You can strip the M&P pretty much the same way you do a Glock or XD by pulling the trigger on an empty chamber. OR you can use the sear deactivation lever inside the magwell. I tend to do it more often by the former than the latter just because old habits die hard.

It's only a matter of time now before you can add another expensive hobby to your repertoire.

I have been on the fence about this for a while now and would like some feedback from you folks. What would you think if we offered banner ads for sale to businesses that provide goods and services for firearms enthusiasts? We could also donate banner space to charitable organizations for events like the American Cancer Society's Celebrity Shoot coming up later this year. The reason I've been on the fence is because sometimes banner ads can be a bit obtrusive. I absolutely would not want to do it in such a way that it's a detriment to anyone's experience here at TGO. But I also have clicked a lot of banner ads on other gun sites and have purchased some stuff for my guns as a result. I don't mind ads so much when they are representing things that are of relevance to the site in question. As for why we'd want to do it in the first place, that's fairly simple... #1 - It would help raise money that could lead toward us incorporating TGO, which could be important as time passes and we start looking at doing things like TGO sponsored events. Corporations provide a good shelter for the sake of liability, insurance, etc. #2 - It would help raise money that would be used for things like "TGO Gear". People have asked about hats, polo shirts, t-shirts, stickers, sew on patches (for shooting sports vests I think?), whatever. Those things all cost money to set up and make the initial purchase. #3 - It would help fund software purchase and renewals and other such ongoing operating expenses. Our expenses are actually quite low, so this is really a minor thing. The only way I can forsee operating expenses increasing is if we had to find a different place to host the site. Anyway, I just wanted to toss this out on the table and see what you all think. This is your site so I don't want to go screwing it up.

I learned a long time ago that it's those small guys you've got to worry about. A mutual friend of a friend in highschool was a local amateur boxer at the Boys Club. Kid came from the wrong side of town, but was one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet. Also one of the most dangerous to pick on. And FAST... oh my God was he fast. I watched him try to defuse a situation several times one night at the shopping mall where all of us hung out. A much larger black guy had picked Rocky out of the crowd (honest to God that's his name) because he was small and just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Black guy started mouthing off, then start pushing and shoving him. Rocky gave him fair warning at least a half dozen times to leave him alone. Black guy wouldn't have any of it, and kept pushing. The way Rocky tore him apart was part artwork, part sheer brutality. He wore that guy's head and ribs out like a speed bag in the span of mere seconds. I seriously think he hit him more than 20 times in before the big black guy knew he'd even been hit the first time. He went down like a felled tree as soon as Rocky stopped hitting him. Pretty much all of us who witnessed it learned two really valuable lessons. Small guys can really whip your ass big time, and when Rocky told you to stop, you'd be smart to do it.

The Smith & Wesson M&P handguns are still new enough to market that not very many of the more recognizable manufacturers are producing sights for them yet. Other than Novak which OEMs the sights to Smith & Wesson, no other manufacturers have tritium night sights. In fact, supply from Novak is even so scarce that S&W is not selling the complete front/rear tritium sight set as upgrade pieces. The only piece you can buy through authorized S&W armorers is the front night sight. I wasn't real pleased with the factory Novak sights -- am I ever pleased with factory sights? -- so I was searching for something to replace them with. I happened to stumble across the 10-8 Performance sights mentioned in a thread on the M&P Pistol forum so I took a chance and ordered one. The 10-8 sight is a replacement rear sight only. It has no dots, just a U shaped channel or aperture, and has serrations to minimize if not eliminate glare. The beauty of this system, to me, is that it gives you two less things to distract your eye from the front sight. No rear dots, just the simple U shaped channel. Your eye is immediately and naturally drawn to the front sight just as it should even with a three dot system. If you can see the dot in the "U" then you pull the trigger. It's that simple. The only upgrade I anticipate doing at this point is ordering one of the factory Novak front tritium sight blades for each of our M&P handguns, and two more of the 10-8 sights for the two guns not already equipped. Range Report... I installed the 10-8 sight on my M&P 40 full-size by myself. No gunsmith needed. It was a simple task accomplished in my garage with a bench vice, some cardboard shims to protect the slide, a hex key and a jeweler's hammer. Total time to remove and replace was about 10 minutes, including time to round up the tools. Tonight I got to take the M&P 40 out to the range and put 200 rounds through it. The gun had only had 100 rounds put through it previously, so it's still in the break-in period. But I'm happy to say that at 300 rounds total so far, there have been no failures of any kind. Great gun! I took to the 10-8 sight immediately. There was no learning curve and it really is as simple as "see the front dot, press the trigger". My shots were exactly where I was aiming and it took no effort to blast the centers out of the Shoot N See targets. Very fun! The Verdict... I'm definitely ordering more of these for the other two M&P automatics. Hell I may even order one for my Kimber 1911. It only makes sense to have a standardized sighting system on all of the handguns right? I can see why this sight design is so popular with competitive shooters, police and military operators. It does away with the three-dot system that tends to make your brain do a little too much thinking, and puts in it's place a system that appeals to our base lizard brains. Dot, hole, bang. During my first week at work at my job, I walked to lunch with the guy I was replacing. On our way back to the office, I kicked something metallic across the pavement. It turned out to be a couple of spent 9mm casings. The outgoing employee said "Oh yeah we find those here all the time. If you look above the CEO's door inside the building you'll see a bullet hole." Sure enough, there's a bullet hole above our CEO's office door. 2nd floor, brick building. It came through a window down the hallway one night after hours. So... yeah, my employer is ok with us carrying.

You know what to do. And I want to shoot it when you do.

I do like the looks of the new Magpul Masada, though. Very well thought out system.

I'm glad someone else experienced that too. I thought maybe it was just me! But I did love that XD45C... just didn't love the expense of feeding it +200rds of ammo every week practicing with it. It's cheaper for me to practice with .40SW, and I like to practice at least once every two weeks with my carry gun to build up muscle memory.

You know, Joe... this means we've got to get together and go shooting sometime.

I'm in exactly the same boat. I suffered an eye injury in '91 and absolutely have to shoot rifle left-handed. Handguns I can generally shoot either.
