US Strike Kills Top Iranian Terror Mastermind Qassem Soleimani
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
I'd really hope we can discuss a world event without it becoming partisan. -
I'm surprised we don't have a thread for this on TGO yet. What are your thoughts on the matter? I think it's long overdue. I keep reading remarks from people who are younger than some of the shoes I have in my closet, to the effect that we don't need to be sucked into another conflict in the Middle East. Some of these kids weren't even swimming in their fathers' loins yet during the late 1970s and don't realize that Iran has been at war with the US since 1977 and we've just not really done much to publicly recognize it over the last 40 years.

VERY true on the legal fees and other worries. That's a big part of the reason why I started carrying a US Law Shield membership for myself and my wife, and why they came on board as a sponsor here at TGO.

You either didn't get the memo, or these links are all wrong. http://bit.ly/35eW5oN -
I used to. I love a good 1911 but capacity trumps caliber. I want as many rounds as possible at my disposal between reloads. If you're thinking 9mm in a 1911 style gun, why not go to a 2011 in 9mm instead? It's the platform you love, just better because it's a double-stack.

What gun are you trying to fit?

Good morning and Happy New Year to all of you. I hope that each of you will resolve to be more purpose-driven with your time at the shooting range this year, and if finances permit that you seek out and participate in formal training in an emergency medical or defensive shooting discipline at least once.

Your argument lacks substance, much like Correia’s qualifications as an expert on self defense. The only thing he’s consistently proven is an ability to appear to be “about that life” without actually being about that life. He was more tolerable when he stuck to just cataloging videos of critical incidents rather than try to sell himself as anything other than a librarian.

You are welcome to your opinion, but in mine John is a hack. He also violated his own practice of supposedly waiting 72 hours before he comments on an incident of this nature. I suppose the fear of losing clicks to his competitors drove him to abandon what I felt like was one of his few redeeming qualities. Not to take anything away from Mr. Wilson, and I certainly am very glad that he was there and was capable of doing what he did, but let's not hastily put firearms instructors on a pedestal and believe for a moment that being one is the only way that a person could perform similarly in such a dire circumstance. The big reason why being an instructor really matters here is that Mr. Wilson likely has spent more time packing and unpacking his bags at a shooting range than most people actually spend AT a shooting range in the first place. There's a reason why I harp so much on training and actually going SHOOTING with your gun. Proficiency comes with experience. Experience comes from doing. And most people need help doing it correctly, at least to begin with. We all should spend more money on ammo, and more time pulling the trigger in purpose-driven drills, than we do on hoarding collections of guns. Mr. Wilson knows how to shoot. He didn't get that way by accident. Any of us is equally capable of becoming proficient enough to do the job if we're willing to put in the focused-time and focused-effort.

Thanks for joining and big thanks for helping support TGO! You are absolutely correct in your two points. I often worry that the majority of gun owners in Tennessee think that it could never happen here, but all it takes is a look at how Memphis and Nashville vote to see that the tail could very easily wag the dog here too.

My last three guns and my daily carry are all "Service" sized guns.

