  1. The overabundance of love in this thread gave it away, didn't it?
  2. As was explained to me yesterday... The land owner has the option of not renewing the lease to the OHGC at the end of this calendar year (Dec 31st). Reportedly he has threatened that he would not renew several times in the past but always has. Perhaps as a means to increase the land lease rate, but that is speculation on my part and was not something I was told. Land in Williamson County is going for quite a premium right now. In the neighborhood of $50,000 per acre. While it would be extremely costly to reclaim the land from the gun club and properly retrieve and dispose of the lead contaminants from over 40 years of shooting, the expense of doing so could still easily be offset by the profit of selling the property for residential development. Simply put... what would you do if you owned it? I am told that the owner is talking about leaving it a shooting range but operating it privately rather than leasing it to the club. It's said he receives about 50% of the proceeds now so he would be receiving 100% of them were he to do that. Of course he would also incur 100% of the operating expenses, maintenance costs, etc. and would not have the OHGC working on his behalf to generate traffic to the range. So hopefully he is considering that as well. Anyway, the bottom line is that right now no one really knows what's going to happen. My wife and I are going to hold on joining OHGC until we learn more. But TGO will continue meeting there for our Middle TN shoots as long as the club is willing to have us. It's a little more profitable for them if we don't join, anyway.
  3. Congrats on the rifle. I think the S&W you're talking about was EasilyObessed's M&P 9mm.
  4. If you're feeling un-relaxed tomorrow, I've got a stack of relaxation for ya.
  5. Ah, thanks man. I'm not sure I live up to the compliment but I'm glad to hear that you're interested in taking one of their classes. You won't regret it if you get the chance to attend one.
  6. Who's the guy who moved back in next to our parents?
  7. Glad you're here! Sorry about the tech difficulties earlier.
  8. LISTEN TO YOURSELF This is a really good one. How many of us have had situations in life where we knew the outcome of a situation wasn't going to be good before we ever got into it, and then later wish we had listened to our gut? It could be anything, not just a self defense situation. God gave you an instinct for a reason. USE IT.
  9. Mmm... cookies. Thanks again to all who came out and shot! BIG thanks to Mark for slaving over the hot grill so that we could enjoy tasty charcoal grilled burgers and hot dogs.
  10. As much as you want to shoot. Yep!
  11. Just come on out. You'll be OK. Holstering is fine. I've never had anyone tell me that I couldn't and I've always carried there and back. I no longer shoot at Hobson Pike because they get a hair in their ass anytime I want to holster my gun (on range) rather than leave it lying on the bench.
  12. That usually means steel case and lacquered primers doesn't it?
  13. I'd love to believe there will be a glut of surplus 5.56 but how realistic is that? It seems that the manufacturers couldn't crank it out fast enough for Iraq.
  14. Man if you're driving to Hobson, you're only 30 minutes away from OHGC. Why not just drive on down and meet everyone?
  15. Shooting 5.56 is going to force me into reloading, otherwise it's going to get stupid-expensive real fast. I sold my last AR simply because it had become too expensive to feed and I had better uses for the money at the time. Decisions, decisions.
  16. The past few shoots the backer boards on the rifle range were wooden. You stapled your targets to them.
  17. Congrats.
  18. Holstered weapons are fine. Or at least they have been every time I've been there.
  19. I don't know... those bowling pins KNOW him now. They'll probably surrender rather than be shot.
  20. I like the idea of having one NFA lower that you can throw a 9mm or a 5.56mm upper on depending on the mood. What really has me right now is the cost of 5.56 ammo; especially as I look with an eye toward the CIS Defensive Carbine class and the 1,000 round requirement. 1,000 rounds of 9mm wasn't exactly cheap but it wasn't at the same price point as 5.56mm is right now. It would be nearly $400 in ammo just do to 5.56 for that class. Shooting 9mm would be a lot more economical for me. I suppose there's no reason you couldn't shoot that class with a 22LR conversion as long as it cycled reliably.
  21. Yes. They have pretty clear cut statements about what sort of targets may be shot. Paper and clay pigeons. That's it.
  22. I am seriously thinking about going with a 9mm upper when I build my SBR. What do I need to know about mags, magwell, etc? I know you just use your 5.56mm lower, but do you run an adapter block of some sort or what? Thanks.
  23. I am not going to propose another cookout for July. We'll switch back to a local restaurant and let folks recover a little from pitching in on this month's meet and shoot. And thank you for supplying the grill for this weekend's event!
  24. The 12th is bad for me as well. I'd have to sit that weekend out if it becomes the one of choice.
  25. From a search of the thread... no. So I'll pick up cheese slices when we get the burgers and hot dogs tonight at SAMS.
