AND why not all public schools
DaveTN replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I don’t want anyone being forced to qualify or carry a gun that doesn’t want to. Of course I don’t think we have to worry about that happening. A Teachers job is not security; especially not armed security. Their job is to notify those that can deal with the problem. Part of the problem is the schools and the teachers, but the overwhelming part of the problem is the worthless azz parents that shouldn’t have had kids in the first place because they have zero idea on how to raise a respectful productive person. Many of these kids (thanks to their parents) belong in reform school. And many others are so drugged they can’t maintain and disrupt the whole class; that’s their Doctors fault. -
No paperwork is required by law on private sale between Tennessee residents. It is your responsibility to know they are a Tennessee resident, are of age, and are not known by you to be banned from legally owning a gun. However, you certainly can go through an FFL transfer if you want to pay the fees. Most any FFL will do it.

Minimum Age to purchase a handgun in TN
DaveTN replied to RottenBlood's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The confusion comes into play because of Federal law. FFL’s are required to abide by both state and Federal laws. When crossing state lines or selling to a resident of another state they are required to abide by Federal law, laws of the state they are in, and laws of the state the buyer is from. It is illegal under Federal for a FFL to sell a handgun to someone under 21. Tennessee state law only requires that they be 18 on a private sale between Tennessee residents. It’s one of the many reasons I require a bill of sale and ID. I hold a C&R I am not allowed to sell a handgun to someone under 21 on a private sale even though state law allows it. -
Yeah I know, I’ve been through it. I have made a couple of deals there though, dealing with locals or locals letting me know where dealers are that have what I want. I’m not sending cash to anyone and hoping a gun shows up at my FFL. But I guess some people do that.
-
I’m using a fairly new FFL because they are close to work. I sent them a message and they said they need to have a copy off the FFL prior to shipment. Maybe I’ll check around and see if there is some local FFL that doesn’t have that requirement. I have seen several 39-2’s on GB and ArmsList at reasonable prices.
-
At the point that a reasonable person (Judge or jury) in that same circumstance would believe they were in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm. Pointing something at someone (Cop or private citizen) in the dark and screaming “I will shoot you dead!!” would meet that requirement. You don’t have to wait to see the muzzle flash.
-
I know, there are plenty of them on Armslist also, but out of state is such a hassle. I have to get their dealer to send my dealer a copy of their FFL, etc. I already feel guilty about ordering stuff my dealer doesn’t have. That’s really not true; I don’t feel guilty a bit, but hopefully I will find one here locally. I found one awhile back, but the pictures were really lousy, the price was high and the guy said he didn’t have the ability to take better pictures; so I passed.
-
And if the price was right I’d buy your Model 39-2 without a BOS.
-
No problem. I understand you, and many others, don’t like and won’t sign bills of sale. That’s fine, no harm, no foul. I figure if something doesn’t sell; its price and nothing else.

So I’m watching live PD last night, they have your typical chase and the guy gets out and runs. As I’m watching the Officer close in during the foot pursuit the suspect turns to face him raises his arm and screams “I will shoot you dead!”. I thought they were about to show the first Officer involved shooting on Live PD. Luckily the Officer was next to a concrete pillar and he took cover and drew down on the suspect. He held him at gun point until his backup arrived. The whole time the guy was yelling “If you handcuff me hard I will kill your family!” among other things. Backup arrived and this mental case was cuffed to a gurney and taken to the hospital by ambulance. But man… I was thinking if that cover had not been there; the cop would have shot him. I certainly would have. The suspect was unarmed but pointing his cell phone in the dark while yelling he would shoot the Officer. If the cameraman had not been there it would have been a cop standing over an unarmed dead perp running from a traffic stop. Those two men were certainly very lucky. If you get a chance watch it and see how fast stuff can go really bad.

