I'm the guy sitting at Starbucks with a 1911 hidden under his shirt. Not everyone who enjoys the coffee and atmosphere there are metrosexual anti-gunners.

MolonlabeTN has explained our position adequately on this matter. I do not wish to discuss it further as anything said beyond what has already been stated could be misconstrued as legal advice from TGO, which we clearly are not in the business of providing. Caveat emptor.

National Firearms Act (NFA) Legal Cautions
TGO David posted a topic in Trading Post Notices and FAQs
Discussion of National Firearms Act (NFA) subjects is frequent on Tennessee Gun Owners forum, herein referred to as TNGunOwners.com or TGO. NFA items, their possession, creation, purchase, selling, and conversion are regulated by a host of federal, state, and local laws. Be advised that TNGunOwners.com, its administrators, and its moderators make no warranty, expressed or implied, that information posted about NFA subjects is valid or accurate. Information posted is strictly and exclusively the opinion of the poster and is not endorsed in any way by TNGunOwners.com You are exclusively responsible for determining which laws are applicable to you and TNGunOwners.com always recommends that you retain legal counsel if you are uncertain as to what the law is and how it applies to your particular situation. NFA laws are strictly enforced by the BATFE and other law enforcement organizations. “Violations of the National Firearms Act are punishable by up to 10 years in federal prison and forfeiture of all devices or firearms in violation, and the individual's right to own or possess firearms in the future. The Act provides for a penalty of $10,000 for certain violations. A willful attempt to evade or defeat a tax imposed by the Act is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $100,000 fine ($500,000 in the case of a corporation), under the general tax evasion statute. For an individual, the felony fine of $100,000 for tax evasion could be increased to $250,000.” Please refer to the BATFE publication NFA Handbook -
I've never had illusions of being able to group tightly with my little S&W 442. But for a close up and dirty self-defense weapon that drops into a pocket where I might have otherwise just carried a locking pocket knife... you can't beat a J-Frame.

If I was going to buy a CZ right now, it would be the CZ-P01. I just can't stop lusting after them for some reason. The SP01 is even more lucrative from a gaming perspective...
-
Are you asking from a gaming perspective or from a practical one? If the former, then I would use a 5" barrel 9mm automatic of some sort. I like my XD Tactical for this. If it's the latter, I'd use whatever you carry. If it's a compact .40SW then use that. If it's a J-Frame, then use that. The point being, use in the game what you might be called upon to use in real life ... if the point of your participation in the game is to hone your real-world skills. I've participated in USPSA shoots running both types of gear. I actually had more fun running my carry weapon just because it showed me how much I needed to improve on things like rapid sight acquisition and follow-up placement.

The G21 chambers that I've seen in the past did not offer sufficient support to the casing all the way back to the lip. There are several recorded incidents of .45ACP Glocks going ka-boom with good photo documentation substantiating what I just stated. Really, I prefer not to shoot other people's reloads in any gun and wouldn't shoot my own reloads in a Glock. I don't trust the attention span of others enough to feel confident that they didn't goof while reloading and overcharge a cartridge or two. Even if the hangun contains the explosive result of an overcharge and keeps you from being wounded, the gun itself will likely sustain damage.

It matters more on certain calibers. 9mm probably not so much but I would avoid it at all costs with the .40SW and .45ACP for starters.

I think I'm going to need something in pink... and 9mm...

I just can't warm up to the 1911 framed 9mm compacts. Too many reliability issues. She really likes the XD Tactical and the P2000, so I think a poly gun with adjustable backstrap is what we'll look at for the moment. -

Thanks for the heads-up on the cherry blossom stain. That may come in handy later for my daughter if she decides she wants a .22 to plink with. My fiance is more interested in a polymer 9mm handgun of some sort. I'm going to see about putting an M&P 9mm in her hands soon and see what she thinks about it. She's pretty fond of the Julie Goloski "Breast Cancer Awareness" edition M&P 9mm that I showed her the other day. I think we'd probably end up using pink Duracoat on the slide to further girlie it up a little, though. -
Since I lost about 70lbs, I've found that it is a lot easier to just carry in the car exactly like I carry out of the car. IWB, strong side. I may remove the gun from the holster and place it in the center console or door pocket if I am on an especially long trip. The best way to carry IWB in a car is to eat a salad every once in a while, do some cardio a few times a week, crunches every day...

Yeah, I noticed that yesterday and showed it to her. She liked the fact that it has a portion of the sale proceeds going to breast cancer research (she's an RN and her family has a history with cancer) . We might look into that and still see about having the slide re-finished pink to match. -
Yep. I visit there often... you?

Disregard this request... I found all of the information that I needed here: http://www.womenslaw.org/TN/TN_how_to.htm#2

I'm posting this here because I consider it to be a subset of "Self Defense" ... from a legal standpoint. What is the proper method of obtaining a restraining order against as person in the state of Tennessee? And is there a difference between a restraining order and an Emergency Protection Order? Thanks.

It's a week later and I still haven't shot anyone. The coffee must be working.

I can't even think about beer without having the uncontrollable urge to shout "HEY YA'LL WATCH THIS!!!" and then empty a few hundred rounds of incendiary ammunition into a school bus full of small children, blind people, old women and Catholic missionary nuns. I understand this is a common compulsion with handgun carry permit holders, so it's only logical that the state legislators feel the need to protect us from ourselves... and everyone else from us.

My fiance and I went shooting again this past weekend. I think I'm going to need to find something for her in a nice shade of pink... and 9mm. Maybe a Duracoated XD 9mm Service model, or a Glock 19, or an M&P 4-inch. She was really eyeing the H&K P30 9mm in the display cabinet though... And fans of John Moses Browning will appreciate this... And of course I had to expose her to Evil Black Rifle Disease while we were there. She did great with all of them and had quite a few of the guys on the firing line taking note.

Custom grips are easily changed back out. Custom finishes on a gun in a popular color (black, OD, coyote brown, stainless, chrome, even pink for the ladies) are not a deal breaker normally either. Sometimes they add value to a firearm if the finish is particularly desirable or improves the quality of the firearm (Tripp Hard Chrome, Robar NP3, etc.). But a custom theme on a firearm usually limits the appeal of the firearm to the public at large. Not a big deal if you're going to keep it for life, but otherwise kills the resale value.

Getting to know each other: What do you look like?
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat

I'd leave it alone. Doing this will ruin any resale value of the firearm, and despite what you may think right now there may come a time when you'll want to sell it to buy something else. Just ask the moron who did THIS to their Glock...

The XD is available in 45 ACP.

I believe the only XD that I have seen an external safety slated for is the XD45 ... and that is primarily because Springfield is hoping that they will somehow be able to get it in the running for the next US Military joint forces duty sidearm. If I'm wrong, someone feel free to correct me.
