  1. Absolutely talking with others Vets could help. But patting each other on the back and crying together in your beer is not all that is needed for some. I like to simply address the topic and not make assumptions about what other people are thinking; but you appear to have a distrust for mental health professionals. That’s fine, they may have earned that distrust from you. You also seem to be assuming that none of those available to help have been in the fight; I’m sure that probably isn’t true. Those kids aren’t old enough or mature enough to be dealing with this by being “left alone” to “talk it out”. We see the call for Red Flag laws because of peoples failure to say something and law enforcements failure to act when they do say something. Personally, I think a gun is the most humane way (other than Doctor assisted) to commit suicide. But people that generally make that threat are asking for help. Their families and law enforcement have the responsibility of providing that help. Part of that help is removing the guns… duhhh. The other situation are those that threaten others with violence. Cops can’t get them help, all they can do is take their guns and put them in jail. And that is exactly what needs to happen. Then the families and the courts can try to get them help. Chances are, they won’t get help; but you just never know.
  2. Wow, that was a lot of shooting. So a guy high on meth, that was threatening his family with a gun and knife, points a gun at responding Officers (We assume because of what they say, but we don’t see it), then he flees. Multiple shots are fired at the suspect. That would have been a good time for him to stop, but something must have been wrong with his vehicle because he continued to flee. Even after apparently having been hit, the suspect points the gun at the Officers. (According to what they say; because we can’t see it) The vehicle finally stops, apparently after the driver is shot in the head. The suspect opens the truck door. Did he display a weapon? We can’t tell, but Officers start shooting again. Ultimately the guy quits moving and the Officers quit shooting. As best we know, no innocent citizens or animals were harmed in the making of this video. The Deputy Dist. Atty. concluded that that all of the available evidence is insufficient to warrant the filing of criminal charges against the two officers. But would like to add he was alarmed by the Officers conduct. The Anaheim Police Chief terminated the probationary employee, has the other Officer on administrative leave, and wants you all to know he finds the video “disturbing” and “difficult” to watch. Five witnesses told investigators they believed Nava had a handgun, and two of them said he shot three rounds, the report stated. Pedersen was determined to have fired his weapon 64 times; Staymates, meanwhile, fired 12 shots with his rifle. The Orange County district attorney’s office concluded in its investigation that a jury would “justly” conclude it was reasonable for the officers to think their lives and those of others were in danger during the incident. If an innocent had been hit or killed would these cops have problems; you bet. Good thing that didn’t happen. Should shooting at a moving vehicle be banned by department policy? Think about all the possible scenarios and you tell me. Full disclosure: This comes from someone that violated Department policy to keep from having to kill someone. Both of us lived; one of us would not had I followed policy. The policy was changed. However, Department Policy is not the law. Armchair quarter backing sure is interesting though isn’t it?
  3. With all due respect; I disagree. These kids need all the help they can get, and they are owed it. Pick yourself up and dust yourself off is probably one of the reasons 6,000 vets commit suicide a year.
  4. These kids want to feel safe at school. They want to know that a system is in place to engage and stop a shooter when it happens. They know disarming law abiding citizens isn’t it. They have been told when you see something; say something. When they do; they expect that information to be acted on by local law enforcement. The time of protecting people because there is no “direct” threat or protecting what some seem to perceive as their 2nd amendment rights is over. When a threat is transmitted whether in person or over the net; Police will respond with an investigation of that threat. If that investigation determines a threat was made; that person will be taken into custody and their guns seized. That’s what is going to happen because that is what the American people want.
  5. Cool. I was only on the Holland in Goose Creek for a little while when it went to Bremerton to the ship yards in august of 74 to change the Polaris Missile Magazine to Poseidon. I got out of the navy in 75 while it was there. I loved Norfolk while I was there on the Ponce. I went back a few years ago and could not believe the changes. I went through boot in San Diego (in august) and then to MR class "A" school. We had a good time in San Diego (after boot camp).
  6. I do not believe that ICBMs and many types of missiles need GPS. When North Korea (or the rouge nation of the week) decides to take out our satellites instead of committing suicide with a direct strike attempt; they would know we still have the ability to kill the decision makers and every living thing around them. And we wouldn’t have to use nukes to do it.
  7. I’m not going to go hunt for it, but it seems I remember about 6 states (Not absolutely sure on the number) that changed their position on Tennessee when the age was lowered. The two you bring up that stopped reciprocity, and the others that just said they would not recognize those under 21. But its possible I’m not remembering correctly.
  8. Welcome. I don’t have answers to your questions, I’m not from that area. But what did you do in the Navy? Chief Opticalman would be my guess? I was an MR onboard the USS PONCE LPD-15 and the USS HOLLAND AS-32, both decommissioned now.
  9. Where y’all going that you need maps after that big azz EMP hits? I’m stayin’ home.
  10. I don’t deny it’s a big deal; if it was going to happen. Would I support Tennesseans not being able to carry here to protect my being able to carry in another state? Of course not. But of course you certainly have the right to your opinion; same as me. Are there not other states that have this regular/enhanced stuff?
  11. But some states didn’t; they just said they wouldn’t honor them for those under 21. If our legislators would acknowledge a 2nd amendment right to bear arms; all this would be moot, we wouldn’t need two classes of permits. If other states are looking for a reason to kick Tennessee permits; they don’t this to do it. And quite frankly it isn’t fair to Tennessee residents that can’t afford a EHCP, to not get this because of what some other state may do.
