  1. Got to give Joe and the rest of the gang at Hero Gear in Winchester, TN big thanks for making us Nashville folks feel welcome and for taking care of us today. Hornet Handler and I drove down this morning to visit Hero Gear and lighten our wallets a little. The visit was well worth the drive down from Nashville and I can't say enough good things about the Hero Gear HQ, the selection of firearms and gear available or the guys themselves. Joe even participated in a little Glock bashing while we attempted to convert another poor lost soul to the Church of John Moses Browning. I'm now the owner of an über-sexy HK P2000 in .40SW with the LEM trigger. My search for the perfect replacement for my long gone Glock 23 is now over. <insert angelic chorus here> If you look up the term "bad assery" in the dictionary, you're going to see a picture of a Heckler and Koch firearm ... probably in Samuel L. Jackson's hands. Hero Gear rocks. Seriously. Go visit them sometime; it's worth the drive!
  2. Easiest way to make sure the new sights go into the same place is to place a piece of masking tape just in front of the rear sight and just behind the front sight on the slide itself. Mark on the tape where the front blade and the rear notch are on the factory sights. Then push the new sights back to those locations.
  3. It's only going to get worse.
  4. The dovetail in a Kimber 1911 is cut to "Kimber specs" so you will need sights made specifically for the Kimber or your gunsmith will have to modify the dovetail on the sights themselves. If you can find some locally, I can install them for you the next time you're in the Boro. Or you can order some sights off the 'net and get a competent gunsmith near you to do them. It's really not that hard. I like Meprolights for the traditional 3-dot night sights. But my absolute favorite is the Heinie Straight-8 sight. Basically it's a tritium dot front sight with a slightly smaller tritium dot rear sight. You stack the dots to make an elongated figure eight and press the trigger. Very quick and not as distracting as the 3-dot system. I am putting a set on my SW1911 as soon as they arrive. Edit: Link to Heinie Straight-8 for Kimber 1911
  5. Ok, it now works as I described in post #2.
  6. This info is wrong. I just tested and confirmed that for a user w/o moderator abilities, this doesn't work. Odd. If you want the thread title changed, let me know what you want it changed to. In the meantime I'll be trying to fix that.
  7. I wonder how many of them work in IT. The rest probably work at Waffle House.
  8. You might be a nerd if...
  9. Edit the first post in the thread. Change the title there.
  10. Zero problems and I've used the hell out of them in USPSA single stack a few times.
  11. As you can see in that pictorial, CMC mags use split metal followers. The slide stop, being a blade-like leg of steel or other metal, presents a sharp metal on metal contact with the firearm that has been proven to damage the feed ramp or score the slide on some 1911 handguns. The plastic no-tilt followers in the Wilson Combat mags prevent that.
  12. I'm not a fan of CMC mags at all. Wilson Combat all the way for me.
  13. Reposted from another forum... As mentioned in the After Action Report for the Rob Haught Shotgun Course, Wilson Combat is planning on releasing a new and improved 8-round 1911 Magazine. Based on what little information we have, the magazine seems extremely promising. Wilson Combat has addressed many of the weak points of their ubiquitous 47Ds that had set the industry standard for so many years. These upgrades include: 1. Thicker magazine body/tube. No longer can you flex the body with just finger pressure. The witness slots have been moved toward the rear of the magazine, presumably to increase overall strength in the body. 2. Longer magazine body to accommodate a longer and more powerful magazine spring. 3. Longer, more powerful magazine spring has at least four more coils than the existing spring 4. New redesigned follower design holds the last round in position and is more stable than the original. 5. Updated basepad design to fit the longer body. 6. Numbered witness slots on the magazine body. I am excited to see this new product come to market, since it addresses many of the concerns we have had with the 47D. Please don't call Wilson Combat inquiring when these will hit the market. They should be available sometime in September 2007, and we will keep you posted with up to date information as we receive it. Thanks!
  14. You'll have to order it from Comp-Tac ($70) but turnaround is like 5-7 days max. www.comp-tac.com
  15. I do hope you will consider writing some sort of article on the technicalities involved in converting your AR to a SBR, and the mechanics of it even, once you're done. I'm sure there are others who would value that sort of information.
  16. I hear ya. Maybe a Remington 870 Express just for lefties? LINK I bet you could put a shorter barrel on it (plenty available) for home defense and then swap on the bird-barrel for hunting.
  17. He's the first guy to deny farting too, I bet.
  18. Hmmm... do you want an autoloader or a pump shotgun? I really like my Remington 870 a lot and I shoot it left handed out of necessity. So far, no problems doing so. It would probably be a little more problematic if it were an auto since it would stay attached to my cheek while ejecting spent hulls.
  19. I'd wish you a happy birthday, but looking at those pictures it seems my words would be moot at this point.
  20. Not many people have used it yet.
  21. Creeky... I expected to see your name signed to this one! "A Salt Weapon" ... assault weapon...
  22. This is just too funny. It is a website where they have a webcam set up to "watch" an Assault Rifle standing in the corner of the room in the hopes that someone might catch it committing some act of violence. From the site: Volunteer We need you! Due to our limited budget and staffing, we are not available to monitor these assault weapons around the clock. We depend on you, our supporters, to help us maintain our vigil with the assistance of our webcam. Helping is easy - you simply need to load this page regularly. Bookmark it. Make it your browser's default page. Check it every night after you tuck your children in. It's their lives your assistance might save. You could be the one that spots the assault weapon violence. Site is at: http://www.assaultweaponwatch.com/
