I’m curious, how much trial experience does Andrew Branca have in self-defense shooting cases? -

It would be interesting to hear from real life folks that have used them; not just the ones they use for commercials. I would take an azz whipping before I would pull a gun, so it kind of hard for me to think of a scenario where I would be getting arrested. I also can’t think of a scenario where I would not be making a statement and talking to the responding Officers after I pulled a gun. But if that scenario occurred it would be a good idea to be able to contact an attorney no matter what time it was. -
A Model 36 is the only gun I have that I won’t sell. It was the first off duty gun I bought. I sold in to a friend many years ago when I needed cash, but my wife got it back from him for a birthday present one year. I kinda wish I had kept my first duty gun; a Model 19 I paid $175 for brand new. Or the three Pythons I had...or... I don’t get too attached to guns. My collection has most applications covered, so anymore if I want to try something new it usually involves selling something.

I know, I have a 700 VLS in .308. that has a matte blue finish. Not exactly what I would call a Walmart special. If I go with the model 70 it will probably be a new Super Grade. I haven’t had any luck in finding anything used. I just wondered if Savage ever made anything in polished blue, or course it they did it probably wouldn’t be accutrigger.

Did Savage ever make anything in polished blue?

I think it’s just hard for some folks to believe what happened. I came to the conclusion that he was either just a very evil man or something was wrong with his brain. I don’t know that finding some ISIS connection or something would change anything. Some need someone other than the dead guy to blame. The lawsuits against the hotel have already started; and that is wrong. But for the conspiracy theorist crowd, I did read today a Police Officer fired his weapon in the room after the shooter was suppose to be dead. That should be good for some kind of traction.

Any experts here on the Seven? I’ve never seen one. Comparing the specs on a CDL it looks like the Seven is just a couple inches shorter and roughly a pound lighter. Is it the same action as a 700, made in the same place? Over the years Remington has had some cheaper offerings than the 700; but this Seven has a $10 higher MSRP?

Good review. I haven’t looked at this yet, since some of you have done your homework I’ll just ask.. So this is length and height wise in between the Full size and Compact, with the same width? My carry holster is open on the end so I can use it for either my full size or compact. Will it fit this new model? I have a D.M. Bullard for my 40C that is closed on the end. Will this compact fit it?

Caliber wise, it just doesn’t get much better than a .45ACP. (Okay maybe .357Mag, but that doesn’t pertain here ). I have 1911’s and love them for range toys. I can carry them, but I don’t. They are big and heavy. If I’m going to carry something that big it will have 15 rounds of .40S&W. I would suggest you check out the S&W Shield. It will fill both your applications. (And with rebates they have been pretty cheap lately) I like them in .40S&W, but you can get it in 9MM. Then your Wife/Girlfriend can shoot it also. EDIT: Guns are like anything else; application driven. No gun will cover all applications. So if you can afford it; keep the 1911 and add another carry gun. Or three...or four...or five.

It use to mean something; I don’t think it does anymore. I recently bought an M&P that was sold as a “Performance Center” model. It didn’t say Performance Center on it, didn’t come in a performance center box, and if it went through the Performance Center I’m guessing it was just on a cart passing through. I’m a Smith & Wesson fan, but it is a terrible gun. (At least this one copy) I would invest that money in a mint condition Pre-Lock 686. There are plenty of Gunsmiths that can make any S&W K or L frame smooth as glass (I do my own). But you may find it doesn’t need it. Unless you are going to shoot in competition I think you would be happy with the older Pre-Locks. A new Performance Center with a lock isn’t going to hold value the way the pre-locks are.( If that’s a concern to you.)

I’ve had several M&P’s since they first came out. I have four right now. I haven’t owned a 9mm in many years; all my M&P’s have been in 40. When I decided I wanted a target Tupperware gun I went with the 9mm M&P CORE Performance Center. Up to this point I have never had a real problem with their triggers. Mine were all okay for a duty/carry type weapon. Mine were also black box LEO SKU’s. There were rumors these had better triggers. I didn’t believe it; I do now. My 9mm had the worst trigger I have ever felt on an M&P. I just figured it was a bad one that got past quality and Smith & Wesson would take care of me as they always have with customers that have issues. I was wrong. Even with 2 trips back to S&W and the VP of the firearms division getting involved; nothing was done. I had to put an Apex trigger in it just to have something that was useable. What’s really frustrating is that had I waited a few more months I would have had the new gen. Having said that I’ll still probably buy more S&W’s, but it’s disappointing they don’t have the customer support that they once were famous for. (At least in my case)

I don’t know that it’s just a Craig’s List problem. I buy and sell guns through several places. Sure, being armed might help, but someone that wants to rob you on a gun transaction will know you are armed. A gun won’t help you much when you are staring down the barrel of a gun, or multiple guns. Many Police Departments are offering “Safe Trade Stations”. I haven’t used it yet, but Murfreesboro offers their parking lot at the Police Station (as does some other cities around here). I’m sure some of them ban firearms deals; but it’s something to check out. I’m sure at some point some creative business types will turn it into a business.

Thanks. I don't think I'm far from pulling the trigger on a new one.

Thanks Chuck. He must have been reading our posts. Of course now it will be even harder for me to find one.

I’m curious why you would want an A-bolt or even an X-Bolt over the SUPER GRADE? I haven’t shot either. But most of the comparisons I read rate the Super Grade over the X-Bolt. I’m just asking; I have no idea. I don’t know what was available when you got yours, but the Browning site shows 19 calibers available in both the X-Bolt and the A-Bolt and 10 in the AB3. The X-Bolt Medallion would cost me $920. And I could get it .223 or .243. http://www.browning.com/products/firearms/rifles/x-bolt/current-production/x-bolt-medallion.html The Super Grade would be $1083. .243 is the only offering I would be interested in. http://www.winchesterguns.com/products/rifles/model-70/model-70-Current-Products/model-70-super-grade.html If the Super Grade is that much better; the price difference isn’t an issue to me. I haven’t had any lucking finding anything used, even when I had a moment of ignorance and offered a Garand for trade.

I think you will be happy you picked the .308. I look at the application and IMO the .308 can do it all. Plus you can walk in anywhere they sell ammo and get what you need. Let us know what you think when you get to shoot it. I’ve wished for a long time we could have get togethers to compare these different rifles in the hands of an unbiased marksman. Finding a Marksman won’t be hard. Finding an unbiased Marksman would be a feat. That and finding a place to shoot 1000 yards.

I have gun money burning a hole in my pocket. I’ve tried to buy an AR pistol, and am right now trying to buy a bolt action rifle. I post on all three of the big sites and haven’t had any offers on what I want that were under what I can buy new for. Although I will say I am pretty specific on what I want. Trumps good for us, but the used gun market has slowed to a crawl. (From what I see actually being sold)

Is it logical to you that 60 minutes or 48 hours made contact with an assassin? Or that we wouldn’t have got him; extradition or not?
-
Their website shows 19 calibers.
-
Lets see what happens...
-
Thanks Mike, I think I’ll be okay with the .243 if that’s what’s available. I just thought .223 would keep me from adding another caliber. But if it’s not available it won’t be a deal breaker.

No conspiracy. There just isn’t anything to dispute that. I know that doesn’t sit well with the conspiracy theorists…. But oh well. We just had a guy kill 59 people and wound hundreds. My theory is he was either just pure evil, or he had a brain malfunction; that simple. Thinking that Mandalay Bay or the government has anything to hide is a ridiculous theory devised to get the lawyers money. Sometimes the people responsible are dead and there is no one left to hold responsible.