  12. I’m a technology junkie; love me some tech. But sure, things could go bad. Things could also go bad if we lost the power grid or the internet (deadly bad); but that’s where we are. We assume we will always have power and cable, other than short interruptions due to weather. But I’m sure there are people trying to figure out how (both from within and outside or country) to take it out. I try to keep the most current editions of those road maps, they pass out at the rest areas, for each state I go though in my vehicles. Simply because they are sometimes better than GPS when you know that big back-up is ahead of you on the interstate. Old tech like a CB also helps; I have one of those in the trunk. (Got me through the Nashville floods when the media wasn’t giving any useful information)

I think that’s true of any semi auto regardless of caliber. I guess it depends on what the application of the gun is.
  14. You cut the part of my post that gives you your answer. The online class is for those that want a CHCP. They obviously won’t be able to carry in some states. If you want a EHCP (What is now the HCP) you still have to go to a real class and shoot a qualification. As far as the online class… I don’t know if or how they would know if someone else took it. Probably make it a crime.??...or not.
  15. Inconsistent is a nice word for it; not one I would use. But I’m not suggesting the state require training; my point is it is up to the gun owner to get the training, since they are the one that will be held responsible for their actions. You could end the argument about training very quickly. Make permits holders take the same classroom training, pass the same tests, take the same range training and pass the same tests on that as a Police Officer where they live. I’m not suggesting that, but then the only arguing you would have would be from those that can’t pass it and those that don’t think their Police Officers are well trained. I don’t support that because it would hamper a person’s 2nd amendment Constitutional Right to bear arms and their inalienable right of life. Being trained is their responsibility. I do support that requirement as a requirement for those that want to be armed security officers in schools; exactly the same requirements as the cops where they live. No Constitutional rights involved.
  16. Not enough information to decide if she is defending herself or is an attacker. I would never stand by and watch as innocent people were being killed; if I was sure of what I was seeing. The Islamic dress is meaningless to me.
  17. So now this is about training? The streets are going to run red with blood? Seems I’ve heard this before; but it was coming from the other side. I doubt many people fail the range test, and the rest can be done online. I have no facts or figures to back it up (because I haven’t tried) but it seems to me we see more negligent shootings from those that handle guns often and claimed to be trained than those that are not. Saying a pro-gun bill will cause us to lose our privileges in other states is hyperbole. I guess some state, somewhere, could say “Oh Tennessee has two different types of carry permits; we better revoked their carry privileges in our state!” It could happen; but common sense tells me it isn’t likely. If it does happen; so be it. We can’t structure our laws around what other states may think. I predict that if this bill passes, those of us that have HCP’s now, will come out the other side unscathed. However more people will join the carry crowd, and most of those will already have the very minimal skills required to pass a test; or will seek to acquire them. They will be, after all, law abiding citizens that have made it to 21 without doing anything too awfully stupid.
  18. Smart business people grabbing the opportunity.
  19. No one is removing the class requirement, no matter how much you know. You still have to take the class and you still have to shoot the qualification course that will give you a permit that has reciprocity.
  20. I don’t care if they sell them on another site for less, or 1% of the price, if they are under another name. This administration is trying to stop the counterfeit. Plenty of counterfeit Leupolds and EOTech’s around, and software being sold for pennies on the dollar. That needs to be stopped.
  21. I bet they are getting paid enough to not do that.
  22. For those of you who say there is nothing in this bill for you; you are absolutely correct. It’s not about you. If you want to require training for a Constitutional right, or a God given right; that fine, make it free. (And just because Tennessee doesn’t recognize it as your right; doesn’t mean it isn’t.) I would bet there are Police Departments, that if ask, would supply a place for training and an instructor. I remember seeing one Police Department that offered the class cheap for those who lived in the city limits. If a person wants to exercise their rights it is their responsibility to get the knowledge they need; regardless of where that comes from. I’m lucky to be blessed enough to be able to afford the fees and pay for a training a class I absolutely did not need. But I jumped through the hoops. I have to say I’m surprised at the opposition to this. I expect some to be worried that someone is going to get something they didn’t get, or have less requirements than they had; but not many. I think training is a great thing. But some people simply can’t afford it. And no, that shouldn’t mean they can’t defend their life and their family like the rest of us.
  23. Is the APX carry marked "Gallatin" This story says the standard APX is being made in Gallatin. Is that correct? Wikipedia says its made in Italy. https://www.wkrn.com/news/gallatin-police-officers-now-outfitted-with-beretta-apx-pistols_20180326033007701/1077095261
  24. Here's what I see… Reciprocity. Nothing will change with a EHCP but the name. So you will still have reciprocity with the states that allowed it before. Because no real training is required some states won’t recognize the CHCP; some will. With the CHCP local government can prevent you from carrying on public property. With a EHCP they can only do that if they provide security. With this will have to come legislation addressing open carry for CHCP. So I assume they will have to deal with laws on Printing, improper exhibition, or brandishing. But maybe not, this bill doesn’t seem to address it. The biggest stumbling block this bill has is that they are saying the state will lose over a million $ a year. The original intent was to give poor people a chance at a permit. That quickly went out the window. But it will still cost them less.
  25. Why would you want a refund?
