  1. The Circus is coming to Shelbyville next week. https://secure.gardenbroscircus.com/event/Shelbyville-TN---730PM---2242018---Saturday
  2. Being responsible for your future and not expecting a handout is what needs to change. There are plenty of skilled trade workers that enter the workforce at $15 an hour out of trade school and work their way up. But some seem to think a hamburger flipper at McDonalds can’t live the life of luxury they want on $15 an hour. No kidding. I hear all the time that women (or men sometimes) can’t work because they have kids to take care of. That’s BS. There are plenty of single Moms that make their way through College and into good jobs. It takes dedication and a good work ethic. Those that don’t have it won’t make it no matter how much you help them. I believe that most people want to work. As good paying manufacturing jobs return to this country and business expands under the current administration making those job available; we will see a decrease not only in welfare, but in crime and drug use. However, there will always be those that would rather lie on the couch, watch TV and get paid to have kids than work. The taxes of the working class should go to help those that want to get educated and be productive members of society; not to those that think they are owed something. We owe them nothing. I feel the same way about College for everyone. Some people aren’t cut out for College and don’t have what it takes. You need to have some skin in the game. As a taxpayer I don’t mind helping those that will work; but I’m not okay with giving a handout to those that won’t.
  3. Because unlike most of these they have someone alive to hold responsible and send to trial. They already seem to think this man is going to give them some insight that will help us stop other evil men; he will not. It is ridiculous to think he will offer anything we don’t already know. His trial will be a media Circus.
  4. I guess that would depend on the Department and where you are. Our school liaison Officers were Officers that had proven themselves with many years on the streets, most had been in the Detective Bureau as Juvenile Officers, and was some of the highest paid Patrolmen we had. The next step for most of them was Sergeant; which would remove them from the schools. Private Security is not necessarily the answer IMO, unless it pertains to teachers that are willing to go to the same training side by side with Police Officers and be allowed to carry and be part of the security force in their school. I believe many teachers would be willing to do that. I don’t think many parents will accept anything less when it comes to people carrying guns around their kids.
  5. In the near future there will be discussions about the civil liberties of private citizens and far we want to go. As a former Police Officer I do not believe we have to violate anyone’s Constitutional Rights when they threaten violence. When you say or post “I’m going to be a professional school shooter” you have crossed the line from Constitutional Rights to Reasonable Suspicion that a crime is about to be committed. That warrants Police involvement. Anything less is unreasonable.
  6. Some things should be common sense; but they aren’t. I find it laughable that being able to ask for ID when someone is using food stamps is somehow demeaning, but asking them to take a drug test isn’t. Jobs are what will change things. I believe in a hand up; not a handout
  7. As someone was describing the town to a FOX reporter they described it as a community filled with million dollar homes and no crime. Does that sound like a community that couldn’t afford to protect their schools? Of course not; this was not a funding issue. They didn’t think it would happen to them and it did. They (and maybe others that learn) will have protections in place soon.
  8. Did they have better ones on CNN and MSNBC? The Officer at Pulse took a full on attack before he had time to react. That could happen to a school resource Officer also, but with most schools they would/should have more time when seeing someone approaching the school. Will anything we do stop the person that wants to kill kids and is willing to die to do it? Probably not, but it is better than doing nothing. You are correct; there are no guarantees.
  9. I live a few blocks from a school that has a Police car sitting in front a lot. It makes people hit the brakes a lot, but those of us that live in the area know there is no one in it. Securing the building is a start, but it’s not a fix for someone that is a student. Even metal detectors won’t work if someone inside can open a door to let a shooter in. They need to be prepared for an active shooter that is in the building. I only know one fix for that.
  10. Well we know what won’t work; a gun ban. There are just too many AR’s (and other guns they would try to ban) out there. A person that wanted to do this could get a gun. Especially someone that had the financial resources of the Vegas mass murderer. I watched Senator Bill Nelson from Florida call for gun control last night. He said he was a supporter of the 2nd amendment and a hunter, but that an AR is made for killing not for hunting. So apparently Senator Nelson thinks the 2nd amendment protects his right to hunt. That is pretty sad itself; but the fact that he is a lawmaker and doesn’t understand the United States Constitution makes it worse. Yes, the AR is a civilian version of the M16 that was engineered and designed as an assault rifle for killing people in combat. It is also a very effective weapon is engaging an active shooter in our children’s school or protecting your family from violent attacks (that law enforcement cannot protect them from). Some terrorists are using vehicles instead of guns or bombs. Some are using knives. Those work also. The core problem is family values, morals, religious beliefs, and no fear of legal prosecution. Many people seem to think our constitutional rights keep the Police from getting involved if no crime has been committed. I strongly disagree. Police involvement doesn’t mean the nut case won’t go off the rails and kill anyway. If they know they are going to die they don’t fear the Police or anyone else. But it may get someone involved that can make a difference. We recently had a post on here about a suspicious person. When I was a cop I would have ran the plate number and went to his house and had a talk. Would he have to talk to me? Of course not. But we would be way ahead of where we were, and on our way to being able to take some action. It didn’t surprise me that the kids knew this guy was a nut case, as I’ve said before, ask your kids who the nut jobs are in their school and they will tell you. What did concern me a little was the calmness these kids showed in telling what happened. When I was a cop (many years ago) kids would be very emotional after witnessing a violent act and had trouble talking about it. Our kids need help, but that’s a separate issue from mass murderers. Our schools and workplaces need the ability to engage and kill an active shooter. Not have to wait until he gets done killing people and takes his own life.
