The range we go to mostly is indoor. You know the one, Drewi. The most I can do there is drop the table on my lane and practice drawing and point shooting. If the place is crowded, I generally omit the drawing and just practice point shooting. Would like to go to an outdoor facility that allowed shooting on the move.

I had the server really loaded down this evening doing some updates. It should speed up a bit now.

Are there any features that you'd like to see?

Ok, it's in place and you can read about it here. -
When you consider that losing just two guns to theft or fire will cost you more than what a decent safe itself would, it's pretty easy to decide to invest in one. I had never heard of SafeHouse but will have to remember them. I do know that Sams sells a Winchester branded safe (made by Granite Safes) that is fairly identical to one that Bass Pro sells as a Redhead brand, but the Sams safe is about $300 cheaper. Most of those are going to be 500lbs easily, so that may limit you since you're in an apartment.

I wear hiking boots if I'm at an outdoor range. Good ankle support and enough tread bite for walking up grassy slopes, etc.
-
I wear the same size pants, IWB carry or not. I just loosen my belt one notch for IWB. My pants are thankfully starting to get a little loose on me again, so that's a good thing I guess.

Great choice of sidearm, and welcome!

How about a feedback system that works without a dedicated forum? I am going to add right now a feature that allows members to leave eBay style feedback for one another. I'll post more on it in a few minutes. -
Nice to have you with us!

Saw this on XDTalk and thought it was funny enough to repost here... Doctors vs. Guns Doctors: The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000 Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000 Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171 Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services. Guns: The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000 The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500 The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188. Statistics courtesy of F.B.I. Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners. Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do." FACT: Not everyone has a gun, but almost everyone has at least one doctor. Please alert your friends to this alarming threat immediatly. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand! Note: Out of concern for the public at large, the statistics on lawyers have been withheld for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention

Only the same things that you need to own any other rifle in TN. Clean record with the TBI and the money to buy it. I have a Bushmaster and have been very happy with it. I've heard that Rock River Arms (RRA) rifles are very good as well.

Crack a window and give a brother a courtesy flush, mkay?

Tennessee law does not require that you inform an officer that you are carrying, but in my opinion it's a good idea. Yesterday I had an experience that more or less reinforces my opinion. On my way home from work I had to stop by a local store to pick up a few things. The particulars of the incident are irrelevant and I'd rather avoid discussing them because (a.) they wouldn't be politically correct and (b.) they are fairly irrelevant to the case. Suffice it to say that a person of a different ethnicity than me thought that I didn't give them sufficient time to get through a crosswalk area and tried to cause a confrontation. I refused to participate, walked straight way into the store, and they thought they would inconvenience me by involving the police. When I returned to my vehicle, I found a local patrol car waiting. The officer was extremely polite and seemed to be predisposed to thinking that his involvement was completely unwarranted before he and I even began to chat. VERY nice fellow. Seriously one of the most professional officers I've ever had the pleasure of talking with. As is routine, he did ask if he could see my driver's license so that he could make sure I wasn't wanted for any murders or anything (which he and I both laughed at). At that time I felt it was best to inform him of the particulars. "I just want you to know, before I reach for my wallet, that I have a handgun carry permit and that I am armed. My sidearm is back near where my wallet is. Do you want me to get my wallet or do you prefer to get it?" This officer never missed a beat. He smiled, and told me "You don't draw your's and I won't draw mine. Deal?" We both laughed, I got my wallet, handed him both my license and my permit and he radioed in the information. While we waited for his dispatcher to clear me, we chatted a bit more about 'nothing in particular' and then with a handshake and a friendly wave from him as he drove away, that was that. Bottom line? Again... VERY nice officer. I hated for him that he was having to deal with what amounted to someone else's poor attempt at using the police to harass a citizen, and he hated for me that I had to go through the motions. He knew exactly what was up and apologized for me having to waste my time. He thanked me for telling him that I was armed, I thanked him for doing his job, and that was all there was to it. I've heard a lot of different stories about how people have gotten harassed by the police after they told them that they had a handgun carry permit and were armed. I guess every officer is different, but this gentleman was the consummate professional and never batted an eye. If anything, I dare say that he respected me more for telling him and perhaps even considered the fact that the vast majority of us permit holders are law abiding citizens. I really appreciated the way the situation was handled and will very likely be writing a letter of thanks to the local PD and mention this officer's name. He's a credit to his agency.

Do you take power potty breaks or something? Don't rush it... it's not a race and you'll blow a gasket. Better to sit there and read while you're in the library.

I agree... the wait is the worst part!

Thanks guys. Yeah, my step-daughter was put on zithromax (z-pac) last week for bronchitis. My wife's had bronchitis too. I started off early with a wide spectrum antibiotic that I had left over from something last fall and I think that helped it from being any worse than it was or lasting any longer than it did. I'm about 95% now. Just a little lingering head congestion. The funny thing is, my workplace gives us flu shots every year. For the past two years, I have missed getting my shot because we were out of town for various reasons on the day that Nurse Ratchet was here. When they offer the shots in 2007, I'm making it a point to be here.

I tend to pick up American Handgunner more often than any of the others. I get American Rifleman by virtue of my NRA membership.

The edge of death is what it felt like. The flu SUCKS.

Hey folks... I've been under the weather the past week nearly and just haven't had the energy to work on any of the features we all want to see added to TGO. I'm slowly but surely getting back into the swing of things and will try to get some momentum going again. A few folks have mentioned items they'd like to see added and I've taken silent note of them. I definitely want to get some more information about Tennessee carry law, firearms statutes, etc. posted for reference purposes. Thanks for continuing to visit!

I've never really entertained the idea of carrying a BUG as a civilian. I do carry a spare mag with my 1911, and will carry a spare mag with my XD45 as soon as the extras arrive.

No camera with me, but... Wallet Keys SOG Flash-II Tanto knife Motorola e815 phone XD45 Compact If it's night time, sometimes I'll stick my Surefire G2 flashlight in a pocket as well.