Private Tennessee Mountaintop Base with Airport Runway For Sale
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
If only I hadn't bought so many Glocks. -
Friends... this could be the start of the new TGO World Headquarters and Boogaloo Forward Operating Base if we pool our resources. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/31619/you-can-buy-this-mysterious-tennessee-base-complete-with-mountaintop-runway Highly improved recreational ranch with private airfield, excellent interior roads, live streams, timber, and a large abundance of wildlife. Paved road access and some paved private interior roads. Estimated over $1,000,000 spent in private ranch road network. Improvements: 2,300 x 100+/- airstrip with a control tower and two hangars. Two very nice metal insulated hangars each one is 3,500 +/- square feet. Four nicer modular buildings on property. Large double- winged equipment shed with central insulated shop and office quarters. Fiber optic line had been laid to the interior of the ranch. 4 large, high- elevation observation tower stations scattered throughout the ranch provide magnificent views of both landscape and wildlife. Interior Roads: Over 10.5 miles of engineered high- grade all- weather private roads, some of which are paved. Many more miles of natural base interior roads traverse off the main roads, completing a network to which very few other ranches would compare. With no public roads/access through the heart of the ranch, this provides a very unique, large private setting. The infrastructure improvements including the roads and runway were constructed in 2010. All other improvements on the property were constructed from 2011 to 2012. Ranch Amenities: Water is in abundance with several ponds and streams, including some live streams. The topographic changes throughout the ranch provide many conducive lake site potentials. Water wells provide water to the newer structures. Elevation changes from the peaks of many large hills overlooking vast areas down to numerous creek bottoms. Although there are large draws and big hills, the topsoil is considerably good throughout the elevation changes, which provides excellent growth across the ranch. Land: 3,000 +/- acres of pine timber varying from 8 to 11 years old. 2,500 +/- acres of hardwood timber varying from young to older mature trees. 350 +/- acres of rolling pasture grass fields. Wildlife: Hunting has not been allowed on this ranch for many years. Such a large contiguous block of desirable natural habitat for wildlife without historical hunting pressure is very hard to find. Wildlife is easily viewed from vehicles while driving around the ranch. Morning and evening daylight hours produce consistent viewing of deer and turkey out in the roads. As an example, all the pictures and video of deer where taken one evening over approximately an hour, from a vehicle, while on the ranch. Although wooded now, there are many acres of historical fields on the ranch that could be put back to use for wildlife or commercial farming. The infrastructure, habitat, and wildlife are in place to be utilized as a top end hunting retreat.

It is a hair after midnight as I sit typing this. My family are all asleep, the lights are off save for the soft warm glow of the Christmas lights strung across our fireplace mantle and those wrapped around the Christmas tree across the room. The only sound in the house is that of my own typing on this laptop and a Christmas piano playlist on Spotify softly piped through the speakers nearby. The day before Christmas is officially here and it seems as though, as usual, things have only slowed down enough in the last few days for me to really immerse myself in the sights and sounds of the season. Time to reflect, to absorb, to ponder, and to enjoy. I sure do miss the carefree years of childhood when every moment from Thanksgiving onward built toward a crescendo of CHRISTMAS! Every year I swear to myself that I will slow down earlier and enjoy it more, sooner. Work never willingly lets me, although I have learned to set boundaries and force it to. I'm still not good at it. I need to do better. I suspect many of you reading this can relate. But, lest I sound too dour, I am thankful that I am here, in this moment, enjoying and reflecting and savoring. I did hit the pause button earlier than I have in the past, and gave myself a reprieve for a few days. I've taken my oldest daughter (the oldest at home, at least) with me on a few carefree and whimsical errands to just spend time together and get her excited about the holidays. I've slowed to lie on the floor in our front room and stare out the front door with my 2-year old son at the Christmas lights decorating the house. I've made a few Kentucky Mules to drink and, in the name of the Scientific Method, tried them in varying mixtures as I work to perfect the art. I don't think I've got them right just yet. More work is to be done. For science. I've also served additional rotations on the safety team at my church this season, in an attempt to give back just a little toward a debt that I could never truly repay. It has allowed me more time around people enjoying the holidays, and more Merry Christmas'es than I might have exchanged with strangers otherwise. If I could have just one wish for all of you here on TGO it would be simply for more time for each of you to slow down and enjoy the season, even if that enjoyment only means a quiet refrain between the busyness of 2019 and the busyness of 2020. I hope that each of you finds time over the next few days to spend Christmas the way that you like. Whether that is in the company of friends and family, or serving others, or just quietly but happily alone reflecting on the goodness that still abounds in this world if you look for it. If you are on duty somewhere this Christmas, please accept my thanks. Whether it be in public safety or a 24/7 profession of some other sort that doesn't take breaks, whatever it is you're doing matters to someone - perhaps to all of us. Thank you for doing it. I hope that you have some moment of rest and relaxation in there somewhere. Merry Christmas, TGO! For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. (Isaiah 9:6-7)

Edited quote to shorten it a bit. Rory Miller calls this the "Monkey Dance" in several of his excellent books. He offers a condensed summary of it, substantiating what you said, can be found here: https://ymaa.com/articles/violence-dynamics -
Buy as much of it as you can and stack it deep. I've long said that ammunition is the way that the antis will eventually strangle the 2A.

