  1. I mean absolutely no offense to anyone in this thread, but any time I read or hear someone propose (a.) drawing and brandishing to "scare away" the bad guys or (b.) firing a warning or wounding shot first... I am reminded of just how important it is for anyone who carries a handgun for self defense to seek out and obtain good defensive handgun instruction. These two things are huge No-No's. You never draw unless you are committed to shooting your adversary. You never shoot your adversary unless you are ready to shoot him or her completely to the ground. No warning shots. No winging them. You shoot them center of mass and do so as many times as is necessary to completely stop the threat. Any good trainer will instruct you that the threat is not stopped until the assailant(s) is on the ground and no longer posing a threat to you. Please, I implore anyone who does not have absolute clarity on what you may or may not do in a self defense situation... GET FORMAL, PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTION FROM A REPUTABLE TRAINER. I can recommend one such outfit in middle Tennessee based on my personal experiences. There are others that I can recommend but do not have experience with. It really doesn't matter who provides it as long as the training is good, factual and not full of bad or outdated information or silly impractical tactics.
  2. None of my Glock 19's mags make a peep.
  3. I'm not picking on you here but I am using this quote as an example of a trap that I think we allow ourselves to fall into too frequently. Criminals travel to work just the same as you and I travel to work. We absolutely MUST get past the false sense of security that we assign to certain areas just because those areas are predominantly upper class, or predominantly crime free, or predominantly white, or black, or red, or whatever. If you are outside the four walls of your own home, you cannot guarantee what sort of element you are going to interact with. PERIOD. In my past, I have been very guilty of choosing when I would or would not go armed based on what sort of situation I thought I might encounter at whatever place I was going. This sort of thinking will get you hurt or killed. If we all knew when and where we would need our sidearms for self defense, wouldn't we all just avoid being there in the first place??? The fact is you never know. Ever. The wolf prowls seeking those whom he might devour. You do not ever know when or where the wolf will surface. It's your duty to be vigilant and to be armed to protect yourself and those you love. /end rant
  4. Yes, he definitely could have shot any / all of them and it been a justifiable shooting. The guy ended up with a fractured eye socket and multiple head injuries! This was clearly a fear of imminent loss of life or serious injury situation.
  5. Signs never seem to stop the criminals so I have a hard time letting them stop me anymore. What this guy needed was a wife who was carrying also.
  6. These pathetic pieces of **** are everywhere, people. Any one of us could be next... but God willing we and those around us would be armed. http://www.startribune.com/local/25472764.html?location_refer=Homepage:highlightModules:1
  7. I'm moving the off-topic content out of the thread in the Vendor area and setting up a new thread in the lounge...
  8. We need to find a newer production date M&P 40 and see if the magazines have the stamped ribs in them as the mags from my M&P 9L do. It seems that my mags don't rattle at all and I suspect those ribs help stabilize the rounds inside the tube.
  9. I just want to say that Hunter kept me there past dark after everyone else had left and then tried to take advantage of me. Thanks for organizing this for us! It was much more convenient than a Monday morning orientation setting would have been.
  10. You like to get "user friendly" with your "joystick" don't you?
  11. What I want to know is... who here ever had a Timex Sinclair? If you had one of those, chances are you still haven't had sex.
  12. Since we're doing some geek dick measuring... My first computer at home was a C=64. I had the 1541 360K floppy drive, a cassette drive and a SpeedLoad cartridge. The whole thing hooked up to an old color TV. Later I progressed to a C=128 with a 1571 720K floppy drive, an 1851 1.2MB floppy drive and the same old SpeedLoad cartridge but with an actual RGB computer monitor. My first modem was 300 baud VicModem. I eventually moved up to a 1200 baud VicModem. I ran a BBS on that setup at night (my mom and dad hated my ass for that) using BlueBoard software. I kept running BBS's even after I switched over to the IBM PC platform, for a long time using GAP BBS software, then eventually moving to Wildcat for a time (blegh) and ultimately running Renegade before I finally quit playing with dialup and started farting around on the Internet. Getting back into the forum thing with vBulletin back about 6 years ago was kind of like coming full circle. The one cosmic truth about all of this is that ever since people have been able to get "online" and participate in "boards" in some fashion or another, there have always been e-Thugs causing everyone else grief.