AND why not all public schools
DaveTN replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The idea has been kicked around for many years. I think you will see it being implemented in some areas; others will be slow to follow. Obviously the wealthiest areas will not have problems fulfilling their needs; poorer districts will struggle with it. Why not at all public schools? Because many parents simply won’t stand for it. Most don’t want armed private Security let alone an HCP holder that has no training whatsoever carrying around their kids. Some parents aren’t going to be ok with anyone carrying in the school. I think what you will see in more advanced districts is teachers that want to carry going through training side by side with the locals cops and having the same firearms qualifications requirements. Richer districts will simply hire Police Officers that want to work second jobs. But as most everyone is coming to realize, this isn’t a gun issue; it’s a mental health issue. I think you will see Doctors/ legislators/School officials looking harder at the problem of Kids being pumped full of (legal) drugs and the impact of social media. I also think the days of making or implying threats and calling it “free speech” are soon to be over. -
My guess is this shooting impacts social media and what people can post more than it does gun control. http://www.wsmv.com/story/37524765/christian-county-student-arrested-for-allegedly-threatening-to-shoot-up-the-school

Those would both shoot right through soft body armor. You would need level IV hard body armor. My first question would be the same as Raoul; see if they will let her carry body armor into a classroom.

Regardless of what the FBI did or did not do, or what they would have done as follow-up; this information should have immediately been passed to the Broward Sheriff’s Office for action. They are now the lead agency and this is their case. Do we know if that happened? With nearly 6K employees the Sheriff’s office was the best agency in the area to give this threat the attention it deserved.

Companies that increased their production due to investing in more equipment now have that equipment to pay for during lower demand. But I doubt many ammo companies made that mistake; we all knew it wouldn’t last. I’m still finding good prices on common ammo on-line. 9MM, 40S&W 223 & 308. I just bought a .243 and that was a little harder to find a deal on ammo. But I haven’t checked the local Walmart’s in a long time. I liked it when members were taking pics of the Walmart prices and posting them here, but haven’t seen that in a while.

Some of you guys need to go back and edit your posts so you aren’t giving that lame azz PB free advertising. The food looks good though….That is all…carry on.

You can claim whatever you like will show proof of ownership. I’m just responding to his question about real life circumstances. Everyone has to do whatever they are ready to take responsibility for. I’m not suggesting a BOS be required by law. My requirement helped a guy out; your millage may vary.
-
I guess it depends on you beliefs. I would rather die on the spot or get the death penalty than spend the rest of my life in prison. My religious beliefs do not allow me to be a party to killing someone that doesn’t meet the requirements for the use of deadly force. So I couldn’t be on a jury where the death penalty was on the table; but I could kill a criminal where the use of deadly force was justified and go eat lunch. The taxpayers can have a bigger bill to defend someone in a death penalty case than the cost to keep them in prison until they die or another inmate kills them. Illinois did away with the death penalty when the Governor was faced with many (25 if I remember correctly) on death where it was proven that they could not have committed the murder. How many innocent people are we willing to execute to kill the ones that are guilty? But that’s just my opinion I don’t care one way or the other if the state executes them as long as I’m not involved.

Yes, a member I sold a gun to in Franklin had his home burglarized and the gun I sold him was stolen. The DA had him come to court to testify that the gun they recovered from the suspect was his; which he did. After the trial the DA refused to give him the gun back without proof of where he bought it. Now… what the heck?? He is going to use this man’s testimony as evidence to convict someone of burglary, but that same testimony isn’t good enough to prove ownership for return of the gun? That dog don’t hunt. Had I not had a copy of that BOS to give him, and be willing to come forward as the seller; he would have been out a $1K handgun. It didn't help me; but it helped him. I also have a C&R, so I need proof of age. But no, I have not had a gun used in a crime come back to me. But if I do I will gladly tell them who I sold it to. I have no reason to try to hide that information.
-
I know, but my BOS is non-negotiable.
-
Probably going to be some nut cases in jail this week. Threats are not protected speech; some folks need to learn that.
-
All good points, and I won’t meet with someone without talking to them on the phone. I just won’t give out my phone number until we are close to a deal. Maybe I’m missing out on some good deals.
-
We see all kinds of crazy numbers when it comes to gun deaths. I wonder if there is a way to get a real number. Let’s rule out: 1. Suicides. Unfortunately people are going to kill themselves. We won’t stop that and a gun is probably one off the most humane ways. 2. Those killed by cops or home owners justified in the use of deadly force against criminals. That’s why we have guns for self-defense. So what we are left with is those killed by accidental/negligent/reckless discharges and those killed intentionally by criminals. I wonder what that number is?
-
What’s up with that? Are there people using phones that don’t know how to email from them? I’m seeing more and more “I don’t email” ad’s. I figure they are a scam. Am I wrong? I don’t do any gun deals that won’t email. No point in me giving my phone number out until we have, or are close to a deal. When I see “Text Only” I move on.

I may be naïve about it but I truly believe that is going to end. (At least until the Dems get back in control)
