  1. Yeah, the PTR has been tempting me just because I'm an HK fanboi.
  2. What would the consensus vote be? I'm guessing an AK platform. If that is the case, which one? I'm thinking ahead to Nov of 2008 when the philosopher-kings of America decide that we conservative gun owners have had our day in the sun and that our inalienable rights aren't worth the paper they were inscribed upon by our forefathers. What, you think that the GOP will retain power? Maybe. I'm not banking on it thanks to the bumbling of George W. during his second term. So help me decide! I want a 7.62 to keep alongside my 5.56 and I want one that won't suck.

    Sig P250

I know that the SIG faithful have been pining for it for over a year now. I'm not real big on the whole interchangeable frame gimmick as I think replaceable backstraps would have made a LOT more sense and multiple grip straps could have been included with each gun.
  4. I've taken the liberty of changing the thread title. "Memphrica" has a fairly racial overtone and really goes against the grain of the climate that we try to provide here. All races, creeds and religions are welcome and we would not want to make our black members feel unwanted. Remember, there are upstanding black citizens who enjoy the shooting sports and have Handgun Carry Permits just as there are white, Asian, and Hispanic folks. I know for a fact that we even have one Muslim member.
  5. For you middle TN guys who want to try it out... The North Tennessee Practical Shooters club hosts their next match on January 12th and 13th out in Dickson. If I could get a count of who wants to participate, I would be willing to contact them, explain that it consists of some folks who are new to the sport and ask that we be squadded together. At the minimum you would need: Money for entrance fee Automatic handgun and ammo Holster Spare magazines (4 spare minimum) Eye and ear protection If it's your first time there, you really won't want to worry too much about what division you shoot in. Automatics (9mm and .40SW) would probably be best served if they shot in Production class. Production limits the round count to 10 rounds per magazine, so if all you have is the old post-ban civilian style mags, you're safe. If you have high-cap mags, you'll just load them to 10 rounds. 1911s would shoot in the Single Stack class. Only 1911s can shoot single stack, so guns like the SIG 220 would be forced to shoot Production or another division. Don't show up with a tricked out "race gun" or you will end up in a class with people who can totally out-shoot you. Seriously. Optionally you're going to want a good means of carrying your spare magazines. Pants pockets work but are painfully slow. I'd recommend that you pick up some dual-mag magazine pouches for your belt. At least two of them since you want to carry a minimum of four extra mags of ammo. Also visit these sites and do some reading! USPSA - How Do I Get Started? USPSA 2008 Handbook - Rules & Regs The rules and regs are daunting to read in one setting, so don't sweat it if you read that and think "What the hell?". Just familiarize yourself with the basics and know that when you show up to your first match, as long as you let the Range Safety Officers know that it is your first time, they will walk you through it step by step in a very safe, slow manner. USPSA is definitely not a spectator sport. It's fun to watch, but you learn fast if you just jump in and enjoy it!
  6. Oleg signed up here a while back but as far as I know has never posted. It's a shame. I wish he would visit and participate.
  7. A co-worker has a friend who used to be fairly wealthy. I guess the guy still is, but not near as much as he was in 1998. The stock market crashing didn't do him in, mind you. Rather he was a casualty of the Y2K Bug. You guys remember the Y2K Bug, right? The computer glitch that was supposed to bring the industrialized world to it's knees? The programming boo-boo that was supposed to cripple the financial infrastructure of the entire free world? Well this guy lost his ass financially not because of any two-digit date code but because he spent a ton of money building a bunker (here in middle TN) and stocking it with food, water, the means to produce electricity, armament, etc. The guy essentially set himself up for WWIII or the total collapse of Western Civilization. When New Years 2000 passed without so much as a fart, he was left with a lot of really expensive crap that he didn't have the desire or the means to properly rotate stock on. I think the story is he ended up giving away a lot of MREs to the Hurricane Katrina effort as a way of letting someone get some use out of them. He still has his bunker. He still keeps a small stock of food and water in case of a natural disaster and I think he uses the bunker when the weather gets bad during tornado season. But other than that, he spent a lot of time and money preparing for something that was grossly mis-predicted. Does that mean that he was wrong to do so? Nah. Preparedness is OK. But do it smartly and in moderation.
  8. Do they look as happy now that you went and threw a boy into the mix?
  9. It sounds like you just signed up for our swamp shooting session! This is true. But if we can plan it for a month that would be more pleasant for more people and get a larger turnout, then it sort of makes sense to try that don't you think?
  10. I have the 7600 in .30-06 and have used it for deer hunting for the past 15 years now. I love the rifle. I used to hunt with an older gentleman who had a 7600 that he had owned for about 30 years and it was rock solid. That's what sold me on that platform. I wanted a bolt action but left handed bolt guns are harder to find and generally more expensive. To me, the 7600 is a perfect compromise.
  11. I'm going to do some checking and see if I can get someone to embroider some TGO patches. People often put them on their cover garments and/or range bags.
  12. Ain't it the truth.
  13. I disqualified myself once last summer. You can't suck much worse than that! Unless... you shoot someone.
  14. Does anyone else think it might be fun to form up TGO "squads" for participating in USPSA and IDPA matches in 2008? Maybe an East, Middle and West squad?
  15. A competition would be fun... but could we pull it off at On Target? Another fun idea would be to form TGO "squads" for shooting at USPSA events in 2008! East TN, Middle TN, West TN...
  16. Awesome!
  17. Another forum that I operate usually has a track-day during the Spring so that really eats up a lot of time for planning and prep. Then people gripe about being outside all day shooting during the summer heat (wussies!) so that leaves Fall.
  18. And working there. Very true.
  19. American Handgunner, regularly. The rest only if there's something good in them.
  20. I thought we'd just go for a one hit wonder. We've already got one on the books for January '08.
  21. A statewide event sounds like fun. Maybe we could work out something for early Fall of 2008.
  22. Beaver Tail Extension of the grip safety that protects the web of your thumb and forefinger. Bobtail Reduction of the grip frame to mitigate "printing" when carrying concealed Bob White Annoying bird. Bob Hope Comedic great, sorely missed. Smilin Bob Has giant weenis because of Enzyte, reportedly.
  23. IT isn't what it used to be.
  24. Um... that girl with the g-string looked a little young.
