Shooter convicted of 2nd degree murder...
DaveTN replied to lock n' load's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yes, but if this is true it shows he wasn't in fear for his life.... (The other stories I saw said Headley charged him and was yelling.) -

I never saw what he supposedly said beforehand, do you know? -
Shooter convicted of 2nd degree murder...
DaveTN replied to lock n' load's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Based on the limited amount of information I have seen (From his wife); I agree. Couple the above with him charging the shooter; and no, we would not be seeing a trial if a cop had shot him. It appears he was convicted on statements made before the criminal showed up and a picture after he was shot. Neither have anything to do with whether or not a reasonable person would fear they were in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm. I support the Police when they take action against a criminal creating a deadly force situation, and the standards for a citizen protecting himself should be no less. EDIT: This appears to be another case of a person getting exactly as much justice as they can afford. -
Shooter convicted of 2nd degree murder...

I was curious about what happened (because I had never heard of the case), but can’t find a whole lot of detailed information on what happened. From what limited amount I can find this whole trial sounds sketchy. Of course I’m giving the benefit of the doubt to the man working at the landfill that had been warned a dangerous fugitive was on the loose instead of the fleeing forcible felon that got killed. -
Army's new machine gun will blast like battle tanks

Help me out here. Why are we comparing a 20 pound tank projectile at 80,00 PSI and a 55 grain projectile that is now at 62,000 PSI, and pretending like they have anything in common? -
x Well Mr. Coats it’s a shame the President of the United States didn’t check with you first. Please fill the public in on the dangers of the Russian President visiting the White house. Good grief this is getting ridiculous. Oh, and try to keep up.

I have a question about being denied a purchase.

There are many reasons listed in this thread. You will find out when your appeal goes through. You can contact the TBI. -
The Police depend on citizens for information to help keep our communities safe. You don’t have to give your name or make yourself known. Once they have the information it’s up to them to investigate it and determine if it’s a real threat or not.

They don't know yet. https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2018/05/08/armys-next-squad-weapon-will-fire-a-never-before-seen-ammo-combination/ -
I know firsthand criminals aren’t smart; that was my point. Criminals also don’t fear guns (unless they are in the commission of an act where deadly force is justified.); but let a K9 show up and see what happens.

Thugs thinking a “No Guns” signs on a private residence means there are no guns could possibly end badly for them. It could mean “Gun Control is in effect…I control all the guns.”

Mine also. No drama with shipping auto knives. I just wish they were closer.

Good choice. That rifle gets good reviews, and is made at the Kentucky facility. The .243 will take you out to 1000 yards. So it will easily do want you want. Let us know how it does. I’m curious about the trigger. It the article from American Rifleman below they compare the trigger to a Timney, and were very impressed with rifle that they shot out to 500 yards. (Of course they had a Leupold CDS that I’m sure cost more than the rifle; that matters.) https://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/2013/1/2/the-remington-783/ As far as long range with the .243... https://www.ssusa.org/articles/2017/9/29/six-key-reasons-why-john-whidden-uses-243-win-for-long-range-shooting/

So if I want to replace some T8 tubes with LED tubes, is there anything special I need to look for other than the T8 on the LED tubes to use bypassing the ballast? I’m not ordering, just going to try to go to Lowes and get them. I’m asking because in this thread I see that some worked and some didn’t.

That was a response to my remarks about Canadians crossing the border. It was a joke and I think everyone took it that way. Sorry if I offended any Canadians. Don’t be mad..... eh.

High Speed Internet at a reasonable cost is a problem in rural communities. I suspect that problem will be overcome soon. If you have satellite internet now why can’t you just install your own cameras?

I had to laugh there are plenty of 3D CAD models available for download and have been for years. Some of these I downloaded looked like they were projects from a kid in tech center making his first CAD model (size and alignment was hilarious). At least now those that want to run one on their machining center will have the correct data. -
Shipping from TN to another state...
DaveTN replied to Ehunt's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
The shop should have told you what the Federal law is since they are in that business. Tennessee law doesn’t address it. The lower you have is a firearm and is treated as one; either rifle or handgun. That doesn’t mean a shipper will ship it for you when you notify them at the counter what you are shipping. They have their own rules that are not laws. If it’s a rifle lower your best bet is the United States Postal Service; if it’s a pistol lower they won’t mail it for a non-licensee. UPS might ship from you to an FFL for repair. It depends on who is at the counter. They will only accept firearms at a UPS facility counter. FedEx will ship it. I have sent firearms and when I told them it was going to an FFL for repair; they took it. The answers on the law and who can ship are on the ATF website. Shipper’s regulations are on the individual websites. Not after all that.... What are you having engraved on it that you can’t just have done here? -
Trump gets to appoint another Supreme Court Justice
DaveTN replied to DaveTN's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Could you imagine what it would be like if Hillary was appointing her second SC Justice? Scary stuff. -
As an Engineer you know everything is application driven. What is the application for this firearm? It’s a duty size weapon. It should work well as a home defense or range gun, probably bigger than most of us would want for carry. I’m not big on foreign made guns so I don’t have any experience with these. But I’m just wondering why you would want a clone of a CZ when the CZ is radially available, has a good reputation, and is about the same price? Everyone has their opinion on a first gun. I use mostly semi-autos for carry, but my headboard gun and the gun I would choose for target shooting is a revolver. Welcome to TGO, if you stick around here your gun collection will probably grow.

I still use one occasionally on trips. Use to be the best radar detectors made, and good for a heads up on road construction/accident back-ups. Not as many reports anymore though and useless in the Metro area unless you like listening to complaints about traffic. Trying to figure out how I can put a good antenna on the wife’s Silverado without adding any holes and it having a bed cover. I have a Wilson Mag mount; but it will scratch the paint.
