People mispronounce Garand every day. Then they argue about it.
  2. So its been 5 years now. OP, did you find a Ruger SR9? Did it work out okay? Inquiring minds want to know.
  3. No rights are involved in that decision. You don’t have to pay for or apply for a Constitutional right. This has zero to do with the 2nd amendment to the Constitution and everything to do with moving towards allowing illegals to vote.
  4. So, if you believe that is its only purpose; it has failed miserably. If you believe it is in place to overthrow our tyrannical government; so be it. But guns would only be part of that issue. The biggest part of that issue would be getting Americans to fight for a tyrannical government; it wouldn’t happen. More than likely it would be a case of a group of nut cases (could be small or large) that have decided our government is tyrannical now and it is their job to overthrow it. They would die wherever they make their stand. They wouldn’t have the manpower, and they certainly wouldn’t have the weapons to take on our military and the private citizens that are Patriots. However, If you believe its only purpose it to overthrow a tyrannical government, more specifically ours; that would certainly make it easy for the SCOTUS to rule that states control where when and what you carry off your property. It also lets the wind out of the sails of those that think the 2nd amendment allows them to carry a gun off their property. Unfortunately, inalienable rights have no teeth. There are no laws that recognize that our Police Departments are reactive; not proactive and can only respond after the damage is done. Too many people believe that cops being pro-active might violate someone rights. Our right to be armed with deadly weapons because criminals that live in our area are armed with deadly weapons is not recognized. At some point I suspect that will change. But it will have to get much worse, and the group of victims will have to get much larger before people understand that LE and armed Citizens can take out criminals without violating their Constitutional Rights.
  5. You will be 50 miles from the capitol of the Confederate States of America; why would you be concerned about Yankee food?
  6. Maybe I’m not seeing it, but that link or the video doesn’t tell how/why/ she was missing? Did she get lost?
  7. I don’t know if you and your sons are into big azz ships or big azz ships with big azz guns, but you will be about 45 miles from the Navy Base at Norfolk. Standing face to face with a modern day Aircraft Carrier on a tour of the Naval base or going through the Battleship USS Wisconsin and standing next to 16” guns is something that would probably impress you and your sons. https://www.visitnorfolk.com/things-to-do/tours/tour-norfolk-naval-base/ You will also be 2.5 hours from the Courthouse at Appomattox.. https://www.nps.gov/apco/index.htm
  8. Well if you think your right to protect your life and your family comes from the Constitution; there are plenty of arguments about it. I can argue either side. But I do not tie my right to protect myself to a dog like the 2nd amendment that is both poorly written, and poorly interpreted, and is emotionally argued, and can be gone with a vote. But my right to protect myself comes from a natural right, or unalienable right; as mentioned in the Declaration of Independence. There is no gray area of a well regulated Militia, effectiveness of the military, reasonable restriction, and does not require interpretation by the Supreme Court of the United States. Unfortunately neither protect my right to carry a gun under the laws. Our Founding Fathers were not a bunch of arrogant azzhats that thought they were creating a document that would bind all future generations to it. Quite the opposite; it was written as a foundation for going forward. It can be changed and amended as needed. It is our duty to do so as our country changes. They knew that. So, will the 2nd amendment be gone? Possibly some day. But I don’t think most of us will see it. Thankfully it takes a lot to change the Constitution. A more likely scenario is interpretation by the SCOTUS. The 2nd amendment (or any others) can get changed by the interpretation of the SCOTUS. They have already ruled that you have the right to keep arms. They have neutered the “Bear Arms” by saying states can impose reasonable restrictions. As you have seen some states think banning the AR is a reasonable restriction. Another case could cause them to rule you have the right to keep and bear arms with no restrictions, or that a well regulated Militia is our Military and Law Enforcement agency’s and you have to 2nd amendment rights at all. But one thing is for sure; the 1st and 2nd amendments will continue to be debated and twisted daily to fit the needs of whoever is making an argument.
  9. It’s on HBO June 6th at 7PM. Its available On Demand the next day.
  10. What is your budget? And what is long range to you?
  11. That's not a bad idea. If they have the ability to it; they should pursue it. I would like to do it and have the training to do it. But that doesn’t make me a good candidate. Even though I still get around pretty good; I don’t have the physical ability to run, jump, or fight with a young shooter (if it came to that). It wouldn’t be a job for a bunch of old retired guys like us.

