  1. And I'm sure it would be more clouded in court too. That situation would probably come down to who has the best lawyer.
  2. That's got to be the stupidest reason for not liking a handgun that I have ever heard.
  3. I highly suggest everyone own a copy of John Harris' book Carrying A Handgun For Self Defense In Tennessee. It has a chapter that covers this issue. The short of what Mr. Harris says in the book is that... Tennessee's Common Law Right of Self Defense does not require that the aggressor be armed with a gun, a knife or other weapon before deadly force, including the use of a firearm, would be justified. The common law recognized that even the relative size of the parties involved must be taken into account to determine whether one of them might be justified in using deadly force, including a firearm, against the other. Each factual situation must be separately evaluated in light of the specific facts and circumstances involved: Where great bodily violence is being inflicted, or threatened, upon a person, by one much stronger and heavier, with such determined energy that the person being assaulted may reasonably apprehend death or great bodily injury, he is justifiable in using a deadly weapon against his assailant. It makes no difference whether the bodily violence is being, or about to be, inflicted with a club, or a rock, or with the fists of an overpowering adversary of superior strength and size. Bitner v. State , 130 Tenn. 144, 157, 158, 169 S.W. 565, 568 (1914) That is a direct quote from Mr. Harris' book. He is an attorney, I am not, so therefore I would defer to his understanding of the law and furthermore seek out the assistance of a licensed lawyer for additional interpretation or insight into this matter. Void where prohibited, blah blah blah.
  4. Welcome! The best advice I can give you is to hold and shoot as many different guns as you can prior to purchasing. Rent at the range, go with gun-owning friends who will let you shoot theirs, etc.
  5. Done deal. Please keep us posted on his progress.
  6. Well since we're showing pictures of things we used to own... My 2003 Mach 1: http://www.tennesspeed.net/members/tungsten/03Mach/ My 1998 GT: My 1998 Z71 Extended Cab:
  7. I got rid of my money pits a few months ago. 1998 Z71 kept me busy replacing fuel pumps and intake gaskets, but it was a tank. Traded it and my 2003 Mach 1 off for a Yukon Denali XL. So far it's been reliable but it eats into my shooting money every time I pass a gas station.
  8. Congrats on the new eyes! I hear the biggest challenge for most folks who wore glasses regularly is getting past the urge to push phantom glasses up on the bridge of their nose.
  9. You quite possibly have the best job ever.
  10. Oh, I'm sure it's the extractor. I just don't see paying a local smith for repair when I can get it done for free under warranty.
  11. The last one really explains it all, Voodoo.

You're probably hitting the slide release with your thumb while you're shooting. I'd be willing to bet you a Coke on it. I did this several times before I realized what was going on and adjusted my grip to compensate. The XD's slide release is not optimally positioned in my opinion.
  13. Always happy to have another person join us here! I've had a few Glocks over the past years.
  14. Well, in keeping with this little experiment I washed both of our cars today while wearing the 40c in the CTAC. Still just as comfortable and secure as ever.
  15. I hate my gut. Oh wait, you're talking about the holster.
  16. I had Big Ed's about 20 years ago with my grandfather. He used to travel to Oak Ridge frequently for work (nuclear plant security) and I got to go with him once. Of all the things I remember best about the place, Big Ed's is one of them. We ate in the restaurant then we ordered another one to go for later at the hotel. I'm serious. I'd drive over there for it. For sentimental reasons if nothing else.
  17. Sorry to hear your part of the state got soaked. We probably could have used the rain here too but I'm glad it missed us.
  18. Wow... what amazing weather we had this weekend here in the greater Nashville area. We've had the windows open on the house all day today and just got done grilling some pork chops. Yesterday we met up with some of the local TGO folks and shot indoors at On Target in Murfreesboro. Unfortunately we got to the Stones River Outdoor Resource Center range a little too late; it would have been nice to shoot outdoors. So what have the rest of you folks done to enjoy the weather? Anything? I feel bad for anyone who worked inside.
  19. I'm telling you folks... if you do this at Big Ed's I might just have to drive 3hrs to join you. YUM!!!
  20. Dear TGO Members... Tennessee Gun Owners is your organization. There is absolutely no need to seek administrative approval to organize local get togethers whether it be a trip to the range, lunch somewhere, dinner, a backyard BBQ, or whatever. We want you folks to get together in safe, friendly environments. Invite your non-firearms enthusiast friends! Bring your spouse, your kids, your significant other (but not at the same time as your spouse!). Get folks involved! The only things we ask are that: You assemble peaceably and in a legal fashion. You try to keep the event "Family Friendly" ... i.e. not at the local nudie bar You take pictures and post them in our gallery so everyone else can enjoy your fun! Please remember that if you assemble as TGO members, you're in essence representing this community. Do your best to put your best foot forward in the spirit of promoting a positive image of firearms owners and enthusiasts in the great state of Tennessee.
  21. Southpaw wants to know if that's what a new dining room set is supposed to look like. I told her it's the Tactical Version.
  22. There's an area in particular over here that I keep thinking about. Just not sure what I'd have to go through in order to get a business loan and/or backers.
  23. I saw a bumper sticker the other day that I'd almost gladly put on my truck if it weren't for the fact that I don't want it to get keyed or firebombed. It had the Arabic writing for the word "ISLAM" and then in English said "Religion of peace, my ass." That sums up my thoughts on the issue. But I'm kind of closed minded like that I guess.
  24. You apparently have a very close extended family. This isn't Arkansas Gun Owners! Please God tell us it's a typo.
