall see how it goes.

Fill us in on exactly what you know about the 6 Officers in Baton Rouge or the 12 Officers in Dallas that justified them being shot. I truly don’t understand why you or a few others on here hate cops so much. But as a patriot that truly cares about my country, believes it is great and wants to keep it that way; I support our Police Officers as most Americans do. I think it is imperative we understand this isn’t about race; it’s about crime and violence. A line has been drawn in the sand and blacks and whites alike are getting on one side or the other; most of them on the same side.

Besides all the Cleveland cops (1600) there are 700 cops from around the country sworn in to work the convention. The perfect storm is brewing.

That’s terrible. A Cleveland Police Officer is on FOX saying that anyone open carrying around the convention will be treated as a hostile. I think that’s going to be going on all over the country. They are asking for an emergency ban by the Governor for open carry in the county.

The Illinois Supreme Court ruled in People V. Aguilar that an across the board ban on the carry of firearms is a violation of the 2nd amendment. They have ruled that both Heller and McDonald apply to possession of firearms in the home. Illinois’s ban on guns and carry is old news; they have changed everything. So these people are pretty well covered on the gun part of it. I suspect their legal battle will be over the “Foster Family Firearms Arrangement”. It doesn’t ban firearms in the home; it makes them inaccessible to the children. All of the court rulings including the SCOTUS decisions have implied wide latitude on reasonable restrictions imposed by the state. So my guess is they will decide if the Foster Arrangement is reasonable. However, I’m not familiar with foster care; do they really have to give a reason? Or do they really have to even turn you down? Is it not an issue of just not calling you?

I don’t think open carry of a rifle should be illegal. For me personally I just feel open carry is a bad idea and it has nothing to do with cops or scaring the public; it is what my training and experiences has taught me. But no one is asking me to be responsible for the open carry folks; so they need to do whatever they are ready to take responsibility for. However…open carry of a rifle certainly comes with responsibility. If you are going to open carry any kind of a gun to a hate group rally; you need to have some extreme situational awareness. When someone starts shooting people from the crowd like they did in Dallas and you are standing by them, there is a very good possibility you are going to get killed. Open carrying in your day to day business as you make your rounds around town is something very different than open carrying at a hate rally. If the latter becomes a problem open carry will simply be banned.

That's a lot to lose. I’ve seen friends and family lose everything they have....Pictures, documents etc. It's sad to see. We live in a digital age. You need redundant backups for everything; have a plan. Hard drives fail without warning.

I haven’t been to this yet, but now that’s it’s been going for a while how crowded is it on weekends? Do you have to wait for rifle lanes? Can I drive my vehicle close to the area where you shoot? (I usually bring a bunch of guns) If not, about how far do you have to walk? I know they have a FaceBook page, but I would rather hear from members that have been there recently.

You might want to go talk to any Machine Tool Dealers in your area. They probably won’t have much single phase stuff, or stuff in the price range you are looking; but they know who has what for sale in their area and they may put you onto a shop that has that great deal sitting in a corner you are looking for. I can’t count the number of good machines I’ve seen that were free if someone would haul them out.

Yes, but because I had a C&R I got a letter from the BATF stating the TFFA violates Federal law. We haven’t found anyone yet that wants to be a test case.

Guy Personal defense in Murfreesboro has a ladies only handgun carry permit class. I have never heard of them. Have any of you ladies here been through it? Care to comment? I don’t want to recommend the wife go there without some feedback. Thanks

You can have a loaded gun in your car in Illinois with a valid Tennessee permit. I do it all the time. But you can’t carry beyond that. But I honestly am not sure of the laws for the city of Chicago. If I’m going there I’m drinking and partying so I’m not armed. Best party town in the nation. Where are you staying? Going for IMTS?
