Welcome, neighbor. Fellow Smyrna-ite here as well and I shoot at On Target fairly often myself.

Hmmm... the idea has merit.

You too eh? Oh wait... you're probably talking literally instead of figuratively. -
TFA Nashville Chapter: October 2007 Meeting
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Events and Gatherings
I really hate that I missed the meeting last night. I was at work until nearly 6:50 and by the time I left, I was well past the exit ramp I would have needed to take when I remembered that the meeting was happening. This week and the past two have just been completely FUBAR for me. I'll do my best to be at the November meeting. Was an agenda for it discussed? -
This is ridiculous. Fred, obviously no one has deleted your posts. Your accusations to the contrary are baseless and rather insulting. Furthermore, "insulting" seems to be your weapon of choice in this thread as you continue to attack the person via name calling rather than stick to just attacking the issues. I would ask that you refrain from doing this and adjust your tactics. If you find that you cannot conduct yourself in a manner befitting an adult, then I will remove your ability to post for a short period of time so that you can reflect upon it some more. It's your choice.

TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Events and Gatherings
Well as luck would have it... I was not able to leave work early enough this evening to attend. If would be nice if someone who did would post a recap. -
Mmmmm... grenade launcher...

We're glad to have you!

Nope... there's no end to it. The sooner you come to terms with that, the sooner you can get started collecting.

Welcome, Clark. Perhaps we can do a banner exchange to cross promote each site if you're interested? Very glad to see someone picking up where packing.org left off!

Gubment thinks NASCAR fans are disease-ridden
TGO David replied to shaftbass's topic in General Chat
Guys guys guys... anyone who puts on a uniform and serves this country, from Special Forces all the way to the Coast Guard, deserves a modicum of respect for asking not what their country could do for them etc etc. Everyone thinks their branch of Service is/was the best and they all make fun of everyone else. I suggest a group hug and a round of Kumbaya. Unless you're afraid of getting a big GAY hug from someone. -
More anti-Semitic rambling from another Iranian nutjob
TGO David replied to Marswolf's topic in General Chat
Eh... I guess conversation about yet another Iranian nutjob isn't completely void of value. I'm going to split those comments away from the original thread and create this new thread instead. If people want to talk about it, they can do that here. -
Same here. But I'll pay for shipping to get some in the meantime.

Those are the questions that came to my mind as well.

Pretty much getting bent over and run through a few times. -
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) - The Saudi Arabian government will temporarily release 55 prisoners recently transferred from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and will give each of them about $2,600 to celebrate the upcoming Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, a newspaper reported Saturday. Saudi Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz granted the temporary releases from detention centers in Saudi Arabia so the prisoners could spend time with their families during the holiday in mid-October, the Okaz newspaper reported. They will return to police custody after the holiday and will be referred to Saudi courts at end of this month for upcoming trials, the paper said. Sorry to hear this. As someone in the IT industry myself, the thought of losing my job scares the hell out of me. There are jobs out there, it just may take some creative beating the bush to find the good ones. Good luck!

I can see where being able to reload under pressure is a critical skill. Hardware failures do happen and Murphy's Law always rears its ugly head at the worst possible time. For example, the new M&P automatics have well documented problems with a "mag drop" issue where the magazine will spontaneously and unexpectedly drop free of some handguns while the handgun is being fired. Smith & Wesson remedies this with an improved magazine catch retrofitted to older models on a case by case basis. New models reportedly don't have the issue due to evolutionary design improvements. A person should know what to do if their hardware fails for some reason and they should be able to do it under stress. Fortunately I think we can all agree that the only way to improve our odds of doing anything under stress is to hammer the response program into our brains and muscle memory through repeated training.

I don't disagree with those as being needed abilities that someone should acquire very soon after deciding to go armed.
-
I see. Well, I must fall into the category that everyone else in this thread has fallen into by discussing that other angle too. Basic gun skills that a person needs to have if they are going to carry: Alertness to their surroundings The will to survive The common sense to de-escalate when possible The ability to hit a man-sized target at 7 yds minimum* * - greater distances are gravy Is this post better?
-
No, did you post something useful? I kid, I kid. Edit... Ok so I just went back and skimmed your posts. Where did you say something that would have lead you to believe that my post indicated a failure to comprehend your point? From what I've read, you have been arguing the probability of an armed citizen needing to know advanced gun handling skills. That's a fine point to argue, but I think you can distill the issue to an even simpler level which is what I tried to do. I believe that the theory of "creep" has merit. When the government gets involved in an issue and makes laws to address it, their influence and meddling eventually "creeps" into other areas that weren't intended to begin with. We need less government, not more.

The State already has a capability certification as part of the Handgun Carry Permit process. It's called being able to get 30 of 50 shots into the black area of a B-27 target at a certain distance. Should re-certification be mandatory? Well, sure! But let's also make sure that we start requiring re-certification for Driver's Licenses as well. There are damn sure more people out there injuring and killing folks with cars every day than there are people killing folks with guns. Let's start the re-certification process where it would do the most good since any such routine re-cert process will carry a huge procedural overhead for the State to implement and enforce. Meanwhile, let's be socially responsible as HCP holders and gun owners, and encourage each other to strive to shoot better, shoot more accurately, and be more proficient with our weapon(s) of choice. We can remedy the lack of expertise on our own. We really don't need the State being our nanny.

No worries... it was worth repeating!
