  1. No, if you go through the automated system (link in the first post or click the Benefactor icon beneath my own avatar) then it handles every bit of it for you.
  2. You can actually do it through PayPal without setting up a PayPal account. But I'll be adding some alternative payment methods also.
  3. I look forward to hearing your range report.
  4. Years ago I had a Baby Eagle 40SW ... which was basically a CZ clone. I've always thought that the CZ75 design was one of the most ergonomic out there. In fact, the XD's own handgrip reminds me greatly of the CZ.
  5. Whatever you do, don't drop it in the woods!!!
  6. Have you tried a 40SW XD Service yet? I have an XD9 Service myself but often wish it was the 40SW instead. The ammo isn't that much more expensive than the 9mm and the slight increase in recoil isn't even worth noting in my opinion.
  7. I am too. He's already looking at the requirements that I gave him and is going to try to draft something up. This guy is good...really good. I'm sure it will be a very useful feature if he's able to put it together for us.
  8. I bet he thinks twice before posting any garbage like this again.
  9. I would imagine due to the sheer server load that they were causing. When I tried to visit the blog entries earlier, it took several minutes just to download all of the comments. As an admin myself, I would have likely pulled them yesterday for that very reason.
  10. Here's a demo of the software. It's called Review Post and is written by the same folks who make our photo gallery software. http://www.visionmtb.com/forum/reviews/index.php That particular site is a community for mountain bikers. I think it's pretty easy to see how it could translate into a review system for firearms related goods and services. I'm thinking that we would likely have categories for: Firearms Accessories Ammunition Cleaners and Chemicals Shooting Ranges Training Classes etc What do you folks think?
  11. Friends... Several folks have inquired privately as to whether they could help the cause by pitching some money our way to keep TGO afloat. My answer to this point has been that while I appreciated their offer of generosity, I wanted to see if this community could thrive before accepting any sort of donation. The good news is that TGO seems to be thriving nicely. I had suspected that there was a niche that needed to be filled and from all indications so far, I was right. Tennessee's gun owners were indeed looking for a place to gather together online and discuss the issues that are near and dear to our hearts. I'm very happy to be able to provide this forum as a service to our community! As I write this, I cannot foresee any signs that TGO could not continue operating without any outside assistance for the near future. I own the server that this site is hosted on, and our connection to the Internet is stable and affordable. Our operating expenses to this point have been very low. However, there are some new features that I would like to see added as we move forward and some of them will require money. Life is funny that way I guess. We have kicked around the idea of buying software to allow our members access to a "Reviews" system for sharing their report cards on everything from firearms, ammo, supplies, accessories and even gun shops and shooting ranges. This software will cost us $99 to purchase. We also have plans to implement databases for prohibited carry locations in the state of Tennessee and for shooting ranges. I'm not much of a programmer, so I've asked a friend who is to give it a look and get back to me with a quote for building that for us. I'm not sure what he will charge, if anything, but I would like to be able to compensate him for his time and talent. So, in light of all of this... I have decided to implement a "Benefactor" system whereby members who desire to do so may make donations to a general fund which will be used for doing the above and much more in the future. Being a benefactor is entirely optional. It is not required and will never be required for membership here. It is simply a way for folks who feel compelled to help out can do so. In exchange for their generosity, a benefactor will be be given public credit for their kindness by having a special benefactor icon listed in their user profile. It may seem a little cheesy but it's the least we could do. Benefactors will also receive more storage space in our photo gallery. More perks will be added as we think them up. If you're interested in helping, you can visit the Paid Subscriptions portion of the user control panel and go from there. Right now we only accept PayPal but other choices may be added in the future.
  12. I've been looking at OutdoorMarksman as a source for cheap .45acp target ammo. They have some bulk brass cartridge ammo at a price point that is even cheaper than the aluminum CCI Blazer that I used this past weekend. I hope to give them a shot (no pun intended) sometime soon.
  13. I admit that the dot is a bit hard to notice. I just uploaded some new status icons. Tell me what you think of them now.
  14. The status icons already show that. See the screen shot below...
  15. I'm probably going to add a political / legislative section today. As for the shotgun forum, I'll probably hold on that and ask folks to use the Rifles forum until there is enough traffic to warrant it.
  16. Someone in Zumbo's blog referred to his bolt-action hunting rifles as suitable sniper tools. I wonder if that jarred any sense into him.
  17. I had started a thread earlier asking if anyone had used it. Yesterday was my first time out with that ammo and it did very well in all of the XDs as well as my Kimber.
  18. What do you folks think about us adding a Review System here? It could be used for things as obvious as reviewing firearms, but also for things like holsters, cleaners and chemicals, sights and accessories, shooting ranges, etc. I've got a software package in mind for this and it's really nice.
  19. I'm really happy with the aluminum cased Blazer that I bought from Wideners last week. I'll be ordering more!
  20. I use Speer Gold Dot in my 45acp handguns.
  21. This is really making the rounds on the Internet right now. What do you guys think about it? I admit that I replied to the blog along with all of the others who are equally pissed off that "one of our own" has really stepped in it and given the anti-gun contingent invaluable ammo. http://outdoorlife.blogs.com/zumbo/2007/02/assault_rifles_.html Assault Rifles For Hunters? As I write this, I'm hunting coyotes in southeastern Wyoming with Eddie Stevenson, PR Manager for Remington Arms, Greg Dennison, who is senior research engineer for Remington, and several writers. We're testing Remington's brand new .17 cal Spitfire bullet on coyotes. I must be living in a vacuum. The guides on our hunt tell me that the use of AR and AK rifles have a rapidly growing following among hunters, especially prairie dog hunters. I had no clue. Only once in my life have I ever seen anyone using one of these firearms. I call them "assault" rifles, which may upset some people. Excuse me, maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. I'll go so far as to call them "terrorist" rifles. They tell me that some companies are producing assault rifles that are "tackdrivers." Sorry, folks, in my humble opinion, these things have no place in hunting. We don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them, which is an obvious concern. I've always been comfortable with the statement that hunters don't use assault rifles. We've always been proud of our "sporting firearms." This really has me concerned. As hunters, we don't need the image of walking around the woods carrying one of these weapons. To most of the public, an assault rifle is a terrifying thing. Let's divorce ourselves from them. I say game departments should ban them from the praries and woods.
  22. I used some of that and some aluminum CCI yesterday. Good stuff for the range. The price is $10.50 per box of 50rds of the Blazer Brass at our local Wal-Mart.

That was one of the most informative posts that I have seen on this subject matter... EVER. Thank you for taking the time to write it!!!
  24. I think the reason is more simple than that. With permit... You are a law abiding, legally armed citizen. Without permit... You are a criminal, breaking the law. Which do you want to be?

You're right about Kentucky's statutes. I carried all the time to restaurants like Applebees, Logans, etc. with bars back home.
