UPS. Anyone Having Issues Shipping Firearms with UPS?
DaveTN replied to Old Mitch's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If you follow the rules and notify the carrier you are shipping a firearm; you will probably have problems at UPS. Years ago I tried to ship a shotgun to a forum member (in state). It wasn’t against the rules then (it is now). I called corporate and they said it wasn’t against the rules, but because a gun was involved they wouldn’t override the “Security Officer”. They even told me once that I couldn’t ship a gun back to S&W that S&W had send me a prepaid shipping label on. After checking; they allowed me to do that. I see S&W has changed to FedEx. UPS has made it clear they don't want our business. Anymore I figure if I can’t sell locally; my price is too high. Shipping does cause a problem though when trying to buy. Here are the UPS regulations on firearms: https://www.ups.com/us/en/help-center/packaging-and-supplies/special-care-shipments/firearms.page For FedEx: http://www.fedex.com/us/freight/rulestariff/prohibited_articles.html USPS: https://about.usps.com/postal-bulletin/2011/pb22321/html/updt_001.htm -
That's a very good example.

Looks like Central and Downstate Illinois might be able to fight the big Chicago machine. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/05/07/illinois-counties-form-sanctuaries-for-gun-owners-to-thwart-states-push-for-gun-control.html

On 'Loop-holes' and Personal Responsibility
DaveTN replied to Six &Twenty's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The Illinois FOID system is not a bad system as far as useless background check systems go. But it should be pointed out that it is required for more than just firearms or ammo purchase. It is required for mere possession also. Having a single round on you or having a loose round in your vehicle can be cause for arrest; even in your own home. An otherwise law abiding citizen can quickly become a criminal with a “Weapons” conviction if they don’t get a FOID card and make themselves aware of all firearms laws prior to handling or possessing any guns or ammo. -

So your interpretation of the Federal law on age and residence is that if you don’t ask and they don’t offer you won’t be charged because no crime has been committed? -
Capacity. My full size .40 has 15 rounds. I don’t need to carry an extra mag.

It’s not a win. I don’t need an FFL transfer to cover my ass on a firearm sale; I’m fully capable of doing that without adding any cost. I’m absolutely sure background checks are not going to keep killers from getting guns. Most of the mass killers we have seen so far either passed a background check to get their guns, or they would have. I’m also pretty sure background checks will become a Federal requirement on private gun sales unless they are ruled unconstitutional. However, this is 2018; there is no reason to require going to and paying an FFL for what amounts to a criminal background check. I expect it to be done online and I expect it to be done for free. It’s already just a feel good move that will do nothing; it doesn’t need to be a money grab also. My local FFL needs to make his money by selling product; not getting a free handout from the government. -

I disagree. That may be true of the person having a criminal record, because you have no way to check that. But age and state of residence is very easily verified and it’s reasonable to require that. However like anything else it would depend on how and why the age/residence became an issue. Hiring an attorney and going to court is never a win. -

Good article. I don’t know how many folks I have seen over the years on various gun forums state that they don’t ask for ID because they aren’t required to. As a former cop I can tell you that’s true in most states. However, it’s a crime for you to sell to an underage person or an out of state resident in a private sale. You can be arrested for that in a private sale. I hate the term “Gun show loophole” because usually those that are using it don’t want to acknowledge that they are talking about either requiring background checks on private sales, or outlawing private sales and making them all go through an FFL. -
There are some “less than lethal” options that would kill a drone (Bean bags, Rubber bullets, etc), happy hunting. “Technology” if you want to call it that, will catch up. Killing and blinding drones without danger to those around will soon become common place.

I’d be curious to see some mounts on pick-ups. My wife has a Silverado with a tonneau cover (so I can’t just use the bed rails) that I would like to put a mount on. I have a Wilson Mag mount but the wife doesn’t want it because it scratches the paint. You probably have a truck stop around Clarksville, but if not there are two down in the 80’s (MM) on 24 towards Nashville.

All of them would have. Unfortunately you would have to wait for him to shoot at someone. If someone had shot and killed a naked guy walking into a restaurant before he fired his weapon, I would bet they would have to go to trial. And no “Tried by 12” is not better for me than “Carried by 6”.

I don’t think arguing about what they are called will have any impact. The term assault rifle has been used in legislation and cases at the highest level. I also doubt they will be banned in Tennessee; but you never know. I don’t believe the SCOTUS will allow the Feds to ban them. But they would have to rule if it is “reasonable restrictions” to allow the states to do it. They recently refused to hear an appeal on the Maryland case which allowed a state ban to stand.

Gun purchase monitoring through CC?
DaveTN replied to SWCUMBERLAND's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I have zero concern about my credit card company or even the government knowing when I buy guns; ZERO. It does piss me off though that financial companies can take action against gun companies. But I have to believe that there are pro-gun financial companies in our free enterprise system more than willing to make money off guns. -
Don’t be taken by someone telling you that you need a high definition antenna; there is no such thing, they are standard antennas. There are plenty of web sites to give you an idea of what you need and what stations are available. https://www.antennasdirect.com/transmitter-locator.html https://www.channelmaster.com/Antenna-Selection-a/134.htm https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/antennas-and-digital-television

What kind of problems did you have? Of course I’d like to buy FTF locally, but sometimes that’s not an option.
-
Good to know! I didn’t know they would give the buyer a copy. I’ll check with some local dealers. Thanks BTW: Not getting any love locally on that 39-2; plenty available on GB and AL out of state.
-
I have never used it because I figure getting dealers to send copies of license for a transfer could be a hassle. I buy new where I can use my dealers at check out and they don’t have to do anything other than the transfer, but I hate to ask them to start messing with sending copies of FFL’s. I may have to do it though. They have some guns I can’t find locally, and the prices are reasonable. The thing I like about GB is that you can search auctions that have ended and you can see what the gun you are looking for is actually selling for vs. what it is listed for in auctions.

Why would be need to buy a Jet Pack if he went with Verizon? I can turn my phone into a hotspot. I doubt you will find many places where Verizon can’t get a signal.

That won’t work anymore; forensic accountants will find everything he has and report it to law enforcement and the victim’s attorneys. According to the news stories the father admitted giving the guns back to him. That makes him an accessory to the death and injuries that took place. The rest of the family will have their lives changed also. All because nothing was done when the obvious problems presented. The punitive damages will be huge.
-
I would like to find out “The Rest of the Story” behind this. Threatening someone with a deadly weapon is Aggravated Assault in Illinois, a felony. Not many Police Officers in any state would let someone like that go. I wonder if he was arrested and not charged, if this is the case where he got court supervision and then a dismissal, or if his family had the contacts to keep him out of the system. I never saw a Judge in Illinois release a firearm to anyone that was charged with a crime. Any plea bargain always required that the weapons be destroyed. But this is a case that shows even when laws are in place they won’t stop a criminal.

They can’t let the dog loose because they (the handler) has to ID the suspect. If an innocent was in the area the dog could tear them up before the Officer got to the dog. Also the Officer doesn’t want to blindly send the dog after someone he knows is armed with a gun.
