A big win for Defense Distributed!

My co-host Mark and I recently got a chanced to catch up with TGO's own Randy Harris ( @Cruel Hand Luke ) to talk about Low Light Training, Tactics and Gear. Randy was our first ever guest on the Shooters Nation Podcast and was kind enough to come back and talk about a subject which is pretty timely for any of you thinking about taking his upcoming FIGHT AT NIGHT class in August, in Dayton, TN. You can listen to the episode on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher and the Shooters Nation website. OR you can listen right here. We'd love to know what you think. If you liked it, please do give us a positive review on iTunes as it helps us out by making sure the podcast rises to the top of searches on things about Second Amendment issues, guns, training, etc.

I recently let go of a few things that were either just holding down space in the safe or distracting me and fragmenting my practice time at the range. I shoot as much now as I ever did. Perhaps more. But my shooting is more focused on getting better with a smaller number of guns. I have been thinking about building something a little more fun out of my old Ruger 10/22 though. Something that would be enjoyable to take to the range and just blister some targets with, cheaply. Magpul stock, TacSol threaded barrel, bipod... Those of you who say you are burned out, do you have an EDC firearm? Do you look at it as a tool or a hobby?

Shooter convicted of 2nd degree murder...
TGO David replied to lock n' load's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
This sort of thing really needs to serve as a reminder to anyone who posts on the Internet, whether on a forum or on Facebook or other social media, or talks boastfully to friends, co-workers, etc. about how they would do a certain thing if put in the position to use a gun for self-defense. The Internet has a long and fairly indelible memory. Friends and co-workers tend to say things when interviewed by the police and/or media that they think would be beneficial to you but in reality aren't. People also tend to incorrectly remember statements you made or the actual specifics of an event, and misreport those things to the officials and media as well. Anyone who hasn't read Varg Freeborn's book Violence of Mind yet needs to. You can get it here: https://amzn.to/2LD991a *Full disclosure, that link gives TGO a small kick-back if you buy from it. Varg does an excellent job talking about those points and also makes the statement several times, as @DaveTN observed, that people generally get the level of justice that they can afford. We ALL would do well to keep all of these points in mind before making braggadocious comments, especially in public settings. Words do come back to haunt people. Further, NONE of us should hope to ever have to take another human being's life. -
I put a tourniquet on something that looked a lot like that this past weekend.

Like I told @KahrMan, I'm going to invite you jackals over and give you some dessert to go along with your uncooked steaks. It's a cake. Enjoy.

Stop at the state border and wipe your shoes off, please.

Mark and I had a chance to sit down with one of the Executive Vice Presidents from Polymer80 this past week and even got some info on upcoming products. I'm not going to spoil the whole thing for you but the words "polymer" and "1911" were mentioned during this interview. https://www.shootersnation.com/podcast/020-dan-mccalmon-of-polymer-80/

Yep! It's GO TIME all the time!

Thanks! Yes, I finally got a chance to shoot it today. My range time was primarily spent zeroing the dot, three rounds at a time. It didn't take long to get it printing right where I wanted it. I am tickled with the way the gun performs overall. The slide functioned flawlessly, and the fit and finish of the slide were perfect. I would like to do a Glock 17 at some point, but I think I might send a M&P M2.0 Compact slide off to Primary Machine and have them mill it for an RDS. It's VERY quick to pick up. I shot a friend's Glock 20 with 3.35 MOA dot today and it was arguably a little more precise but I'm looking for combat accuracy moreso than bullseye shooting out of my G19. For that, I think I would definitely prefer the 6.5 OA dot.

The thing is, though, the Constitution protects us from the government infringing on our rights to free speech, to bear arms, etc. The laws of private property supersede them in certain cases, and web sites are private property. Just as a person has a right to forbid you from carrying a gun onto their private property, a web site has the right to forbid a person from using the full array of words in the language.

