What do you suggest (That’s reasonable and has a chance of working)? Are one of those Democrats looking good to you? I believe…(although I could certainly be wrong) background checks for all gun sales will pass. It’s common sense that most Americans want. Whether it will pass muster with the SCOTUS remains to be seen; I have my doubts it will. I think Trump knows if it is brought to the floor in the Senate it will pass; regardless of what he says or does. So, is trying to try to tie it to a border wall wrong?

Don't worry; they won't miss anything.

Don’t you hate it when we can’t have discussions without people calling us racists? It use to be you knew when someone wasn’t capable of intelligent conversation by them using the terms “Hitler” or “Nazi”. Today its “Racist” or “Nationalism” or its especially evil if you are a Nationalist and you are white, and if you are a Nationalist, white and old; you can’t be discussed in public; especially around children.

My SHTF rifle is a 308 AR. However I just heard that there is no need for anyone to have 100 round magazine. So I suspect those same people would not think I need a 308 with 25 rounds.
-
Yeah, I gave up the idea of using mine for the application I thought it would fill. There are some quality factory AR’s available pretty cheap right now; I might need to need to add one of those. I have a couple of high end AR’s but I don’t want to leave them in the trunk.

I agree with you on most of your post, except the rhetoric about restrictive or harshest Chicago gun laws. That’s fake news and you are using it for your narrative. What Chicago gun laws are you referring to? Chicago certainly has problems; but it isn’t guns. Broken homes, unemployment, Cops not being allowed to do their jobs, a States Attorney that won’t prosecute offenders, and moral collapse are just some of the problems. Much of the same problems we have here. But before we start worrying about Chicago; I respectfully request of us all that we get our own house in order. Do an honest comparison between murders and violent crime in Chicago and Memphis. Then apply the math for the population difference. I submit that we have the same problem (or worse) in our own state, but that the MSM just hasn’t targeted us yet. Although they will do a drive by of Memphis and Nashville ever now and then. FOR THE RECORD: I have spent a lot of time in Chicago and it is still my favorite city to go party in. Although I certainly would not live there.

I bought one, but I kinda figured this would eventually come up since is goes against the intent of the law. I didn’t put a brace on mine as I didn’t want to be the test dummy for that. This guy obviously won’t be the test dummy either. I just wanted something cheap to thrown in the trunk in case something more than a handgun was needed. The initial intent of allowing a brace to be used by those that don’t have the use of both arms was a good idea. Of course, some quickly jumped on it and used it as a stock and some halfwits at the BATF couldn’t really make up their mind. I think the attorneys at the BATF must all be Defense Attorneys, they need to throw some Prosecutors in the mix to give them a reality check. I thought we were headed for some major changes in the NFA to allow SBR’s and possibly Suppressors. But with an SBR being used here and a suppressor being used recently in a workplace shooting; I doubt that will happen. The bad thing about that mag is, any legislation will probably address anything over 10. I don’t think they can get that through the Senate; but you just never know.

You were willing to bet no mass shooters had carry permits. Sorry if I misunderstood your post. Dave
-
Absolutely. The other thing they desperately, desperately need is someone to blame. When the person to blame is dead and robs them of that through killing himself or getting killed by the cops; they are frantic.
-
Who is defending or minimizing his words? I’ve commented about your rant about bump stocks before; because no one gives a rolling rip down a razor blade about bump stocks. It’s a non-issue. That was a BATF screw-up and Trump just directed them to make it right. We couldn’t have SBR’s and now all of sudden we can; because now they are “pistols”. I took advantage of that. Will I be surprised if a court ever slaps the ignorance out of the BATF on that? Of course not. Common sense and the intent of the law will prevail when questioned. If you want to allow bump stocks or short barrel rifles; repeal the laws banning them. The law requiring background checks passed the house. When it comes to a vote in the Senate; I expect it will pass. Will you blame him for that also? I see nothing that makes me think Trump is a gun grabber. But even if I did, what do you want to do? Is there one of those Democrats that has a chance you want to see elected?

I’m not shooting anything down. I think I have made it clear I have no tolerance for those that commit violent acts or threaten violence. Cuff them, stuff them, take their guns, and take them to trial. If convicted they lose their guns and are prohibited from anymore purchases. If they are not convicted or charges are dropped; their guns are immediately returned. I support clearly defined due process with no gray areas and times specified in hours or days not weeks or months. If guns are seized as evidence in a crime; so be it. But if a person is not charged criminally and their guns are confiscated as a safety precaution; they should be able to go before a Judge immediately or as soon as they can get an attorney if they want one, to decide on the seizure.

New law passed for carry permits?
DaveTN replied to jdw174's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
No...You have the most advanced carry permit you can have in this state. But you can’t carry in a school. -
New law passed for carry permits?

Your permit will become an enhanced permit. The new permits will be different; they won’t be HCP, they will be CCP. You won’t have to do anything. -
Correct. Money could be an issue. Some people can’t afford mental health care, some of the parents may have the money for it, but don’t want to spend it. Sorry…but there are some messed up totally worthless parents out there and they aren’t all that rare. Especially at the age most of these people are at. I’ve told the story here before about the guy that threw a block through the windshield of my squad car because he was kicked out of a mental health facility, because his state money ran out, and he was told they wouldn’t take him back if he had committed no crime. Luckily, he decided to damage my squad to get back in; he could have stuck a knife in someone. Those are the kinds of issues the legislature has to address.
-
Adam lanza did not exhibit any violence. People that have not exhibited violence would not be detected; he would have been one not detected. He had mental problems, but then there is this from Wikipedia… I think what most people have issue with and what legislation will attempt to address is those people that have acted out, they have had contact with the Police and/or medial/mental health professionals because of a violent incident , threat of violence, or threat of suicide.

