There's a gun shop nearby that does something similar in respect to % of sale price + fee. I don't do business with them as a result of that. I can understand that a guy has to make some money, but this is a service that really doesn't cost them anything. They have no overhead involved and only clerical work with filing the appropriate papers with the ATF and the State background check. I like to support the local gun shops too. I've done so quite a bit. But I am also not scared to look on the Internet and see if there is a better deal. My decision process generally goes like this: 1. Add cost of Internet gun + shipping + FFL fee + TBI background check. 2. Compare to cost of gun locally + tax + background check. 3. Are they within $50 of each other? 3a. If so, buy locally 3b. If not, buy from the Internet. If the local guy can't or won't compete for my business within reason, then I take my business elsewhere.

Congrats on the new firearm and on the training! We've got an XD9 4" and it's a fine weapon. I think you'll enjoy it.

Boomhower found a page at the GlockFAQ that has a collection of targets that you can download and print off on your computer. These are all Adobe PDF files so you will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader program to view and print them. TARGETS: http://glockfaq.com/targets.htm In the past, I have used some of these and just glued them to larger pieces of cardboard to give them some rigidity. This makes it easier to run them down indoor range target trollies and makes them more resistant to flapping around in the wind outdoors. Thanks for the link, Boomhower!

Took my 13 year old son shooting tonight at the local indoor range. He has shot a .22LR at camp before and has shot my .223 and even my .30-06 rifles in the past but never shot a handgun. After we reviewed the basics of firearms safety and I showed him the pertinent information about how to properly handle a handgun, I worked with him on some dry firing exercises, how to use proper stance, use the sights, press (not pull!) the trigger, etc. I loaded one round into the full-size M&P 40 and he squared off with the target at 7 yds. First shot was dead center into the red zone. We proceeded to fire about 20 rounds, one at a time. After he was comfortable with the recoil of the gun and I was confident that he was doing fine, we moved to two rounds at a time in the magazine. By the end of the session with the 40, he was loading four rounds into the mag on his own, racking the slide, keeping his finger out of the trigger guard until time to shoot, and putting all four rounds into a decent grouping. He didn't shy away from trying the .45acp and commented that it did have a little more kick than the .40SW but that he was still ok with it. He manged to put all of his four .45acp rounds into a 4" diameter Shoot n See target at 15 yds. We topped the night off shooting the snot out of the Ruger 10/22 and clearing jams. I've really got to send that rifle off for service. I also really need to go ahead and buy a .22LR handgun. Anyway... I'm really proud of him. He did great! PS: Check out that grip style! He got it right instantly with me only showing him once. Thumbs forward, hands locked together, weak hand shoved up tightly beneath the trigger guard.

I don't think I'd give over $250 for a 2nd Generation G21. The 3rd Generation adds the accessory rail and finger grooves on the grip front strap. The 21's are honkin big ass guns and really live up to the Glock's unfortunate reputation as feeling like a "block" in your hands. For not much more than the asking price you listed, you could get a brand new G21 'SF' with the new slimmer frame. It's not that much slimmer, but it does fit the hand a little better. Still a really big gun.

I know that a few of us on the TGO Staff have been wanting some business cards to hand out when appropriate, so I made some up. I am going to attach the business card sheet to this post as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file that you can download and then print out on your color or black & white printer at home. Just wondering what some of you are using for IDPA. Description, modifications, pictures... post it all. I'm slowly transforming my full-size M&P 40 into a range toy. It's getting a 10-8 rear sight and a HiViz green fiber front sight, and I am thinking about sending it to Dan Burwell for his famous $50 trigger job to smooth it out.

No, but more details are forthcoming. I'll post it here as soon as I have it. Hornet Handler, Len, Len's girlfriend and I were invited to attend the kick-off event for this last night. We did attend and I was encouraged by the enthusiasm that I saw from the top all the way down. I'd love to see as many of us as possible get involved by forming teams or participating individually. Again, great chance to shoot with fellow TGO members (and celebrities if you're into that sort of thing) as well as support a good cause.
