    I have installed a modification that I think really streamlines the User Control Panel (User CP) here on the TGO Forums. Pictures do it better justice than my explanation will, so read along... The first thing you will notice is that if you click the User CP link in the navigational bar, you are shown a drop-down menu: You can quickly jump to the more popular items in the User CP from this drop-down menu or you can click on the full link for User Control Panel at the top of the drop-down to go to the CP itself. When you go to the full User Control Panel, you will see that the menu bar on the left side of the screen has been rearranged to give prominence to the Private Messaging system. This part of the Control Panel is by far the more common reason for entering the control panel in the first place, so it only makes sense to feature it prominently. It's a subtle change to the overall scheme of the forum, but I think it is one that uncomplicates life a little more. And anything that does that is a good thing.

I put all e-mails and phone numbers lower down on the list. David I have just gotten off the phone with Rep. Mike Bell which is sponsoring my bill in the House HB 0132 (Allows Handgun Permit holders to carry in Cherokee National Forest and other WMA's He said the bill has a really good chance to pass IF it can make it through the HOUSE BUDGET committee. He said the BEST method to ensure passage is to get as many people as possible to call the MEMBERS OF THE BUDGET COMMITTEE. and tell them to SUPPORT and PASS HB 0132 the bill that will allow Handgun permit holders to carry in WMA's. Please call the Budget committee number below and then also call (and e-mail) EACH of the committee members.     I know people love their dogs and Pit owners tend to be very loyal to their pets... but I've got a cure for the ones that attack people unprovoked. You can guarantee that any large dog that comes near me or my family with a menacing air about it will get introduced to at least two.

    As you know Len, my latest acquisition has CT laser grips on it. I can see the "tactical" value of them easily but I see a lot more "practical" value for training purposes. It's really easy now to practice good trigger control while dry firing. When the dot moves, you know you goofed. Plus it's a lot of fun to drive the cats nuts with the laser.

    You're going to have to do that with me watching. We were shooting targets about that size with the AR's last weekend at 100yds and the target itself barely filled the smallest aperture on the rear sight. If you're hitting a 1x2 at 100yds offhand, I'm going to be seriously impressed.

The second would work for that too but isn't as small, but might be a better choice for someone also wanting to use it in a practical pistol competition of some sort. Both are in the $1,000 MSRP range which is typical of a mid-end 1911 style handgun.

    Folks... Lately I have noticed something that I feel needs to be addressed. I hope that you will all read this with an open mind and set aside any predispositions you have for at least the amount of time that it takes you to get to the bottom of the page. We have a training facility here in middle Tennessee that offers a slew of different firearms related classes. Some of those classes are geared toward practical application in the civilian self-defense world, and other classes are geared toward professional "tactical" occupations that many of us will never work in ourselves. I tend to think of training facilities like this as being service providers, and as with any service provider, you are going to have good reviews and bad reviews because everyone has their own different opinion on what constitutes good service. Or in this case, good training. Some of us are aware that one of the parties involved in the formation of this training facility has some baggage assigned to their reputation. Merely searching the Internet for this person's name brings up numerous hits where an incident in Iraq is discussed ad nauseam. It's easy to find both supporters for and detractors against this person, and the facts of the incident have become so muddied by the hype and hyperbole surrounding it that it's almost impossible to tell truth from fiction, fact from slander. The opinion you form of that one person based off of what you read on the Internet is your business. However I do feel that it is a bit unfair to crucify an entire organization of people (trainers) because of what you think of one guy, regardless of whether that one guy is the CEO, President or Founder. I might happen to think that Bob Lutz is a complete jackass but I am not going to say that General Motors sucks as a whole because he happens to a prominent figure within that company. Doing so would be unfair to the other employees and to the products that they produce. Likewise I would ask that everyone please at least consider taking the same moral high ground in the case of this particular training facility. Disliking one person is your prerogative. Criticizing an entire organization because of that one person shouldn't be. It dilutes the validity of getting good training somewhere, anywhere and ultimately will push people away from this forum. I don't think we want that to happen. That's my complete, unsolicited opinion on the issue. No one asked me to post this, no one even hinted that I should. Take it with a grain of salt if that helps.     I'm sure Shay would be happy to post some more photos from other classes, but after speaking with him yesterday it is fairly obvious that he's starting to feel like he can't win for losing around here. He posts photos of things burning and blowing up because people generally enjoy seeing that, and the photos end up getting picked apart. He posts pictures of people shooting in a Fighting Pistol class, in the rain, and people comment that it looks like someone had their finger on the trigger at the wrong time. If I were in his shoes, I'd be a little dismayed as well. Maybe if folks cut him some slack, he'd post more photos of whatever you all want to see.

    If I had to pick just one gun and say it would probably be right up your wife's alley I would say... 9mm 1911. Single stack, decent caliber, external safety which a lot of women seem to prefer, and based off the gun that God himself crafted and then bestowed upon John Moses Browning atop Mt. ACP years ago. It's no coincidence that guys named Moses get all the cool stuff from God. And it's also no coincidence that many of the top competitive shooters still favor the 1911. I'd think it would do everything she wants and more. You'll probably end up trying to borrow it a lot yourself and end up getting pistol whipped when it turns up missing and she finds it in your possession.