No special “acts” or laws are required. They are already in place. No violation of Constitutional Rights is required for enforcement. What is required is manpower. Local PD’s don’t have the manpower to deal with all the internet whacko’s in their cities. I’m not sure of that; but that would be my guess.

My comment was simply that you don't have to have a background check in this state to buy a gun; unless you buy it from an FFL. No where Neither side is going to want and medical or mental health information made available. Documented facts can’t be spun. If you make threats you are arrested. You are then either convicted or acquitted. You are innocent until proven guilty in this country and no matter how much some want to change that; I doubt it will change. I’m not suggesting there will be people interpreting what folks say, or that people need to go through a mental health evaluation to decide if they can buy a gun or not. I’m saying when people make threats; cuff them, stuff them, charge them and take them to trial. They will be tried by their peers. And that results in yes or no data. As you can probably tell I wasn’t the cop you would have wanted showing up at your house after you punched someone out or threatened them.

Our 2nd amendment rights are controlled by the United States Constitution and enforced by the Supreme Court of the United States. The President can’t do much by himself. Nothing earth shattering in his speech. He called for Congress to work together to come up with answers. That isn’t going to happen. Background checks and Red Flag laws; nothing new there. He wants to address Video Games and Social Media. Yeah okay. Like everyone else he’s calling on mental health professionals, expecting them to address a Congress locked in hate and wanting to give nothing of value to this President. I don’t see much happening here. Although, it would not surprise me to see legislation requiring all gun sales to go through back-ground checks. That would probably pass but would become a States Rights issue and go to the SCOTUS, eventually. Oh yea, babble about the death penalty. Like many, he just doesn’t seem to get it that threats don’t work with people willing to die. I’m pretty sure the guy in Texas knew he will be executed and was okay with that.

Carry permits aren’t an indicator of anything. Other than the person probably hasn’t been convicted of a felony. Both sides try to use them as data; they are really meaningless. Most of these mass shooters purchased their weapons legally. Although that’s really a non-issue also; in our state you don’t need a background check. This is a mental health issue. These mass shooters aren’t people who killed someone in a robbery or drug deal, or killed someone in a moment of rage. They have planned out an attack and usually made a decision to die. That’s means they fear nothing; there isn’t anything to threaten them with; finding them and incarcerating them is the only answer. They are full of hate and have no morals. If tomorrow the mental health folks came up with a way to identify a potential mass murderer; it would be stopped in the courts the day after. Trump will be speaking in a few minutes. He has implied he will have some ideas; we will see.

29 according to Google. I’m not sure where you are headed with this, but my guess is; the wrong direction. Probably the best know is Aaron Alexis, 34, who shot and killed 12 people at an office building at the Navy Yard in Washington, DC. also: http://concealedcarrykillers.org/mass-shootings-committed-by-concealed-carry-killers/ Your question would be hard to track. When someone murders someone else whether or not they have a carry, permit is irrelevant to the investigators. So, it’s not closely documented. It’s a political question.
-
My point exactly. I would guess they change department to department and even Officer to Officer. Those laws need to have due process. Folks need to know exactly what is going to happen, and when it is going to happen, and when they get to be heard. The time for a person to be heard needs to be defined in hours, not days weeks, or even months.

As a former Police Officer I know that we don’t have a justice system we have a legal system. I’ve been involved in these cases as the responding officer. I know without a doubt that people lie. I have no idea why you think I would assume any different. I don’t know how or why you were involved in a case that cost someone $20K in legal fees. But I would bet they had a hand in making the person make claims against them. I’ve told all my friends and family; don’t call the cops for help in your BS family/friend/neighborhood situations. They aren’t hand holders that will make you feel okay about yourself or arrest your whole neighborhood because you got disrespected. They are law enforcement. If you can’t handle your own problems; they will send out a 20 something year old kid to handle it for you. They aren’t going to hold court on the street, or in your living room, let you call witnesses and cross examine all the other people involved. They will make decisions on the fly based on what they have and how the interpret the law and their discretion. Don’t be upset if you don’t agree with the outcome. I’m kidding….. of course you will be upset with the outcome. Oh and as far as your rights in certain situations…. I’m sure there are people on this forum who have experienced first hand a spouse or girl/boy friend lie to get an order of protection to get them out of the house. It happens all the time….but they had a hand in it.

I don’t think there will ever be anything to put back in the bottle; at least not over race. Friends, families and workplaces are simply to integrated to have a race war; race is not an issue. Race is only an issue for those using it to attack Trump, get elected (same thing), or for financial gain because it is their job. It bothers me, but does not surprise me, to see the liberal MSM line up to jump on these claims of “White Nationalism”. That’s a non-starter for anyone who has an IQ higher than their age. But the MSM (even FOX) seems to think that is what we want to hear them talk about. I am a Nationalist and not ashamed of it. I am also old and white. From what I see that makes me a hated person by the left and the representatives of the Democratic party. If there are riots, I don’t think they will be race riots (although there will be those that try to label them as such), but there may be violent interactions between the left and Right.

Not yet, but Beto is trying his best to get them started.

Your 1st amendment rights don’t fly out the window unless you throw them there. It’s always possible that you could be falsely accused of threatening someone. But it’s rare for an innocent person to be accused. Cops usually know the whole story (or at least hear all sides); we rarely do. But with threats in Social Media; they are there in writing for Cops, DA’s, Judges and/or Juries to decide on. People threatening suicide is usually a cry for help. The only “help” the cops can give them is to get them to a medical or mental health facility and remove their firearms. Sorry; but that’s what’s going to happen. The rest is up to Doctors, Mental Health workers, clergy, and the family. Some of whom are usually who called the Police because they were in a situation they couldn’t deal with.