  11. It’s Florida; as soon as they have what they need they will fry him or stick a needle in him.
  12. Yes, they say he had a gas mask, smoke grenades (undetermined if he used them), an AR15 and a bunch of mags. He pulled the fire alarm and opened fire when they ran out. He was captured about a mile away and is alive and in custody. I keep hearing “When will we learn?” Yes, when will we learn? He was in a target rich environment and he was the only one with a gun. The only way to stop an active shooter is with another active shooter. Also, the kids knew he was trouble.
  13. In a gun free zone…. 17 dead. http://www.foxnews.com/
  14. I’m not a businessman and don’t play one on TV. But I have common sense and know quality guns when I see them. Remington is the top dog on Bolt Action rifles and Shotguns, not so much on handguns. Smith and Wesson is the top dog on handguns, not so much on rifles and they don’t have shotguns anymore. Unless Remington is in so much financial trouble the big boys can’t get them out; I think this is a common sense match.
  15. If you are using a valet service for entrainment; a five spot is fine. If you are at a hospital or Doctors office they are providing a service for patients and should not expect or accept a tip.
  16. I have plenty of faith in Remington, but more in Kimber when it comes to 1911's. They have it in stainless for a grand. http://www.kimberamerica.com/stainless-target-ls-2/ https://grabagun.com/kimber-10mm-stainless-target.html
  17. Am I reading these stories right? They had industry people in for testing of this gun, found it had issues with returning to battery, and shipped it anyway? I guess sending new guns in for a recall is becoming the norm.
  18. As stated above; you are good to go. Tennessee recognizes all states carry permits. I have an AR pistol also, but I know unless it’s NFA with paperwork; it’s iffy in any state. I keep mine in the trunk.
  19. This is just a guess. The option that covers you for this state only does not meet the requirements of Federal law because it only requires you to qualify every four years instead of the Federal requirement of every year. I don’t know why that option would be any different than an HCP. Here is some information that may help you… 18 U.S. Code § 926B - Carrying of concealed firearms by qualified law enforcement officers https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/926B 18 U.S. Code § 926C - Carrying of concealed firearms by qualified retired law enforcement officers https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/926C TN Info on LEOSA https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/commerce/documents/post/forms/Renewal_LEOSA_fillable_packet.pdf https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/commerce/documents/post/forms/Fillable_LEOSA_initial_packet.pdf If you are using military service as a qualifier (for the Feds) http://www.leosaonline.com/
  20. I hate to see any American gun manufacturer go bankrupt, but I doubt Remington goes quietly into the night. I know there are a lot of folks on the gun forums that have a lot of hate for them (as is with any brand you can name), but fact is they own the bolt action and shotgun market. They would be a great fit for American Outdoor Brands Corp (Smith & Wesson) to pick up, but I don’t see Cerberus admitting they can’t make a go of it. I mean let’s face it; buying companies in distress and bringing them back is their claim to fame; it’s what they do. I don’t think the Remington 700, 870, and 1100 will go away. I just hope they aren’t bought by a foreign company, like happened with Winchester.
  21. I think you posted the wrong picture; that’s a picture of a Subaru.
  22. Because a trespass warning means you can’t come back or you will be arrested. Being asked to leave is not a trespass warning. But it probably would be accompanied by a trespass warning if the cops have to come out to give it. I don’t want the cops called on me for any reason. If I happen to walk past a sign, and if someone happens to see that I’m armed, I don’t want the business owner to think they have to call the cops for me to have to immediately leave.
  23. I don’t think a Police Officer should have to be dispatched to do what an owner or employee could do if they so desired.
  24. Well…anything is possible. But the intent of the statute is clear. The Officer would have to have trouble with reading comprehension or be looking a legal “Gotcha” moment. Pleading not guilty would probably result in the case being dismissed. It certainly could have been written better/clearer; as is true with many laws.
  25. Don’t wait, get a plate number, call the Police and have them send an Officer out. Unless you are missing him dropping off/picking up this is highly unusual behavior. They don’t need to have proof of a crime or wait for one to happen to go talk to him. Or with all that is going on with church shootings it may be a plain clothes cop. But I wouldn’t take the chance. No matter how prepared you are the shooter has the upper hand.