That's pretty damned funny! Years ago I ran a forum for performance car enthusiasts here in Nashville. Halloween and New Years Eve parties with the moderating team meant "drunken bannings" which were exactly what they sounded like. Folks got their avatars changed to some really questionable things, temporarily, during the process. It was all in good fun and the members absolutely loved it. Of course, that was back before my kids and before I was trying to be a responsible adult.

I still love my M2.0 Compact!

Just for the record and future reference since this thread seems to have taken a productive turn: Typically I do not tolerate this sort of thread being posted to take a moderator to task for their actions. In the future, if I get to a thread like this before another moderator does, I will ban the person responsible for it without question, without second chance, and certainly without a PM. As MacGyver said, we trust our moderators. If they make a mistake, they generally own it and we fix the problem. But TGO is not a democracy and mob-rule does not hold water here. I won't tolerate it and I won't allow the 100% volunteer staff to be called-down publicly by someone that they moderated for doing what they felt was out of line with our forum Rules. This might be a good place for me to post these links, for everyone's benefit. They appear at the bottom of every page. TGO Rules and Guidelines TGO Registration Terms

A big win for Defense Distributed!
TGO David replied to gregintenn's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The Fed's position on this under the Obama Administration was that 3D printing AR-15 lower receivers was a violation of ITAR restrictions. The government, in this recent ruling, said this is not true and that modern sporting rifles up to .50cal including the AR-15 platform absolutely are not military weapons of war. Read that carefully. The anti-firearms lobby just got their asses kicked. The precedent has now been set that the AR-15 is not an assault weapon. -
So, I know the OP and know that he is operating on a very limited budget and has not owned any firearms himself. My advice to him offline was that if he wanted a DA/SA hammer-fired gun, to get a CZ P-07 since the cost is sub $400 and they have good resale value and aftermarket support. Holsters are relatively easy to come by, magazines aren't difficult to find, and it eats cheap 9mm without any problems. There aren't many reasons to pick a Jericho unless you are just an enthusiast of Israeli weapons or think it looks cool because of appearances in movies, etc. He mentioned an anime series. Anime features aircraft carriers and battleships flying through space, and robots that transform into things. Japanese cartoons aren't where I am going to find my inspiration to buy a gun. The idea that it shoots 41AE is almost as esoteric a consideration as the notion of buying a Jericho in the first place. Literally no one shoots it and I would be shocked to find that ammo on the shelf of many (any?) local stores. Unless you're bench-loading your own ammo... why would this make sense? If you want a ridiculous cartridge based on the .10mm/.40SW case, at last go quasi-mainstream with something chambered in 357SIG. My fear is that he's going to spend what little money he has on a brick that he'll have to carry in a nylon Uncle Mike's holster, and that he won't be able to easily recoup the $500 he plans to spend on it when he gets tired of it and realizes that anything else would have made more sense. The gun is ridiculous. Someone else said it wouldn't be their first, or likely second choice for a gun. I agree. The only people who would buy this are the people who already have everything else and want a novelty. And that's probably after they buy a Desert Eagle, which is equally absurd. I'd skip it. But what do I know?

I'm going to be recording an interview with an executive from Polymer 80 this evening. What questions would you like to hear answered? https://www.polymer80.com/

This is where any recommendations should start.

It's a really nice gun clearly intended for the concealed carrier. Unfortunately, I left pretty much every reason I ever had to carry a 1911 somewhere back in 2008-2010. Still, there are plenty of people who prefer them and as long as it's something they will properly maintain and carry every day, bless them.

That's a really good article. The bit about political inclinations is still a hard pill for me to swallow, but overall it is a good reminder to take a breath, listen, make your case, and then be patient. This quote resonated with me on the heels of this thread: Be mindful of how ostracizing hyper-partisan rhetoric can be, and do your best to control, temper, and orient yourself on social media and in person

500 lumens from an LED emitter powered by a CR123A battery. Runtime is about 1.5 hours. I've got three of them now. Love them!
