  1. Called in at 3 weeks, was told 2 of 3 checks were in, allow it another 2 weeks. Last Thurs was 5 weeks, no joy. Just got off the phone, 3rd check in and clear, lady on the phone indicated she was going to go ahead and issue, allow 7-14 from tomorrow. Entering mailbox hover mode! Guess I better start a shopping list for Wal-Mart, too ...
  2. I don't use ANY forum's built-in search. Just use Google and add site:tngunowners.com (or whatever site you're mining) to the end of your search terms. That restricts the search to that site.
  3. Uh.. Bad link? Mebby this one is what you wanted? House Votes Guns for Judges, Not for Legislators | Humphrey on the Hill | knoxnews.com
  4. +1.. Would there be room for Bernie Goetz at the bar, too?
  5. Was this one suggested by someone from Humboldt County? Just sayin'..
  6. Curious you mention that.. There was a week's discrepancy between the time I submitted mine and when they indicated they received it. (Completed app on 26th, printed same day, they said received on the 6th...) My thoughts: If they're not sending the apps from the DOS offices to Nashville via USPS, then they may be using couriers / other. If so, I can see them cutting back on the frequency of runs to save some $$. And, when it's received in the Nashville office, it may get stamped with the date they received it, but it may not go in system until it actually starts to be processed. So, you call to check, they may have the physical app, but not see it as received yet in the computer. But, I don't know on either score.
  7. Called last Thurs (3 week mark for me putting in app and prints), was told 2 of 3 BC back clean, should have in 7-14 days, call back if not after that time frame.
  8. Well, it's on the calendar for 3/23/09, but with their recess being called until 4pm on Monday, I don't know if that means they'll vote on it then or ?? http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/default.aspx?BillNumber=HB0962 Or was that note about the gun bills being heard on 4/1 inclusive?
  9. Uhhh.. We don't all drive vehicles with trunks? And it passed!
  10. I will second that..
  11. WOW.. 89:1 for 70 How do we find out who the 1 was?
  12. 46 passed.. Finally..
  13. 46 .... Are they ever dragging it out..
  14. Ah, crap. I thought they were pulling © completely. Gotta agree..
  15. Current code: 39-11-614. Protection of property. — (a) A person in lawful possession of real or personal property is justified in threatening or using force against another, when and to the degree it is reasonably believed the force is immediately necessary to prevent or terminate the other's trespass on the land or unlawful interference with the property. ( A person who has been unlawfully dispossessed of real or personal property is justified in threatening or using force against the other, when and to the degree it is reasonably believed the force is immediately necessary to reenter the land or recover the property, if the person threatens or uses the force immediately or in fresh pursuit after the dispossession: (1) The person reasonably believes the other had no claim of right when the other dispossessed the person; and (2) The other accomplished the dispossession by threatening or using force against the person. © A person is not justified in using deadly force to prevent or terminate the other's trespass on real estate or unlawful interference with personal property. [Acts 1989, ch. 591, § 1.] Now, my take on what you do by removing © is to allow for not just the use, but the threat of deadly force to terminate a trespass / stop a theft. What I've heard (but don't know if this is right, so if someone does know for sure, correct my faulty knowledge) is that under current law if you come out of your house with gun in hand for the "get off my lawn" or "put down my tools" event, you're technically in the wrong as they have not (yet) threatened your life and © says you can't use deadly force in this case. (Of course, when they heft the pry bar and come towards you when you make this request.. That's another show.) By removing ©, I almost think they're allowing you to come out with gun in hand and make the request to cease and desist. Which, in my opinion, is actually going to make for fewer injuries and more peaceful endings on these situations. Come out unarmed, and the trespasser / thief is just as likely these days to try to physically challenge you as they are to leave without incident. Come out with the 12 GA, pumping a shell into the chamber as you clear the doorway, and then ask them to leave? Yeah. (Is there ANYTHING more bowel-loosening for a thief than the sound of a pump shotgun being cycled, especially if they can't tell EXACTLY where it came from?) Or am I completely off base?
  16. Congrats! I made the same mistake back in November... There I was minding my own business, and then my hand, quite by accident mind you, wound up wrapped around a 21SF. "Honest, Honey.. It followed me home!" A few hundred rounds later, and I couldn't be happier.
  17. Yesterday was one week for me.. Lately, it's seemed as if a month goes by every time I blink. The last week it's felt as if there were just too many months in a day for my liking. Hang in there, and don't forget the unwritten rule: at 30 days, call 'em..
  18. That, and make it a "sticky". Oh, wait...
  19. Even in jest that's a VERY BAD idea. If anything happens to any of your collective exes or if they get a real burr up their backside, such things could come back to bite you. When in situations like this (actually, since you also have elected to not be one of the unarmed masses, you need to do this ALL THE TIME) even though you may have done nothing wrong, you have to live on a higher level. The courts seem to be overwhelmingly biased towards women in these kinds of scenarios, and even the slightest whiff of anything out of line on your part will not be fun. You, even as the victim, can wind up trying to explain every element of your life. Why create a problem? As previously mentioned, consult with an attorney. I'd say they'll recommend letting your Father take "point" on this, since the vehicle's registered in his name, it was on his property, etc. Minimize your involvement as much as possible in it.
  20. I don't mind them having "In God We Trust" on the currency. It's not harmed me in any way that I know of. But it's been VERY harmful ever since they removed the statement to the effect of "In Gold We Trust" from it... Same here, and also sometimes obsessive and dyslexic.. So yes, there has been the occasional night where I've lain awake in bed wondering if there really is a dog.
  21. They always preach supply and demand.. Until it's on the labor side. Then they go out of their way to increase labor supply so as to drive down labor cost. What we have now is a Nation of the Corporation, by the Corporation, and for the Corporation.
  22. Website says "no photocopies": http://state.tn.us/safety/driverlicense/dlcitizen.htm I could only get "Certified Copies" issued by the state where I was born, and they took that w/o a problem. I was able to do the form and the fingerprinting earlier today, so now it's the 30 day wait and then call to check status.. The form was quick and easy, but then I've not changed address in the last 5 years. If you have, you'll need to write all your addresses for that time frame on the thing, so be prepared. Total time in DOS office was about 10 mins. Fingerprinting was a no-appointment-needed job at the Knox county offices on Central. Note: They take lunch from 12:00 to 12:30, and won't let you sign in after 3:00. Fingerprints took maybe 5 mins.
  23. Well, it's curious you mention that, since my first thought when looking at the web site was along the lines of "If I can pick one up and take it home, why can't I just download the thing?" Seems like it would save the state some money on printing and handling of forms.. Which probably explains why they're not doing it.
  24. Yeah.. I figure they'll get the website updated in another decade or two.. Just thought I'd share with the rest of the class, in case anyone else thought they'd get to "kill two birds with one stone", so to speak. I'll grab my packet o' papers and cash and head over to DOS again Thurs probably.
  25. Well.. At http://www.state.tn.us/safety/handgun/generalinfo.htm (as of 6:26 on 2/24/2009..) it indicates that you can pick up the application at ANY DL station, but that you have to submit the completed forms at the full service locations: Applications for a new handgun carry permit may be picked up at any Driver License Center location. Applications for a new handgun carry permit can be processed at any full service Driver License Center location. As far as why I'd want to go there to get the form: I was already there to renew registration on one of my vehicles. And for the "why I'd want to take it home": Where would you like to spend the time filling out the form? Quiet at home in your own comfy chair, or in their lobby with a couple of kids screaming their heads off and sitting in one of those chairs that were rejected for use at Gitmo for being "too cruel"?
