  1. My wife and I took my brother-in-law to the range this weekend and introduced him to the fun world of shooting. It was not only his first time at the range but his first time shooting a gun of any sort. I gave him the basic primer on firearm safety at our house along with a review of the handguns that we would be shooting that day: Springfield XD Tactical 9mm, HK P2000 .40SW and the Wilson Combat 1911 .45ACP. At the range, we worked through them in that order but he spent the most time with the XD 9mm. It seems that gun is quickly becoming a favorite with the folks that I have let shoot it, but my wife is steadily aquiring a taste for the Wilson Combat too. Anyway, just a few pictures -- no faces since I didn't ask permission before posting these. PS: He had a blast. And my wife caught this shot with muzzle flash evident... He flinched a little during that shot. Overcoming the instinctive reaction to flinch is something that just comes with time and exposure to the sport. He actually did great for his first session out.
  2. Pfft... you just need to spread the display cases out a little further.
  3. More like the Mossad. Now that you've asked, we may never hear from you again.

    New M&P

Had one. Sold it. BTW, I still have my XD Tactical 9mm. Love it.
  5. Eddie, I think you forgot to sign out your wife's account before you posted this. But I agree that you often do pick grips that accentuate your eyes or your shoes -- and that's something most guys don't worry about.
  6. Folks, let's keep the discussion to the topic at hand and leave personal barbs out of it. No-armed musicians are ... um ... musicians too.

    New M&P

I enjoyed my M&P pistols quite a bit. I did end up selling my two .40SW models (compact and full-size) in order to move to the HK P2000, but that was simply because I wanted the HK and not because I had any problems out of my M&Ps. I have recently begun thinking about another M&P... this time maybe the 9c or even the new 45c once it's in production.
  8. That's the team that Candice Parker carries, isn't it?
  9. I carry whatever works best with my attire and activities at the moment. J-Frame goes with me a lot of times when I just want to travel light. Church, for example. My HK P2000 goes with me when I can afford to carry and conceal something a little larger and heavier. The Wilson comes out when I'm feeling particularly froggy.

    trespassing

Print off a copy of the thread from Tennesspeed where you hunted the guy down for ripping you off on the Internet. Paste that on your front door. That should solve the problem.
  11. Let me restate my case so as to be clear... I would never shoot someone else's reloads in my own Glock. I would be equally hesitant to shoot someone else's reloads in any handgun that I own. Glocks are not as forgiving as some handguns when it comes to overcharged loads. You may find anecdotal evidence that hundreds of thousands of people have shot reloads in their Glocks with no adverse affects. You may also find a guy nicknamed "Stubbie" because he used a buddy's reloads in his Glock 23 and it claymored his hand real good. Just food for thought. There's probably a lot of people who have swam with sharks and lived to tell about how cool and harmless it was too.
  12. Larry Vicker's resume speaks for itself. That guy really has been there and done that. A lot of that. A lot of "that" that he can't even talk about because so much of "that" is still utterly classified. It's awesome that you guys got to go train with him and speaks volumes about your own pursuit for excellence. That said, got any cool pictures from the weekend???
  13. The reason why this hasn't passed in Tennessee is simple...
  14. Congrats on keeping a cool head! It's nice to bump into the courteous and professional LEOs when there are so many stories of bad encounters, isn't it?
  15. I have a stainless Wilson's ambi safety, new in the bag, that I don't need anymore. Would be happy to sell it for less than you'd be able to buy it from Brownell's or Midway.
  16. I'm going to add it back in after we get to the final version of vBulletin 3.7 and the new version of the chat software is released.
  17. One of our members is an insurance agent with Farmer's and wrote a fairly nice article about guns and insurance. You might want to drop him a line as he is at least one gun-friendly agent that I'm aware of.
  18. Let me state the following before I close this thread, because I see where it's going and understand the reason for it: Frank is a nice guy. None of us on TGO deny that and it was a difficult decision for both MolonlabeTN and me to make when we decided that it was in the best interest of TGO to end our "official" relationship with ETS, Inc. There is no "hate" or "hating" going on. Our decision was made for the overall good of this forum and it's members, regardless of whether each member agrees with our actions. The problem is that being a nice guy doesn't mean that the government will look the other way IF you are doing something that they feel is not completely legitimate. Especially when it comes to revenue, because we all know that the government loves their revenue. Again, we are not in the business of dispensing legal advice here. I've been clear about that several times now so do not make the mistake of assuming that our intent is otherwise. However, we felt that it was prudent to distance TGO and those of us who run it from ETS, Inc. if they persist in offering what we and an attorney that we consulted perceive as being a "game of chance". Tennessee does not allow games of chance for profit, and there is too much gray in what was posted about this contest for us to feel comfortable with it. Frank is still a member here and has not been banned. If you would like to send him words of encouragement, which I am sure he would be appreciative of, please use the Private Messaging feature to send them to him privately. Threads started publicly for the sake of poking a finger in the eye of the TGO Staff over our decision to distance ourselves from ETS, Inc. will not be received warmly. Thanks.
  19. I'm the guy sitting at Starbucks with a 1911 hidden under his shirt. Not everyone who enjoys the coffee and atmosphere there are metrosexual anti-gunners.
  20. MolonlabeTN has explained our position adequately on this matter. I do not wish to discuss it further as anything said beyond what has already been stated could be misconstrued as legal advice from TGO, which we clearly are not in the business of providing. Caveat emptor.

A willful attempt to evade or defeat a tax imposed by the Act is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $100,000 fine ($500,000 in the case of a corporation), under the general tax evasion statute. For an individual, the felony fine of $100,000 for tax evasion could be increased to $250,000.” Please refer to the BATFE publication NFA Handbook

    Snubbies

I've never had illusions of being able to group tightly with my little S&W 442. But for a close up and dirty self-defense weapon that drops into a pocket where I might have otherwise just carried a locking pocket knife... you can't beat a J-Frame.
  23. If I was going to buy a CZ right now, it would be the CZ-P01. I just can't stop lusting after them for some reason. The SP01 is even more lucrative from a gaming perspective...
  24. Are you asking from a gaming perspective or from a practical one? If the former, then I would use a 5" barrel 9mm automatic of some sort. I like my XD Tactical for this. If it's the latter, I'd use whatever you carry. If it's a compact .40SW then use that. If it's a J-Frame, then use that. The point being, use in the game what you might be called upon to use in real life ... if the point of your participation in the game is to hone your real-world skills. I've participated in USPSA shoots running both types of gear. I actually had more fun running my carry weapon just because it showed me how much I needed to improve on things like rapid sight acquisition and follow-up placement.
  25. The G21 chambers that I've seen in the past did not offer sufficient support to the casing all the way back to the lip. There are several recorded incidents of .45ACP Glocks going ka-boom with good photo documentation substantiating what I just stated. Really, I prefer not to shoot other people's reloads in any gun and wouldn't shoot my own reloads in a Glock. I don't trust the attention span of others enough to feel confident that they didn't goof while reloading and overcharge a cartridge or two. Even if the hangun contains the explosive result of an overcharge and keeps you from being wounded, the gun itself will likely sustain damage.
