  1. It matters more on certain calibers. 9mm probably not so much but I would avoid it at all costs with the .40SW and .45ACP for starters.
  2. I just can't warm up to the 1911 framed 9mm compacts. Too many reliability issues. She really likes the XD Tactical and the P2000, so I think a poly gun with adjustable backstrap is what we'll look at for the moment.
  3. Thanks for the heads-up on the cherry blossom stain. That may come in handy later for my daughter if she decides she wants a .22 to plink with. My fiance is more interested in a polymer 9mm handgun of some sort. I'm going to see about putting an M&P 9mm in her hands soon and see what she thinks about it. She's pretty fond of the Julie Goloski "Breast Cancer Awareness" edition M&P 9mm that I showed her the other day. I think we'd probably end up using pink Duracoat on the slide to further girlie it up a little, though.
  4. Since I lost about 70lbs, I've found that it is a lot easier to just carry in the car exactly like I carry out of the car. IWB, strong side. I may remove the gun from the holster and place it in the center console or door pocket if I am on an especially long trip. The best way to carry IWB in a car is to eat a salad every once in a while, do some cardio a few times a week, crunches every day...
  5. Yeah, I noticed that yesterday and showed it to her. She liked the fact that it has a portion of the sale proceeds going to breast cancer research (she's an RN and her family has a history with cancer) . We might look into that and still see about having the slide re-finished pink to match.
  6. Yep. I visit there often... you?
  7. Disregard this request... I found all of the information that I needed here: http://www.womenslaw.org/TN/TN_how_to.htm#2
  8. I'm posting this here because I consider it to be a subset of "Self Defense" ... from a legal standpoint. What is the proper method of obtaining a restraining order against as person in the state of Tennessee? And is there a difference between a restraining order and an Emergency Protection Order? Thanks.
  9. It's a week later and I still haven't shot anyone. The coffee must be working.
  10. I can't even think about beer without having the uncontrollable urge to shout "HEY YA'LL WATCH THIS!!!" and then empty a few hundred rounds of incendiary ammunition into a school bus full of small children, blind people, old women and Catholic missionary nuns. I understand this is a common compulsion with handgun carry permit holders, so it's only logical that the state legislators feel the need to protect us from ourselves... and everyone else from us.
  11. It's getting close to time to replace the recoil spring in my Wilson Combat Commander-sized 1911. Anyone here know what weight spring is stock on these firearms?
  12. My fiance and I went shooting again this past weekend. I think I'm going to need to find something for her in a nice shade of pink... and 9mm. Maybe a Duracoated XD 9mm Service model, or a Glock 19, or an M&P 4-inch. She was really eyeing the H&K P30 9mm in the display cabinet though... And fans of John Moses Browning will appreciate this... And of course I had to expose her to Evil Black Rifle Disease while we were there. She did great with all of them and had quite a few of the guys on the firing line taking note.
  13. Custom grips are easily changed back out. Custom finishes on a gun in a popular color (black, OD, coyote brown, stainless, chrome, even pink for the ladies) are not a deal breaker normally either. Sometimes they add value to a firearm if the finish is particularly desirable or improves the quality of the firearm (Tripp Hard Chrome, Robar NP3, etc.). But a custom theme on a firearm usually limits the appeal of the firearm to the public at large. Not a big deal if you're going to keep it for life, but otherwise kills the resale value.
  14. I'd leave it alone. Doing this will ruin any resale value of the firearm, and despite what you may think right now there may come a time when you'll want to sell it to buy something else. Just ask the moron who did THIS to their Glock...
  15. The XD is available in 45 ACP.
  16. I believe the only XD that I have seen an external safety slated for is the XD45 ... and that is primarily because Springfield is hoping that they will somehow be able to get it in the running for the next US Military joint forces duty sidearm. If I'm wrong, someone feel free to correct me.
  17. That's not a TV monitor on the rifle... it's an Aliens Motion Tracker!!! http://video.aol.com/video-detail/aliens-motion-tracker-working-prop/1648808649
  18. Well said and something I can easily agree with.
  19. What a coincidence... I don't trust Chief Serpas so I guess that makes us even? It's funny that the current statutes technically do not allow police officers to go armed anywhere that alcohol is served for consumption on premises unless they are acting in an official capacity at that very moment. How many times have you seen cops eating lunch in a restaurant that serves beer? I know I have seen them do so plenty of times. Too bad for them that eating lunch isn't considered to be in execution of official duties.
  20. Well, in a way I suppose. But I'd rather have a gun in a knife fight than a knife in a gun fight... ya know?
  21. So far today I haven't.
  22. My doctor knows to deduct 4lbs from my weight on the scale for whatever I may be carrying at the moment. We have an... understanding.
