Mmmm... 40mm handguns. Sorry, I was bored at the moment.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but wouldn't carrying on the State Capitol premises = jail time?

Jon, welcome! Run, do not walk... to the nearest U-Haul center and move to Tennessee if California is where you currently call home.

Ok, I've really got to get this off my chest... #1) Those were different times in a different political climate dealing with totally different issues. #2) It was widely accepted among forward thinking people in the era of Segregation that Segregation was wrong and went against the notion that God created all men equal. Slavery had long since been abolished, and the nation at large was trying to turn away from narrow-minded thought patterns that continued to "enslave" people of color. That grass roots belief provided a sturdy foundation upon which men like Martin Luther King Jr. could build the Equal Rights movement. #3) There is no such widely accepted forward thinking about private gun ownership in the United States at this time. It is my own personal belief that we, as supporters of our interpretation of the 2nd Amendment (the interpretation that we feel is correct and in keeping with the spirit of the Amendment as expressed by our forefathers -- namely that private citizens shall be afforded the right to bear arms) are in the minority. The Liberal Left, the media and whomever else you want to accuse of being complicit, have poisoned the thinking of the typical "progressive American" and made them believe that guns are evil and that citizens have no need for them. Firearms have been villainized and those of us who own them have been labeled as everything from backwoods, knuckle dragging redneck cromagnons to neo-nazi militant extremists hellbent on bringing about homegrown terrorism. So we, as gun owners, don't typically enjoy the same moral or ethical support that say... the gay rights advocates do. It's trendy to be gay. It's brutish and uncivilized to own a firearm. See my point? Anyone who contrasts the current state of affairs of the fight for the preservation of the historically accurate interpretation of the 2nd Amendment with the trials and tribulations of the Equal Rights movement really doesn't have a firm grip on what we're facing. They are two are totally different battles and ours must be won through totally different tactics. Activism through civil disobedience will only further deteriorate our chances of success. Mark my words. Of course, that's just my opinion and I could be totally wrong.

You're no SWAT wannabe... otherwise you'd have all of your weapons listed in your signature and would have a picture of yourself in camo face paint as your avatar. I'll artificially bump your account past the 10 posts so that you can put your stuff in the trading post forums.

If you will re-read Reef's post, he said he did his by mail. He didn't say he did it online. That's why I linked you back to the form (online) that you can download and mail back. It's an imperfect system.

http://www.state.tn.us/safety/handgun/handgunfaqs.htm#renew They have a link to the form there.

A little gel, some layering... you'll be as tactisexual as a French commando.

Nice. I had no idea that you also owned an XD. Now about that Hero Gear shirt... Shows you how much I search, huh? Welcome, Oleg!

Heyyyy... that's not a SIG 239 on your hip. That looks a lot like an XD. Spill the beans, bucko. Someone should invite him to sign up here!

They issue it to you on the spot. Or they did me when I re-did the address on mine after moving a few years back. I need to renew mine in November as well.

It is indeed 10 posts. It just helps keep folks from signing up for the sole sake of spamming us with for-sale advertisements. I hope everyone understands.

For me, going about my activities in peace means not being hassled by the police, security guards, store clerks, store management or other members of the public at large. Like it or not, even here in the South it makes the average soccer mom very uncomfortable to be around someone who is carrying a gun but not wearing a uniform or a badge. It's a social stigma. In my opinion, one must sometimes forgo the notion of experiencing the utmost comfort in their attire when they make the conscious decision to carry a handgun. IWB can be almost as comfortable as OWB, but the comfort of going armed albeit concealed is far more important to me than the minor irritance of having my handgun's grip poking me in the flab occasionally. Life is about making concessions, sometimes. I think there are reasons and excuses on both sides of this discussion. I really can't argue the tactics side of this since I've never openly carried and subsequently become involved in a firefight, but I can definitely support the idea that it does "scare the horses" as you put it. Ultimately I think Marswolf is right in his prediction that ritual open carry is not what the legislators had in mind and that abuse of this provision will result in seeing that provision repealed. And while MolonLabeTN in particular has been vocal about unexercised laws being useless, I would have to counter that the reality of legislature is that laws are interpreted by the "spirit of the law" as well as just by their wording. While we might think we're in the right to the letter of the law itself, the spirit of the law may read entirely differently. Just my $0.02 on the subject.

I had no idea Oleg Volek was a Nashville resident.

Thanks. At Buford Tune's office?

When you consider that the cost of most handguns of quality is above the $400 mark and that shooting ~100 rounds a month of ammo for practice carries at least a $20 price tag, it seems reasonable to assume that most folks can afford more than one holster. I'd invest in an IWB holster if all I had was an OWB holster.

I missed the last one. I'll try to go this time. What date is it listed for?

Angelo (Hornet Handler here) had a Springfield mil-spec 1911 and seemed to really like it. From what I have seen of Springfield's non-XD handguns, I don't really think you can go wrong if that's a gun that appeals to you feature and price-wise.

Love the CDP The Nighthawk is nice too though.

Welcome, Dave! Always good to see another Dave showing up. It makes it easier for me to disappear into the crowd when someone says "David/Dave did it!"

I'd really like to own an M&P 45 but I am waiting to see if Smith releases a smaller form factor. Preferably a mid-size sort of like Springfield did with the XD45C. I really like my M&P 40 and 40c and think my wife's 9c is pretty cool too. As soon as they start producing the .357SIG barrels, I'll buy one to swap into my 40c.

Congrats! I had a P229 .40SW once and loved it!

Ron, very glad to have you among us. It's amazing, yet sad, how much life and the world in general has changed since you were able to tote your rifle to school as a boy.

I suppose the death penalty seemed a little too steep to the jury? Stuff like this makes my blood boil.
