  1. I was able to spend some time at Owl Hollow with my family this past weekend thanks to HunterH and JasonF who let us attend as their guests. One of these days we'll actually be able to make it to an orientation session and join, but... The Glock runs like a sewing machine with the 15# recoil spring and stainless guide rod installed. Followup shots are much faster and more easily controlled thanks to the lighter spring. It was a worthwhile investment. I also had a chance to replace my old set of Ameriglo Operator sights with a new set of Amerigo "Pro" Operator sights. Same basic design but the rear sight is set back on the slide a little further and uses white outlines around the tritium vials, much the same as Meprolights do. The new sights fixed the problem with point of impact differing from point of aim. All told, I am very happy with the Glock 19 as my carry gun and these little tweaks make it all the better for me.
  2. I'm not the original poster but I have been using Weapon Shield on my firearms for a little over a year now. In fact, I am still working through my free sample bottle. A little of the stuff really goes a long way. I do not use it as a Cleaning agent but it works great as a Lubricant and Protectant (CLP). A needle applicator would be ideal for things like springs, slide rails, etc. It's very, very slick stuff and almost perpetually leaks from the bottle despite having the lid screwed tightly shut. This thread may actually serve as a reminder for me to go ahead and order more. I really can't say anything bad about it but can attest that it works exactly as advertised. One of the better such products available as far as my experience goes.
  3. I've had a few SIGs over the years. Most recently a P220 SAO Carry. SIGs are nice guns. Built like tanks. They carry like tanks too. Sling - That's a beauty. I love the wood grips on it. Very classic.
  4. Comcast, AOL and sometimes Yahoo filter our emails completely. There's little or nothing we can do about it. Sorry.
  5. When I moved here from Kentucky about 11 years ago, I transferred my Kentucky permit and did not have to retake the class. Had new fingerprints and photo made. At that time, you got your fingerprints done via ink pad at the TDOS station, but it has changed now to an electronic format done at Cogent centers. Not nearly as convenient, but oh well.
  6. If real property were only to be interpreted as land, then no one would be able to use a Revocable Trust to purchase NFA items. If you're particularly worried, I'd use something like a rifle or a handgun that you don't mind transferring into the ownership of the trust.
  7. Cool... I'm glad it worked out for you.
  8. You East TN TGO folks should start seeing some familiar faces in the random banner images now.
  9. Glad to hear that you joined. They aren't perfect, but they are the 600lb gorilla when it comes to gun rights lobbying.
  10. http://www.tennesseefirearms.com/misc/book.asp I would recommend that book. But this has me thinking more about putting together a FAQ for TN Gun Laws. Stay tuned!
  11. I took the cheap route and used Quicken Willmaker software to draft my Revocable Trust naming both me and my wife as trustees and naming my children as beneficiaries should something horrible happen to the both of us. In the event that neither of them are 21 years of age, the NFA items go to an executor for safe keeping until they become of legal age. Tennessee does not require that a Revocable Trust be registered with the court. So it is as simple as drafting the papers and signing them in the presence of a notary, then having the notary execute their duties and notarize the documents. Hint: If you use Willmaker, export the document to a Rich Text File (RTF) and then bring it back into MS Word or similar software and edit it so that the name of the trust isn't just "Joe Blow's Revocable Trust" but rather "Joe Blow's NFA Revocable Trust" so that the document has a meaningful name that distinguishes it from any other trusts that you may establish later. I simply searched for every instance of "Joe Blow and Jane Blow's Revocable Trust" in the document and replaced it with the NFA version as described above. In order to activate the trust you should assign a piece of serialized real property to it. Some people take a single dollar bill, note the serial number of that dollar bill in the trust as the real property. Later property assignments are made by amending the document with the appropriate form. I just added an old handgun of no practical value to our trust and established the trust in that fashion. Hope that helps?
  12. The "slide release" is called a slide-lock lever or something similar by most manufacturers. For good reason. We were shown what I think is a better way to reload and rack at the class I took recently. Racking it involves a strong "saddle grip" on the rear of the slide and rolling the weapon about 45º onto it's side so that the ejection port faces downward. It has distinct advantages for Murphy Proofing the process. If that's not what you are after, then the slide-lock release lever is probably sufficient for you.
  13. George Bruch from the Virginia Beach police department responds to Professor James Duane's presentation on why innocent people should never talk to the police. Cliff's notes: Keep your mouth shut. Only speak to your attorney. [ame]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6014022229458915912&q=&hl=en[/ame]
  14. Oh really now? And someone has a birthday coming up don't they?
  15. The reason I like the Vickers Tactical extended mag release is that it is not as long as the Glock extended release and does not jab into you when you're carrying it. You might want to look into that. Also, not a fan of the extended slide release. I tend to release the slide using the slide itself, not the lever. Conversely, if a slide release lever sticks out too far from the frame of the gun, I find that my thumbs will sometimes hit it (thumbs forward grip) and keep the slide from locking back on empty. Not a big deal if you train to not run the magazine dry.
  16. When the video clip starts, the black woman is already screaming at the white guy. It is implied that he said something to her about cutting in line, which set her off.
  17. Merging a few more Heller threads into this one.
  18. You have reason to be proud. Congrats.
  19. From the date stamp on that memo, I see that President Obama left quite a mark on the country.
  20. I picked up some Honey Moon a few weeks ago along with various other beers that they don't sell back home in Kentucky, and took them all with me to leave with my dad so he could try some different things. I sampled the Honey Moon lager and decided that I liked it enough to pick up a 6-pack for myself last night. Had one before bed. Our fridge generally stays well stocked with Yuengling Black & Tan and Yuengling Light Lager but I may pick up some Yazoo Dos Perros to mix up my selection a little. Despite what that makes it sound like, I may have a single beer once a week. If that. It makes me feel pretty sluggish if I drink much of it and my metabolism loves to just store those empty calories away. Now, Jack Daniels on the other hand... I have a hard time saying no to Single Barrel.
  21. The only rules we insist people go by are the ones in our "Code of Conduct". Just a bunch of common sense stuff.
  22. Welcome, Dave. Got any pics of your 1911 you can share? We love some 1911s around here.
  23. It's just indicative of the truth that SCOTUS Justices are appointed by the sitting President at the time. The sitting President almost always (has he ever not?) appoints someone who's beliefs mirror those of his own political party. In other words, it's the Good Ole Boy System at the highest level.