Tell her not to leave it in the car; it will melt.
  13. I’ll play. Yes, they will stop a bad guy with a gun. They can give the minutes/seconds advance warning to let the security people know where they need to be. This is 2019, we have the technology and it doesn’t cost a lot. Not only the cameras and monitors I suggest in the post above. But an audible alert, much like General Quarters on a ship; everyone is on alert and either has a job or a place to be. But let’s be clear. You can’t stop an active shooter; they have the element of surprise. You have to make them unable or unwilling to fire their weapon. That means engaging and killing the shooter. All you can do is have a plan that will reduce the number of deaths and casualties. Of course many schools and teachers will plead poverty. I suggest this could be done from donations. A lot of schools have done it, some from the school budget, some from donations. I’m sure it would depend on where the school is. You decide on the plan you want; you estimate the cost; you find a way to get the money. Just like Police on the street, you will never have enough to be exactly where they need to be when the shooting starts. First off, I respectfully disagree with your premise that there is an abundance of Veterans with College degrees that would take a job in a school or be a security guard for what they pay. Police Departments and industry that pays well has a hard time finding them. Not only do they need to be educated; they need to not have anything disqualifying in their past. That knocks out a lot more than you might think. Personally I don't think they need a College degree. Because that would knock a lot of good candidates out also. Secondly, most parents aren’t going to go for untrained people carrying guns around their kids. Ever...Period. I served in the Navy, as a Security Police Officer in the Air National Guard, and as a Police Officer on a city Police Department. I would always give a Veteran preference in hiring; but having served in the military doesn’t make you qualified for this job. (Some maybe; but not most) However… I don’t complain without having an answer; and its very simple. Have the people you want carrying guns in the school, whether it be Teachers or Veterans that want to work security; go though the same firearms training and training on the laws governing the use of deadly force, as your local Police; side by side. If a person doesn’t have the time to commit to that; they don’t have what it takes for this position. On a side note I’ll add this: Your schools may not be real hip on that idea because when your Teachers start interacting with real cops; you are going to lose some Teachers to the PD. The department I was on had an Auxiliary Police Unit. Have something like that so they can get good training on the street also. They rode with us and acted as Police Officers. We had several Teachers. So to recap…. Early warning systems that work. Use the technology we have available to us. Trained people to engage when needed. Students trained what to do, and where to be in almost any scenario of their day. I don’t think there is prohibitive costs in any of that. I also think a lot of schools are doing more than you think they are. They just aren’t making a big deal of making it public.
  14. Curious what made you pick GOA over SAF? I’ll probably join one or the other but not both.
  15. Because there will be high speed SAT that actually works, or they will overcome the issues of Broadband over power lines, or come up with some other option that get the folks out in the sticks up to speed.
  16. I think they are trying to show that the Swiss are being bullied by the EU even though they aren’t part of it. If they don’t bring themselves in line with the EU gun control; the EU will screw up their travel across borders.

    Savage 99

I’m not sure the Savage 99 has been around long enough to get a good sampling.
  18. If you want it; get it. If you are asking for opinions on the new one; it an unproven performer and sells for $800-$900 depending on where you buy it. There are a lot (almost all) of proven performers in that price (and below) market. I look at it like the Kimber K6s. I’d like to try it; but I can’t justify the over $800 price tag for it.
  19. If you have DISH you should be GTG for what you say you need. Antennas are the same as they have been forever. No such thing as HD or Digital antennas; those are marketing terms. The problem with any antenna is height; tower costs a lot. But if you found someone that had a tower and wanted it taken off their house; that would be great. But still with an antenna you can only get what is on the airwaves within a reasonable distance. I suspect this problem will not be an issue in the next few years.

If she is carrying it in the car I would recommend a leather holster that completely covers the trigger area and has a thumb break. It’s a semi-auto striker fired pistol, if anything bumps that trigger its going to fire.
  21. Why in the world would we want to follow the Swiss model? They have gun registration. Carry permits are issued sparingly. You need a plausible need from a specific danger. Hollow point and soft point ammo is illegal except for hunting. You must have a “weapon acquisition permit” to purchase a gun. Same for ammo purchase. Can’t transport a weapon without a specific reason.
  22. Squint real hard and you are back in 1977. Gretchen Wilson sounds just like Ann Wilson (nope, not related). And look who makes a guest appearance on guitar....
  23. Good at 36… Better at 51….I think
  24. Zero impact to you; yours will turn into EHCP. Some believe there are states that will cancel reciprocity on both permits because of the reduced requirement CHCP. I guess that’s a possibility; but we have no way of knowing that. I don’t think its been signed into law yet. EDIT: Looks like it passed both houses and went to the Governor on Friday. Here is the link… http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/default.aspx?BillNumber=HB1264&GA=111
  25. My elderly parents got mad because their Comcast bill jumped. I tried to explain to them that happens when your contract expires. My Dad called me and said he was calling Comcast and dropping his service and getting Dish. I ask if he had priced it; he had not. We checked it out and both Dish and AT&T were higher than Comcast. Yea, I couldn’t believe it either. What I found was that when you sign a contract with Comcast you lock in the rate for the length of the contract. That’s what I have always done and assumed that was standard with everyone. Not so with Dish, your contact starts with Promo pricing and then kicks in a bunch more several months later. Be careful. To me it’s like reloading… The last time my bill jumped I looked at the options six ways from Sunday and couldn’t get a better deal than Comcast. However…. I need high speed reliable internet, 200 channels, and the ability to take equipment into a local office and get new when it quits working properly. I am spoiled and have no desire to live off the grid. I’ve been a faithful Comcast customer for over 20 years, paying for all the options they have (around $200 a month recently). I recently retired and do you think they would give me a better rate? Of course not; they would rather use the discounts to get new customers instead of keeping the good ones they have. I had to drop the premium channels to reduce my bill. I also have a phone with them that I don’t need but dropping it would remove me from a “package deal” and cost as much or more. I hate Comcast; but don’t have any better options; at this time. I keep hoping though.