    Miss me?

My wife is an RN and works regularly with LPNs. As db said, you don't want to stop there. If you can swing it, push forward even further and get your NP (nurse practicioner) or CRNA (nurse anesthetist). More money, more money, more money. You know what registered nurses, LPNs and EMTs all have in common? They all wanted to be nurses. Some just didn't make it.
  14. Progress to date... Lower is being sent to Spike's today for engraving Paperwork is being sent tomorrow to the BATFE All lower receiver parts ordered or present and accounted for LaRue rail ordered and in transit Items remaining... LMT 10.5" Upper receiver BMC auto bolt carrier group PRI charging handle EOTech optics Anticipate being able to cross the bolt carrier group and charging handle off of the list at the end of this month. The upper receiver will have to wait until the middle of August ... but I'll still be waiting on the BATFE tax stamp to come back anyway so there's no actual rush on any of this. The optics will be ordered subsequent to the rifle being completed. Again, no real rush on that either.
  15. You can assign keystrokes to any of the buttons using the SetPoint software.
  16. I had a Razer Boomslang back in the day. It was a cool piece of gear. But... I'm not much on gaming anymore so a little bit of lag doesn't bother me.
  17. I already have a 10/22 that we're in the process of tricking out. The purpose here is to have an AR platform rifle that she can enjoy just because. And swapping out another caliber upper later is always a plus.
  18. I have a little Logitech bluetooth travel mouse for my laptop and its performance is sketchy to say the least. This MX Revolution is absolutely nothing like it, in a very good way. It does look like a Braun shaver when it's sitting in the charging cradle!
  19. Too bad your last name isn't Naifeh. You'd have it by now.
  20. It takes a lot to make me want to talk shop about computer gear anymore, but this one has to be mentioned. Last week one of our graphics artists (at work) had their Mac's mouse croak on them, so I gave them my Logitech MX510 mouse and took their mostly dead mouse and made do with it for a few days until a replacement arrived. I tend to use my laptop at work more than my desktop anyway, so it wasn't a big deal. Yesterday the replacement arrived and I think I'll be keeping it at my desk instead of forwarding it to the user. They have a nice MX510 now. The replacement is a Logitech MX Revolution cordless mouse and this thing freaking rocks. It uses a docking station to charge itself up and the LiION battery lasts for about 15 days of average use according to the manual and the power meter software. The wireless receiver is a little USB dongle that I have plugged into a USB port on the back side of my Dell 24" widescreen LCD. Yeah, life at work is rough. The mouse has a very nice heft to it thanks to the battery. I love the added weight. It feels like you're moving something sturdy and precise around on the desktop rather than just gripping a light, flimsy piece of plastic. It's got a myriad of programmable buttons for page movement, application control, etc. Four way scroll wheel as a middle button, and a two-way scroll wheel at your thumb. I'm already seeing a lot of uses for the additional scroller. Nice! At $70-90 depending on where you shop, it's not a cheap item. But it's worth the money from what I have experienced so far. I'll probably pick one up for the desktop computer at home too.
  21. Verbal is joking, albeit it's not funny to anyone who wasn't aware of what was going on out of the public eye ... more or less. I would say that 99% of the people who patronize Rabbi's store will be 100% oblivious to and not really care to hear about the problems that we've had with him here as a Vendor and member of TGO. A thread has been posted about it on our Feedback and Support forum. If you've had enjoyable transactions with him, then that's really all that likely matters to you as a consumer.
  22. We have refrained from associating with any one "fraternal" organization and will continue to do so. As has been suggested, you can always add an NRA item to your signature line if you feel inclined.
  23. Very nice. How's the recoil feel in the sub-compact?
  24. Buffer retainer and retainer spring. http://www.midwayusa.com/ebrowse.exe/resources?tabid=9&page=schematics/ar15.htm
  25. I wouldn't bother with the one that allows you to swivel it then.
