I've used one to get my .30-06's scope "on the paper" and then proceeded to dial it in the old fashioned way from there. Really, that's all the manufacturers recommend that you use it for anyway. Just to get it on paper at a certain range so that you can save your ammo for tweaking it.

BTW... I need to go dig up that thread where the Nighthawk Custom owner received his 1911 after a few weeks of waiting and the frame-to-slide mating tolerances looked like the pieces had been machined with a dull hatchet by a monkey on crack. Sure, Nighthawk fixed it for him but Kimber generally fixes all of the botch-jobs that slips by their Q&A people too.

Here's my take on Kimber... 10 years or so ago, they were a new player in the 1911 game and were cranking out a smaller number of firearms. People loved them and they became increasingly popular. Today, Kimber cranks out a metric ton of 1911 handguns and they still sell like hotcakes. Along the way, Kimber suffered growing pains. They experimented with the external extractor design and had mixed reviews. Some people (like me) have never had a problem with their external extractor 1911s. Others did, and they bitched. Loudly. The detractors even included some gun magazine pundits who really raked Kimber over the coals to the point that Kimber finally decided that they were getting too much bad press over the extractor design and went back to the internal one. Another growing pain that they have suffered is in the area of customer service. A few folks didn't get the answers they wanted, or talked to in the right tone of voice (boo ****ing hoo) by a Service Rep, or didn't get their gun sent back to them as quickly as they wanted, so they started bitching too. And they bitched not on just one forum but on any forum that they could find on which to spread their sewage. By no coincidence, those people who bitched sometimes got told to go piss up a burning rope by a few of the head Service Reps at Kimber who also watched those forums. I'm not a huge fan of the idea that "the customer is always right" and I deal with enough New Yorkers for work to know that they don't suffer B.S. as much as we do down here in the South, so I can see where George T. Complainer might get told to go fist himself by a Kimber rep who was having a bad day. In fact, there's a few Kimber customers that I've read posts from who *I* wanted to tell to go fist themselves after reading some of the hate-filled bile that they've posted, trashing Kimber, the Service Reps in particular, and accusing the Service Rep's moms of having had orgies with packs of canines. Seriously... what do these people think they are going to accomplish by pissing off the people who can help them fix their firearm??? I'd tell them to get bent too!!! So, basically you have a few heartaches along the way but the vocal minority always screams the loudest and bad news always travels fastest. There are thousands of Kimber 1911s out there that run like clockwork and their owners have never had an issue with them. A lot probably have external extractor pistols too! But we'll never hear from those folks because they don't post "I love my Kimber!" threads over on M1911.org.

...as anchor inspectors.

I'd say no. I'm reading this that it has a protrusion that goes into the ejection port of the shotgun and that is what renders it safe.

Something like the police use to mount their shotguns in the front passenger dash area of their cruisers? http://www.galls.com/style.html?assort=general_catalog&style=VP238 http://www.galls.com/style.html?assort=general_catalog&style=VP235

Good, Bad or suggestions with Trijicon night sights
TGO David replied to a topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Mars... I'm interested in hearing about these situations where a tritium watch dial might be bad for you. I'd look for some Meprolight sights if you can. They tend to have nice thick white outlines around the tritium vial that make the sighting dots more visible in daylight. It doesn't make them any brighter in the dark, though, so no worries there. -
What's in your firearms Christmas list for Santa?

What's in your firearms Christmas list for Santa?

@ Quakers. I was hoping to be able to afford a Dillon reloading setup but I don't know that it will be possible just yet. May have to wait til a little later in the Winter / Spring for that. I'd love to have an EOTech for the AR15. If I can sell my SPOT III red-dot and put that money toward the EOTech, it might be a little more feasible. Anyone want a good red-dot sight at a really good price? And what I would REALLY like for Christmas is a 7.62 automatic rifle of some sort. I'm thinking either an HK91 clone or a FN-FAL (or clone). The AK just doesn't give me the warm fuzzies that I thought it would, but I might need to give it another chance and see if I can warm up to it. Of the bunch, I'd say that the EOTech is the more likely to happen and I'm not sure I'll even do that. I've got a couple of things that really need to be taken care of before I can start buying gun stuff again. -
No, but the ACLU and NAACP "guarantee" that one.
-
Maybe this guy owned it... I can see how he might have had problems reassembling the gun without scratching it way up high on the slide like that.

The reason I was given was because shooting silhouettes was a little too politically incorrect.

True... skimping on anything related to your eyesight or hearing is a dumb way to save money.

First of all, I just can't believe that we're already mid-way into November as I write this. 2007 has blasted right by me it seems. I keep telling myself that I better get a jump on hanging icicle lights on the eaves of the house while there's still a little warm weather to be had. I don't have to light them until after Thanksgiving of course. All of this brings to mind the idea of how much fun it was when I was a kid to sit down with the JC Penny and Sears wishbook catalogs and make out a long list of things that I hoped Santa (or my parents, or the grandparents) would bring me for Christmas. It's a shame that my own kids didn't believe in the jolly fat elf for very long. I guess they grow up faster these days. But I digress... What do you want Santa to bring YOU this year? A new gun? Reloading equipment? Some super tacticool optics for your evil black rifle? Ammo? Maybe some claymores to decorate your lawn like Marswolf does? Let's hear it.

I have a pair of Peltor Tactical 7 electronic muffs that I wear over foamies when I'm shooting indoors, or just wear by themselves out of doors. I like them a lot. Very good alternative to Pro Ears for the money.

I know what you mean, man. It would suck to not be forced to work on a car every weekend, so it's awesome that you have a GM product.
-
I forget... does the 3rd Gen CamBird have the access panel in the floor board or is it like the 4th Gen where you have to drop the rear axle to get to the pump? I had to do that on my '93 and so began my love-hate affair with that car.

Your wife has good taste.

There is no law against it, but many gun shows require you to have your firearm's action locked open with a zip tie ... usually enforced by someone at the door. I've always assumed that was for a firearm being carried in for trade or sale. I don't expose my carry weapon so I don't let them zip tie it into a useless state.

Welcome, Kat. Make yourself at home and don't hesitate to jump into the conversations!

The saga ends and the irony of it all

So this goes down as being one of the most expensive Smith & Wesson firearms that you've never owned... right? -
Nice. I shouldn't have told you about those grips before I ordered mine. But now, I can get a left-hand carry rig, steal your Kimber and have a matching pair. Two fistfulls of hot lead!
