I was explaining to my wife just a few minutes ago that I had always been of the mentality that carrying a .40SW meant carrying a better defensive round (compared to the 9mm) and that it allowed me more capacity (than my 1911s). If I wanted to shoot cheap, I'd shoot my 9mm at the range. The problems with that way of thinking have been: 1. She hogs my 9mm right now because she doesn't have one of her own, thus forcing me to shoot the guns with more expensive ammo 2. I'm practicing way more with guns that I *don't* carry than with the ones that I do when I shoot the 1911s and forsake the .40SW HK (because I don't enjoy shooting it as much). If the P2000 was the 9mm V3, we probably wouldn't be having this discussion right now. I'd force myself to adjust to it's characteristic quirks and be happily shooting cheaper ammo for practice and carrying Gold Dots for self-defense, but in the same gun. Really not feeling the argument that 9mm will get taxed out the ceiling with a change at the White House just because it's popular. I think we'll see all ammo get taxed heavily if Clinton or Obama win, along with other sweeping anti-gun changes. 9mm NATO will always be plentiful. Decisions, decisions.

Guys the problem pretty much centers around increased spam sensitivity with many ISPs and the fact that our SMTP outgoing mail server is "virtualized" rather than having an IP address that points directly back to mail.tngunowners.com. I am going to work toward fixing this problem in the next week or two. I've known what the problem was since the outset but have been looking and hoping for an easier fix. None of the easy things have worked so it's time for me to build a dedicated mail host on our web server. Not a big deal, just wasn't the answer I was hoping for. That's life. I'll get it fixed because it's annoying to all of us; me included.

Need IWB holster recommendations for...

Huge fan of the Comp-Tac MTAC holsters here. -
Did someone say they wanted those pictures? He had to model like that in order to become a moderator.

You read it right. I am having a bit of trouble deciding which way to go here. So let me state the facts right off the bat so that you can help me make the right decision. HK P2000 .40SW DA/SA Same size as the Glock 19 Has a heavy DA trigger which makes it "safer" Typical Germanic over-engineering for durability Adjustable grip swells, but I stick with Medium anyway so that's moot I'm not as good of a shot with it as I am the Glock I hate the long reset of the P2000 trigger. It is not intuitive for me at all. My grip style tends to make my strong thumb ride the slide release, preventing slide lock back on empty. .40SW target ammo is about $10 more per 100rds than 9mm target Glock 19 9mm Same size as the HK P2000 Striker-fired means the trigger pull is the same all the time Trigger safety is arguably not much of a safety at all (see: Glock Leg) Simplicity of design makes it rugged as hell also Grip is non adjustable but fits me perfectly I shoot 10x better with the Glock than I do the HK. Trigger reset is perfect to me. Very fast, controlled, accurate follow-up shots. I can buy three boxes of 9mm target ammo for every two boxes I buy of .40SW target ammo I really don't buy into the idea that .40SW is more effective than 9mm for the vast majority of self defense shootings Parts for the Glock are plentiful and cheap. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Glock armorer. Basically it amounts to this: If I get the Glock I am not going to keep the HK. I just don't see having one solitary .40SW handgun in the mix when I would likely never carry or shoot it, favoring the Glock instead for both. But admittedly the "Gun Snob" in me says that the HK is the "better" firearm even though that goes against conventional wisdom that says the better firearm is the one you shoot the most and shoot the most accurately. For me, that would be the Glock. Thoughts? PS: I'm loving my MacBook too.

I'd wait and look at the new M&P 45c (compact) as suggested by others in this thread. The 4-inch M&P 45 is nice but it's still a tad large for concealment in my opinion.
-
We also saw this at the last Smyrna (RK) gun show and thought it might be something that she would stand a chance of being able to carry concealed without too much trouble. She's tall and thin so just about any automatic will stick off of her hip like a giant neon "Look at me, I'm carrying a GUN!!!" sign regardless of what holster she uses. A small revolver like that should tuck in a lot closer. The pink M&P 9mm would more or less be her toy for the range.

May Mid-TN Eat & Shoot May 17th @ Owl Hollow
TGO David replied to molonlabetn's topic in Events and Gatherings
She's new to the forum and fairly new to shooting. We've been shooting together about five times now. She's gotten pretty good at it though. -
I actually think the XD Tactical is the best looking of the current XD line.
-
VERY nice. Where did you see that, Joe?

We'll both be there. -
Leopard (OS X 10.5.2) is *NIX under the hood. http://www.apple.com/macosx/technology/unix.html That's the biggest reason I took the plunge and went with the Mac Book. Sure, I could have tried to run Ubuntu or some other Linux on my Thinkpad but there's no telling what challenges that would have involved. I deal with enough challenges in our infrastructure at work. For home or on the road, I just wanted a laptop I didn't have to screw with. I wanted one that just works. I think I've found it.

I never said there was no use for having your MCDBA. I just said I haven't used it in several years. The few small SQL databases we have at my current employer (<50 employees) really aren't worth mentioning. I could just as easily host them on a MySQL box and no one would ever know the difference; except one of them is for our MS-branded accounting system and that might cause problems. Oracle is definitely worth learning. I know several people who have made careers doing nothing but Oracle. Oracle DBA, Oracle Forms Admin, Oracle development... you name it. Each one a completely viable career path in and of itself.

I'm the Infidel your mom warned you about. Durka durka, jihad Muhammed!!! (I think that means "All your goats are belong to us.") Dick!

I haven't done anything with my DBA certification since 1999. I manage two MS SQL servers here at my company but they are small potatoes to what I had to do when I worked for First American. Oracle on RHE is supposed to be the bomb. I may have to try it out sometime.

I'm voting for Obama too. And wearing Birkenstocks. Just kidding. Eddie, you being a Ubutnu user would appreciate the Unix underpinnings in OS-X. That was the big factor that made me switch. Intel platform running a Unix derivative with a quality GUI and a big name vendor backing it all up? Winnar! I'm slowly moving more of our servers at work to RedHat Enterprise Linux and off of Windows. I doubt Server 2008 will ever see the light of day here.

Just doing my part.

Today I did two things that would shock most people who know me. #1 -- I unpacked and set up my new Apple MacBook Pro laptop. As someone who has made their living with the initials MCSE, MCDBA and MCSP behind his name for the past ten years or so this is actually a pretty big deal. Microsoft has been good to me and has paid for a lot of things, but I've had it with the direction they are taking with their desktop OS. My new personal computer is a Mac. Eat that, Ballmer!!! #2 -- I ordered a new kydex body from Comp-Tac for the spare MTAC holster that I had laying around. My HK P2000 will keep it's MTAC, but the 1911 is now carried in a Milt Sparks VM2. So the new kydex body? It fits a Glock. I figure sooner or later I'm going to end up with a Glock 19. Might as well have something to carry it in.

My wife and I had the chance to hold one of the P250s a few weeks ago. It wasn't for either of us but I'm glad to hear that your wife found something she will like carrying. Not to steer us completely off topic, but what method has she found that she prefers carrying the firearm? Outside the waistband? Inside? Purse? Thanks.

That's the first idea that came to my mind.

Found more photos...

Whatever the case, I wonder if the guy who took those pictures is now looking for a new job.

The grip looks awfully Walther P99-ish.

Someone over on Glocktalk leaked photos of the new XD-M handguns yesterday but apparently Springfield shut them down post-haste. The photos have since been removed, but there is now a link on Springfield's website that invites you to sign up for daily email announcements about the new (M) factor. I'm still searching for photos. Apparently it's a new version of the XD that lowers the bore axis (about damn time) and improves the grip by making it fill the hand a little better. *** EDIT ... Photos Located ***
