New law allows online course for conceal carry permit
DaveTN replied to The Legion's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Ha, ha, ha… people can say the most ignorant stuff and try to pass it off as serious. Having a job must be a real burden on some. But I have no problem with this. The cost made it prohibitive for some folks. This easies that a little bit. The legislature isn’t concerned with them being trained. If they were; they would have found a way to do it and reduce the cost. Its obviously pro gun legislation. Even though some of the pro-gun folks are going to throw a fit. The guy interviewed in that story was a firearms instructor. If I was a firearms instructor I’m sure my opinion would be different. -

No, you can’t disregard a sign without possible consequences. Unless it has been changed recently carrying past a sign is a $500 fine only misdemeanor. (There was a bill up) Of course, we have never heard of anyone being charged with it. Yes, you can carry in a restaurant or bar as long as you aren’t drinking. The other biggest change I can think of is that you don’t need an HCP to have a gun in your car.

Well sure, if they left the house unsecured. I assumed they secured the house. Yes, you should call whoever forced entry into the house and ask them to secure it. Of course if its been 10 days and the family hasn’t been there; there probably is no real concern by them about the house or what’s in it.
-
I can understand them being there that long to investigate and remove the body. But why do you think they were searching the house? No need for the Police to search the house, unless there is a reason. As a former cop that has been in these situations, I see no need or requirement for the Police to remove anything from the house. I doubt they were concerned about guns being in the house; I would not have been any more concerned about a gun than a diamond necklace. Secure it and leave it for the family. Firearm’s present no special problems or requirements on their own. (Other than legal transfer) Taking those guns would make the local PD (or whoever took them) responsible for the legal transfer of those guns to out of state relatives. I personally, would rather have the family deal with that and not the Police.

How cute, you went to Sea World. -
I renewed my DL 2 months ago. I didn’t get a “REAL ID compliant” one. I have a Passport so I can fly on that, but I don’t understand why I didn’t get one when I renewed.

I don’t know why anyone would be a Memphis hater…..maybe they don’t like good food or music. But when it comes to getting all indignant and up in arms about crimes rates; we need to look at what’s going on in our own area before we pass judgement on another city or state. Statistics are available all over the place, some accurate, some not; its up to you to decide. Everyone seems to be up in arms about the murders in Chicago. You can apply some 4th grade math to the murder numbers and populations and get some interesting results. Walking around downtown Memphis is more dangerous than Chicago; not that that really matters to some. And Nashville isn’t far behind. I think the main thing a comparison between the two very violent cities shows is that crime and murder rates have very little to do with citizens carry guns.
-
They should make sure the house is secured. Fix the window or whatever was damaged to make entry. Leave all the property for the family to deal with when they get there.

Did you get hungry and bite off that big ones tailfin, or was he already like that?
-
Thanks, that works. I didn’t know I could do that without putting anything in the search field and then pick the state. I knew I must be doing something wrong.
-
Thanks, but I only get 86 guns when I do that. That gets over 6800 results. Three clicks is fine, but I don't see how you are doing that in three clicks.

Deer season is five months away. You spent a lot of money on top quality equipment from your bow, to your sight, to your release. Get with someone (even if you have to pay them) and in two or three sessions you should be ready to hunt deer. The archery part of it isn’t hard; don’t talk yourself into thinking it is. Getting a shot at a deer is a different story. I had an Indian friend tell me once that if his ancestors would have had compound bows; this country would still be theirs.

The most important thing to me on a gun even before the price is the location. It doesn’t appear to me that I can see guns for sale in Tennessee on Gun Broker without going in, doing a search, and picking Tennessee in the location box. That’s too convoluted; am I missing something?? I have to admit Armslist might be loaded with scams and nutcases; but they have the best web site for buying used guns. A couple of clicks and I can see what is for sale in this state, and one more click and I can go to my city. That’s the way it should be.
-
And there in a nutshell is the problem. Why is security for a law enforcement agency being contracted out to a private company? That is ridiculous.
-
They also get to do other things you don't get to do. Like, turn on the overheads, hit the siren, run red lights, speed, and quickly get to traffic accidents in an attempt to save anyone that may have lived through the initial impact when of these distracted drivers hits someone. It is my understanding many first responders are updated while responding via a phone. It’s unfortunate if that’s all their departments can afford. Some could just be violating the law; that should be dealt with.
-
Correct. Some people are a little slow and they need a law passed to let them know they are doing something that is getting people killed. Those people will quit their bad behavior because it’s illegal while others will continue their bad behavior, because its all about them and they simply don’t care. I live in an area where myself and my family is more likely to be killed or seriously injured by a bad driver than by a “real” criminal. So these laws kinda make sense to me and should be explained to young folks about why they are in place instead of whining about them. But that’s just me based on what I have seen. Then it will be a good thing that these laws will be a non-issue; correct?

It’s Rambo 5, with him saying there could possibly be a Rambo 6. Isn’t that great??!! But not as great as 47 would be.

Police Departments should, and do, have control over what their Officers say and do in public. If a Police Officer is making controversial statements on Facebook; they are probably too stupid to be a cop. However, that should be discovered in the pre-employment interview process. If I were a Chief of Police I would end the Social Media issue in one day. The Police Department I was on had a Citizens Complaint system in place that worked. If a cop does or says something wrong on social media; report them. Many people that make complaints against cops are good people doing what they think is right. But many are simply cop haters that will lie and do anything they have to, to get a cop in trouble. It’s not hard for the Command Officers to tell the difference. I don’t know how a Police Department could justify having a “list” of Officers that are not “trusted”. I see that there are DA’s that have such lists. Most of those DA’s are simply playing politics and not worthy of the position they have. However, Officers that are wrongly accused have recourse; the same as anyone else. Officers can sue those that lie about them or DA’s that put them on “lists”. I don’t know why anyone that is young, educated and has a clean record would want to be a cop nowadays. But as fewer want the job; the worse it will get. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying cops don’t have to be held to a high standard; they do. But when accusations are made; they need to be dealt with properly. Citizens need to step up and support their Police Officers when they are in the right. But Chuck you and I have had this discussion many times. We will never agree on this.

You Cleveland guys are really letting us down. No drunken river cruises….. for us. -
He is a Chief Petty Officer, that is almost as high as you can go in the enlisted ranks and is generally more respected than young Officers. Enlisted men don’t tell a Chief what to do or how to do it. Even Officers treat Chiefs differently than the rest of the enlisted ranks. The “Junior Seals” making statements stuff just doesn’t make sense to me….. Unless things have really changed. Of course no one is going to talk. I suspect he will be convicted of something and this will go away. They have him charged with everything including “Failure to do right on Friday Night”.
-
Dang Chuck we agree on something!! Because that is exactly my take on cameras on cops. If you can’t trust your cops to tell what happened; you can’t trust them to testify in court; and you should fire them. You of course would need something called evidence to do that. Cops should tell them to go pound sand. I’m not big on ripping on entire groups of people because of the bad acts of a few. When I was young, truck drivers were some on the best drivers on the road; today many of them are the worst. They kill a lot of innocent people. But I’m still not wanting to mandate putting cameras on them.

I heard that!! Fire breaks are terrible. It usually ended with my wife saying…Go ahead. I would knock a hole in the wall to get access, and she could patch it so well you could never tell it was there.