This is an older story, but with the holidays upon us that often means turning to a ride sharing service to get from place to place, from parties to home, etc. I tend to vote with my dollars and assume some of you might as well. Maybe call a taxi instead. Source: https://www.citylab.com/transportation/2018/03/lyft-will-offer-free-rides-to-anti-gun-rallies/554756 The ride-hailing company Lyft announced Friday morning that it will provide free rides to students attending the March for Our Lives rallies against gun violence, which are being held in cities around the country at the end of this month. In a statement posted on Twitter, Lyft co-founders John Zimmer and Logan Green wrote: Uber will not be offering free trips to March for Our Lives, according to an Uber representative.

BREAKING: Detectives are seeking Michael D. Mosley, 23, for questioning in Saturday morning's double fatal stabbing outside The Dogwood Bar,1907 Division St. The stabbings occurred during a fight outside the bar. The investigation shows Mosley was present. Midtown Hills Precinct detectives investigating Saturday morning’s fatal stabbing of two men during a fight outside The Dogwood Bar at 1907 Division Street are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Michael D. Mosley, 23, who is strongly believed to have definitive information about the murders and is being sought for questioning only at this time. Mosley has been identified as being present both inside and outside of The Dogwood Bar, including when the fight occurred. Mosley is the person who was talking with the woman at the bottom of the screen in the video released by the MNPD Saturday night. The police department has received a number of tips from citizens Saturday and today. That information has led to the identification of the persons seen in the video Saturday night, with the exception of the man in the Nike sweatshirt. Efforts continue to positively identify him. Clayton Beathard, 22, and Paul Trapeni III, 21, were stabbed shortly before 3 a.m. They died after being rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A third stabbing victim, Alvin Jefferson (A.J.) Bethurum, 21, suffered injuries to his eye and arm and is continuing to recover. The dispute began over an unwanted advancement made by a man toward a woman in the bar. Anyone seeing Michael Mosley or knowing his whereabouts is asked to contact the Emergency Communications Center at 615-862-8600, or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Mosley is last known to have lived in Pegram. -
Saturday, December 21, 2019 PayPal has acknowledged that we have discovered a new bug in their payment system related to automatically renewing subscriptions. They are working to resolve the problem and do not anticipate that we, or you, will be required to take any action to correct it. Here's what you need to know: This bug began affecting us toward the end of November and has continued since. It only affects those members who have chosen to establish a "Billing Agreement" with us through PayPal. It does not affect anyone who uses Stripe to pay, or uses a non-recurring PayPal purchase. As soon as PayPal lets me know that it is fixed, I will update this post and remove most of it so that people aren't confused. UNTIL THEN... If you notice that your subscription renewed on PayPal but did not renew here, let me know via a Private Message. Include the date on which your PayPal transaction occurred, if you know. If you don't, no worries - I can find it, it just takes a bit longer. Please give me a few days to get your account squared away manually. I am trying to check TGO daily until they get this fixed, but it may be slower during the holidays. Thanks for your patience! --David

As a general routine, once a year I'll take my carry mags apart and run dry strips of an old t-shirt through them just to clean out any dust that may have accumulated inside of them. I have mags designated for use on the range/classes that I clean more frequently and sometimes more thoroughly, depending on the conditions of the range that session. I keep these mags separate since they get dropped, stepped on, mashed into the dirt, etc. They take more abuse than my carry mags and are going to fail sooner than my carry mags. Since the mean time between failure (MBTF) is going to be shorter for them, I don't want them in my carry rotation. They are of the same make/model/configuration as what is actually in my carry rotation, though, so I can extrapolate from their use how the carry gear is going to perform and hold up.

As a bonus, you can use the MK23 as a framing hammer to build a house if you find yourself on a peacetime mission.
