Slowly but surely my schedule is settling back down...
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
Because I like 1911s... duh. -
Even 7yds is probably further than you'll ever "need" to shoot a J-frame. These are up close and dirty weapons. Nothing elegant about them.

Slowly but surely my schedule is settling back down...
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
Thanks for the congratulations and best wishes. It's amazing how nicely things just work when you're with the person you should have waited for instead of settling before. We were both in that boat and neither of us were looking (or wanting) a relationship when we met. God had other ideas. She is very pro-gun and thinks the look of the 1911 in leather is sexy and reassuring. She has good taste, obviously. Wedding is going to be small and intimate with just our families and a few witnesses present. We fought the idea of just eloping (her dad's suggestion!) and decided to do a small church wedding since neither of us had done that before. The groom will be registered for ammunition at Wal-Mart. -
Paducah-native here. Moved to middle TN back in the late 1990s and have been here ever since, but still go "home" to visit fairly often.

Hey folks. Miss me? The past eight weeks have been pretty wild around the office and at home, so I just haven't been online as much as was normal previously. Thankfully work is starting to slack up just a hair so I can take a breather and check in with everyone. I've got online-friends who had all but put my photo on milk cartons while I was away. Sadly I haven't done much shooting lately. I'm hoping to change that this week one evening or maybe this upcoming weekend. I've got family coming in to visit, so there's always a chance we'll sneak away to the range and get some firing time in while they are here. No new gun purchases to report but I've not sold any either, so the arsenal is still well stocked in case of a Zombie Apocalypse ... or a Hillary White House, which is pretty much the same thing when you think about it. I suppose the only other news is that... I'm getting married. Perhaps the best reason of all for my absence lately is the amount of time I've been spending rebuilding my life with the person I never figured I'd ever really meet. It's been an amazing new year and only promises to get better. With plenty of encouragement from our families and friends, we decided to skip the idea of waiting until next year and are going for it in just a little over a month from now. So, that's what I've been up to! And now I sign on here and there's a ton of people I don't even know. If I never got a chance to post a welcome to you new folks, please accept my apologies and likewise accept a sincere welcome to TGO. I'm glad you're here and thrilled to see the forum thriving in my absence. Maybe I should go away more often. Finally I want to thank Molonlabetn, Marswolf, Len, Hornet Handler and GlockingTN for taking care of business. It's a real load off of my mind knowing that I have a great group of moderators who are more than capable of handling anything that might come up. These guys are the best!

Getting to know each other: What do you look like?
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
My bride-to-be and me at a recent birthday party... As you can see, Eddie and I are in the same boat. We both married up. But that's ok because somewhere in this photo, a Wilson Combat 1911 and two spare mags were hiding in case someone wanted to try to swipe her away from me that night. -
Had a touch of it Friday. Woke up feeling great today. My immune system kicks ass.

You, Marswolf and a select group of others will be happy to hear that this is back. -
I was feeling pretty comfortable with my appointment of Eddie as the Co-Admin... until this.

Do what I do... get so busy that you almost don't have a chance to go pee, let alone look at the internet. -

I will try to put those features back into place. Give me a bit to accomplish this, though. -
I'm around still. When I'm at the office, I'm being owned by work which has absolutely brought a lot of my "recreational" stuff to a grinding halt during the week days. After hours, I'm in the middle of some household renovations and "life renovations"; both of which have taken the rest of my time. January - March are almost always this way for me at the office. It's when I have my window of opportunity to lay the groundwork for all of the other projects that I will work on for the remainder of the year. So, it's an annual cycle. You guys just missed it last year because we were all so new here on TGO. Thanks for wondering. I appreciate the concern.

I took Ken Po for the first two years after I moved to Nashville. I enjoyed it, but work and life got in the way so I had to give it up. I've read up on Krav Maga and would love to get involved in something like that, but apparently no one is authorized to run a school in Nashville yet and I really don't feel like driving to Memphis for classes. I've lost a little over 60lbs in the past 6 months and am steadily working my way back down to my target weight. Doing that has made it a lot easier for me to get back into cardio and strength training, so naturally I keep wanting to get back into something like this.

Please see above.

When I moved here from Kentucky, I quickly learned that the last part of Peyton's name is actually H. Christ ... or at least you'd think so by the way some of the Vols fans act.

I had a 3x9x40 on my .30-06 a few years ago and it wouldn't hold zero to save it's life. I replaced it with a Nikon Monarch and never looked back. You usually do get what you pay for when it comes to optics.

Eli must be adopted as he bucked family tradition and didn't choke in the playoffs. Last year was definitely a fluke for Peyton.

Hell yes!!! I put 200 more through mine tonight.

It sounds like the situation was handled very well. Your answer was succinct and professional, and it sounds like you played it down like it was no big deal... which is exactly what it is. It's no big deal at all. Law abiding citizens legally carry guns for their own protection and the protection of those around them. It's a normal thing.

When you're traveling to other states.

Abroad generally refers to somewhere other than the United States. -
TFA Nashville Bulletin re: January '08 Meeting
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Events and Gatherings
The things you're attributing to Danny Dunn were my ideas as I outlined in previous posts here. I spent a lot of time at the meetings and afterward writing down the things you're saying no one wrote down, and still have a legal pad full of them. I'd be glad to forward you my notes if you want them. It really doesn't matter; I'm just pointing out that I tried to invest into this organization to no avail. My energy seems to be best directed into continuing to make TGO a place for folks to meet without concern for schedules. -
TFA Nashville Bulletin re: January '08 Meeting

Just so there's no misunderstanding and so that you know what you're dealing with... I'm sitting this out. I was pretty gung-ho to see the Nashville chapter be revived but having seen countless iterations of the meetings being canceled, back on again, no - canceled, whoops back on again... I'm just done with it. I only have so many hours of free time and I detest having it wasted or having my schedule jerked around. So far, both of those are things that I can with a clear conscience accuse the Nashville chapter of doing. If the chapter gets traction and does something productive with the meeting times, I will re-evaluate my personal stance on it and possibly attend again. Otherwise, TGO is where you'll find me putting my energy. Again, good luck. You have a very uphill battle ahead of you.
